We are about to head home from the outerbanks and there are no masks anywhere- like at all. Fortunately my kids don’t really have to be inside anywhere, but we are all wearing them whenever we do. At least no one is giving me grief about it. I took an outside yoga class where you had to register in a hotel lobby and I was really shocked I was the only person in the busy place with one on. I know there are a lot of NOVA folks here… so find this a bit surprising.

MH's best friend's mom is on a girls trip to Belize and keeps posting pictures of themselves in the airport and on the plane with their masks off. Driving me fucking nuts.

I’m so sorry for everyone dealing with shit. School shit, family being sick shit, work being assholes shit. One, possibly two of our vaccinated docs on my unit got covid. I need to get tested tomorrow. We also have a fucking flu outbreak on my unit. We have no idea where it came from but we have several babies that all have influenza. I’m a walking stressball. I’m so worried I got covid and will pass it to DS or my parents (who are visiting), or even the flu. Ughhh Big six foot hugs. I'm sorry you're so stressed. |

RSV cases are abnormally high for this time of year, but flu has remained zero. I hope your outbreak is quickly contained and you get a negative test. |

I saw Black Widow at a matinee yesterday. Theater was about half full at noon (of course there are multiple showings at all the theaters in the area - I picked a slightly less popular theater).
Servers at this meal + movie show were all masked. Little kids were basically masked. PG13 movie but there were a number of family groups at this showing. But kids were also eating popcorn etc and took off masks then. Adults maybe 90% unmasked. We have a pretty high vaccination pick up in our area.

I went to the grocery store today. Very low mask wearing, among employees and patrons alike. Ah well. Back to feeling like a total weirdo I guess. At least I’m used to it.

Ooooo they've just changed the law that you can only eat indoors at restaurants if you are fully vaxxed. Thankfully most places i eat have outdoor seating, but that's a new restriction.
Kids with a fully vaxxed adult can eat indoors.

I wish we had your masking laws blurnette989 with our vaccine availability. I am fully vaxxed and still wear my mask just about everywhere. God the anxiety I feel inside thinking of not wearing a mask to a store…. Ooof. Good news! Covid negative. Couldn’t get tested for the flu but I feel my normal level of exhaustion. But did you know that apparently most flu infections are asymptomatic??? Sigh. I think we’ve contained the outbreak on my unit and I think only one CWer is out sick from the flu and she took care of all the sick babies. Poor thing. |

All of my coworkers and I at my store are still wearing our masks bu choice, and we are all fully vaxxed. We say that's how you can tell if a parent with their kids is vaxxed or not: if the kid is wearing a mask, then we figure the parent is vaxxed, whether they are wearing a mask or not. Every time I see a parent and children wearing masks now, I just think, "my people". |

I will admit, we've gotten lax about our kids being masked in some places. They had covid so we know they have some level of immunity. But we were talking yesterday about delta and about going back to masking all the time. Our cases here are low and our vax rates are high (we're both fully vaxxed), but delta is making us both nervous. I can't wait until my kids can get vaccinated.

I thought I was feeling pretty good about Covid but then we traveled this weekend. Short little trip from Houston to Dallas but the restroom breaks at Bucee’s in small town Tx about gave me a heart attack. So many people crammed inside and so much coughing. I haven’t been wearing a mask in many places but definitely did there. My retail days of being able to quickly maneuver through a crowd came in handy. At least we felt fine in Dallas with our friends.
Because of this we canceled our big summer trip. I’m really sad about it but I know it’s the right call. Maybe next summer?
On another note I follow Your Local Epidemiologist on FB and she made a comment that Pfizer is skipping EUA for kids under 12 and going for full approval. Expected to be late fall. This is the first I’ve heard of that and can’t find anything about it. Does anyone know?

abs, I’m sorry you had to cancel your vacation. We’ve stopped bringing the kids to most indoor public spaces (i.e. groceries and other errands) if we can avoid it because of Delta. And we’re all masked any time we’re inside in a public space. It’s so easy for everyone in my family to just toss on masks in those situations. I’m a fan of Swiss cheese risk mitigation and any discomfort is well worth the extra layer of protection and peace of mind for us. I just wish everyone would at least mask up if not vaccinated. I have a lot of compassion for the mask hesitant who are just looking for more assurance, but the anti-mask and anti-vax contingent make me so mad.

I have been more lax with myself lately too because I only go to a couple indoor stores and the numbers in my county are low which is impressive given how large of a metro area we are. I do mask up with my son if I bring him somewhere, in solidarity. Delta makes me nervous for him but I have admittedly liked not worrying about making sure I have a clean mask for quick errands. |
