clucky, I'm hoping your uncle gets better soon. sweetpea, something similar happened to DH. It wasn't COVID, but a random virus. Hopefully it's the same at your house. dc2london, I know there's a lot of hope and plenty of predictions that this has reshaped work. I'm just not as optimistic. Certainly for some, it will. But like you said, the sudden reversal doesn't inspire confidence.

Angry this morning. Our local educational advocacy group (a community group to advocate for our schools), created a petition to advocate for masking for kids ineligible for vaccination based on CDC/AAP recommendations. Well someone shared a FB post about it to a NJ antimask/antivax/conspiracy theory group and they started trolling us so that we had to shut down comments on the post. Since their FB group is public I was able to view the posts on there and it is truly insane. (Among their "issues" from scrolling through the group - antimask, antivax, anti-"CRT", and anti-"social-emotional-learning".) They are also working with republican government officials to run for BOEs in the state *shudder*.
I'm ragey that these folks railing about "personal choice" and "government overreach", who don't even live here, had the gall to come over to OUR community Facebook page and try to tell us how we should run OUR schools. (I checked the membership of the group and only one person was listed as living in our town.)
Our town is accepting email comments for our upcoming BOE meeting and I only hope these crazies don't try to send emails there too acting like residents.

kbw that would absolutely be terrifying and traumatic. My memory isn’t awesome, but the mRNA haven’t seen GBS as a side effect, correct?

geekygirly at each of our school board meetings recently, the public comments are all from the anti-mask group and they also set up a protest outside. I am blown away by what they say and believe, I can't imagine reading through their FB group. That is terrifying about the school board elections as we have several seats up this year. My district representative is the only anti-masker on our board and I didn't vote for her last year. She is tough to hear in the meetings. I just hope our schools continue to mask for kids, it is tough feeling uncertain about the school year again.

Our school board election this year was super controversial and nasty too, and apparently largely influenced by a national conservative group. Thankfully, enough reasonable people came out to vote for sane and reasonable people.

But l will tell you I nearly backed out more than once. Guessing the reason I had heard of the GBS J&J prior to this was from you in here. When they announced it, I thought that this had already been done. They really did miss the important messaging of how mRNA is different and why it works. I’m fairly certain had messaging been better in all places, my uncle would have gotten it. He trusts his family, but with his reactions from traditional vaccines, he wasn’t convinced. And why everyone else should be getting them, to protect the vulnerable. I’m sorry that more people weren’t less anti-vax to give more time for research to make you more comfortable. Now I’m rambling. 😕

One of her friends posted this: “The CDC said they were wrong about the masks, making people wear them has only kept people from building immunities from germs and now they're expecting a huge flu season because of it.”
I mean… what? Where do they get this shit? I asked for a citation. 🤷♀️

Omfgggggg thatgolfb I would explode. I just can’t with these people. Of course her similarly minded friends have supported her statement. I’m not surprised. But some of it is just so out of left field that they can’t be reasoned with.

I mean yes, I would anticipate a higher flu season next go-round because people will not be quarantining like they were this past flu season, and not wearing as many masks. That has nothing to do with the CDC lying, or people not building immunities. It's because masks and staying away from people fucking works at not spreading germs and getting you sick, and when you stop doing those things, guess what? You get sick. The problem is, they (meaning the people like thatgolfb's former roommate & friends) will see flu numbers uptick and use that as evidence they were correct.

Although, I think it’s easy to refute that by saying exactly what you said. We can’t compare to last year. We should be competing to… well, really any other year.
