This thread seems to cover everything on our minds right now, though frustratingly little about <12 crowd. From jaygee 's Bob: *this also came out before the WHO announcement. Curious how that will change course. But getting more people vaxxed does seem to be more effective than boosters... A spiral of frustration.

byjove, I was reading Ellie Murray's thread this morning, which he referenced. Really math heavy, but very interesting. I laughed at, "when in doubt, spreadsheet it out". I think the big take away is in his last few tweets - weigh the risks, but self-imposed restrictions to protect yourself/family. I hate that the burden is on the responsible folks. Sigh.

Are you kidding me?? Now what is the recourse here? Can he rescind it? I hate this. Was it an executive order? Could he make an executive order allowing them? Ugh what a nightmare these assholes have caused. It was a bill (act? proposal?) put forth/passed by the state legislature and then he signed it into law. One article I read said that if he hadn't, the legislature had enough in support of it to override his veto so I'm not sure asking the legislature to amend it is going to do any good. ETA: This article has the quote, though I'm not sure it was the one I originally read: www.newsweek.com/arkansas-governor-hutchinson-regrets-signing-mask-ban-law-state-sees-delta-surge-1615904

I don't think he has the power to rescind it now that it's been passed, signed and effected. It would have to be amended (by the legislature?) or ruled unconstitutional by the courts. Incredible what might have happened if you'd listened to science in the first place, Asa. These red state governors suddenly reaching the "find out" part

This thread and Dr. Ellieās threads are so helpful in understanding the problem at a regional, national, and global level. Right now, at the individual level, so much seems to come down to protecting yourself and your family by masking and socially distancing once regional risk reaches a certain level. I have to admit that Iām having major second thoughts about in-person school/preschool this fall, especially for DD (high risk, 4yo). I need to talk to her pediatrician and cardiologist when we get home from vacation to revisit our decisions. But she needs preschool so badly.

Ours was an EO which seems easier to overturn. Not that I think he will admit heās wrong and do anything about it.

We have no virtual option here, so it would have to be homeschooling for Kindergarten and there is just no feasible way that would work for our kid, especially with his IEP that will help him so much in K with his attention issues. It sucks because I am terrified but I also just have to somewhat release it and let it be what is going to be.

We technically have a virtual option, but it's not tied to the local curriculum and on top of that, we have a dual language school so mimicking that would be really tough. School starts in 2.5 weeks and at this point I'm like I guess we'll start and see how it goes?

WHO is calling for a moratorium on booster shots, citing global vaccine disparity. āWe cannot and should not accept countries that have already used most of the global supply of vaccines using even more of it while the worldās most vulnerable people remain unprotected,ā WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a Wednesday news conference, as the health organization aims for 10 percent vaccination coverage in every country within the next two months. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/08/04/coronavirus-covid-live-updates-us/I kind of agree with this. WE should be exporting more vaccines to disadvantaged areas. The fact that we have states with tens of thousands of vaccine doses about to expireā¦ while there are countries with a 2% vaccination rateā¦ yeah, we donāt get to hoard shit weāre not going to use and other countries desperately need. Thatās just evil.

I regret not partnering up more with the other moms we are close to this last year. We see four kiddos and their moms for park play dates individually and two are also only children.
They have all opened up about how hard it was for them even though before Covid they were Sahm or worked part time.
I need to come up with a game plan or ideas just in case so we can all better support each other.
Are any of you thinking of working with other families this school year?

Yea, and I feel like people that are vaccinated (barring compromised immune systems) really wouldn't need a booster if more of the population were vaccinated. The rest of the world shouldn't suffer from lack of vaccine because so many Americans don't give a shit about anyone else.

The Target employee who brought out my drive up order today was double masked. I've been trying to decide whether my kids would double mask correctly if I taught them how. I know they would do their best but they're kids.

From what I've read, boosters in the US would be prioritized toward those with the known highest risks - over 65, autoimmune issues, serious underlying conditions, if we move to boosters. Israel is currently targeting boosters for the elderly and immunocompromised.

Hopefully it would work better this time around.

Booster shots are extra credit work to try and off set the grade drop from the group project This is a perfect analogy.

If I lost a family member to covid - I would demand it be on the death certificate. I donāt think thatās a thing you can do, but I would try.
And then Iād probably but a post it on my own copy that said āmurdered by the GOPā.
