I’m already used to hearing Serena Joy from Handmade’s Tale so Serena with any 1-syllable J middle name like Serena June sounds very wearable to me. It was never high on the SSA charts so it’s not a name you can peg to any particular decade. It peaked in popularity in 2000 but not significantly over other years. Yes, I’m a name nerd. I was sitting on my hands to not mention the handmade’s tale Serena as that’s a negative association for me. But I love the name and no one will remember that!! I personally wouldn’t skip a name I loved over a pop culture reference- most won’t stand the test of time. I’m guessing in 10 years no one will remember June and Serena were two main characters. Serena Williams probably has more staying power but she’s a much more positive association. I also think of Serena from Gossip Girl. I found out after we named my son that his two middle names together were the name of a superhero’s sidekick which I didn’t know. They are my grandfather’s name plus the name his birth mom chose for him so it was a pure coincidence but it does come up sometimes. You just never know!

One of my kids has the exact same full name as a well-known flawed tv character. We knew that going in. People comment on it here and there but it’s never been a big deal in the slightest!

Serena reminds me of General Hospital because I’m old.

Re: pop culture references, both of my girls have horror movie doll names, both came out the year they were born. I hadn’t heard of the second one till my friend told me. 😅

About 13 years ago I told my friend not to worry about naming her kid the same name as that popular at the time boy band (Nick, Joe, etc). I said no way would anyone remember them when he was older. Boy was I wrong. Like cockroaches those guys.

I am liking Serena more and more. But I don’t know. Not a beer name. A bmb friend has this name and I have had beers with her, would have all the beers with her, and she’s the queen of beer pong.

I’ve loved the name Serena so long that I named my bunny Serena when I was 10. Was very bummed when the vet informed us he was actually a boy bunny.

I’ll have to use my girl list on pets, since I’m 100% done after two boys, but I still love them.
Mairead Cornelia Saoirse Oona Georgiana Wren
Sigh, still have the baby name Google doc.

I’m not sold on it. There’s a name out there for me. I know it. I always liked Amelia (my name) Anacelia (although MIL's name was with a y in there) My mom thought I should use Evelyn Velma Oleta and I probably should have had a Jessie, Jesse, Jessye cause there are sooooo many of them in both sides of family, male and female. but I never had a girl so I never used a girl name Well my girl animals have been DeeDee, Bear, Velvet, Midnight, Petal Paws and Fat cat so eh, those names will probably not help. lol

Obligatory - mary, merry and marry are all different pronunciations. Marigold! I love that name, too. I’d probably shorten it to Goldie. Rosalie shortened to Rosie is also a favorite. Last one is my daughter’s name. I thought we’d call her Rosie and we don’t really, though other people do. We call her a mix of Rose, Rosa, Ro-Ro, and her full name.

The girl names most close to my heart *wink wink* Heidi (for a while we tried out Deedee as a nn) Thea (leaned heavily towards Theodora for the formal name but decided against in the end)
We also have an Aubrey and an Alexandra nn Allie in the fam and a Lilith nn Lily
