I’m still masked in public 99% of the time. H wears his less. We have still been taking the kids in places because they both wear masks without question and our #’s are very low. I do track the #’s though so I know when we need to rethink our process.

H and I went to the mall and a few other stores today. Almost all employees that we saw had masks on. I was surprised at the number of young kids (too young to get vaccinated, but old enough to wear a mask) without masks on. And usually if the kids were wearing one, so were the parents. Every time I see a parent and children wearing masks now, I just think, "my people". Agreed. If a kid isn’t wearing a mask I steer very clear of them bc I don’t trust their parents to be vaxed. I know it’s possible but after people getting infected with different strains and struggling to recover more so the second time around, I refuse to let my kid around unmasked strangers.

I wish we had your masking laws blurnette989 with our vaccine availability. I am fully vaxxed and still wear my mask just about everywhere. God the anxiety I feel inside thinking of not wearing a mask to a store…. Ooof. Good news! Covid negative. Couldn’t get tested for the flu but I feel my normal level of exhaustion. But did you know that apparently most flu infections are asymptomatic??? Sigh. I think we’ve contained the outbreak on my unit and I think only one CWer is out sick from the flu and she took care of all the sick babies. Poor thing. Oh wow, I never would have thought about asymptomatic flu cases. Damn. I mean not damn to not have symptoms, but having it and not knowing so it gets spread 😬 yikes It’s so bizarre. I was like well no ones out sick so one of the parents must have brought in the flu and DH pulls up the stats of asymptomatic flu cases and I about fell over. Esp since dh is now of the mindset (or was pre delta variant) that we should be more concerned of the flu than Covid for DS, then I was like YOU TOLD ME TO BE MORE WORRIED ABOUT THE FLU THAN COVID AND NOW I HAVE BOTH TO WORRY ABOUT!!!!! Let’s just say I’ve had a daily Xanax these last several days

clucky , I know paralyzing sounds scary, but DH was given meds for that a couple of times while on a vent after his SCA. I gather it's a pretty standard protocol, even if it sounds scary, if that sounds helpful. He had terrible pneumonia from his resuscitation. Sending healing vibes his way.

FDA to attach warning to J&J vaccine. Excerpt: The Food and Drug Administration is planning to warn that Johnson & Johnson’s coronavirus vaccine can lead to an increased risk of a rare neurological condition known as Guillain–Barré syndrome, another setback for a vaccine that has largely been sidelined in the United States because of manufacturing problems and a temporary safety pause earlier this year, according to several people familiar with the plans. link

greykitty given my past with GBS I’m honestly not surprised and why there’s actually a disclaimer on the CDC sight that those with GBS history should only get the mRNA vaccines. I know they say it’s rare but it seems to becoming more prevelant and i sometimes wish they would stop treating it as it’s rare and acknowledge that vaccines can cause this.

byjove that is very helpful to know. My cousins aren’t saying anything to anyone past immediate family and possibly close friends, so I don’t want to step on toes or ask too many questions. sweetpea hoping for a negative.

sweetpea, I had a crazy awful sore throat this weekend, followed by a full on sinus blowout. I tested negative for COVID, strep and flu. Just a nasty cold. Hope it’s the same for your kid. And this was my very first COVID test . I made it all this way without any symptoms or exposures.

My freshman college roommate has gone off the conservative deep end. She reposted something from a local politician with the hashtag “let them breathe” (against the CA rule that kids have to mask in school) that includes the sentence “kids aren’t affected by Covid.”
I just. How do people still believe this, at this point? I think I’m going to have to unfriend her. I posted a respectful reply with links to statistics and info from AAP and John’s Hopkins, but if it goes sideways, oh well.

Ugh we have the youngest at home because we are awaiting the results of covid test. She says her throat hurts but strep test just came back negative. 😬😷 Ugh, I’m sorry. It’s definitely possible it isn’t covid! My whole family got an annoying cold a couple weeks ago, and of course, mine is lingering. But we have been tested and all negative for COVID. Just congestion and a bit of a sore throat.

I struggled last night talking with my mom and H about the j&j warning. There’s definitely trauma around vaccines for me. When my parents and I look back I definitely had GBS reactions even a young child (like my K shots). But when I got it as a teenager basically my neuro who figured it out was like they aren’t going to admit it’s vaccine related even though a lot of studies had been done in GBS patients showing they had gotten a vaccine recently. So I struggle with the support of science but the reality that it’s not 100% safe for everyone and I get why people are hesitant. It’s had a lifelong impact on my life (when I was having the boys a huge thing for us was that I not get an epidural because I never wanted to feel numb again in my legs)

I will admit, we've gotten lax about our kids being masked in some places. They had covid so we know they have some level of immunity. But we were talking yesterday about delta and about going back to masking all the time. Our cases here are low and our vax rates are high (we're both fully vaxxed), but delta is making us both nervous. I can't wait until my kids can get vaccinated. Honestly, I would. There seem to be concerns about the durability of antibodies from prior infection.
