Anyone seen guidance on the "high transmission area" terminology? Yes. Basically everywhere. That's what I figured.

I think in this space, where most of us have been vaccinated and have been taking this virus seriously, it's OK to vent about situations where you need to mask again where it's unpleasant. Personally, I'm not interested in judging or pain Olympics trolling anyone for saying, "It was nice to not have to wear a mask for 2 hours in the salon and now I have to" or whatever. IMO if you've done what was advised this while time, you get to feel upset or petty or irritated. That's just my opinion and I'm only one person. If that's how my post read, I sincerely apologize. That was not my intent at all. I absolutely think people are going to mourn the freedoms we've lost. I was speaking from a risk perspective.

Here's the thing about schools and no mask policies. It is going to spread through students and staff, apparently even ones who are vaccinated, like wildfire. They are shooting themselves in the foot because I don't know who is going to teach kids when no one can find large numbers of subs. And I know it's regional, but do not for a second assume that many teachers are vaccinated. I'm afraid this is going to be a very bumpy first half of the school year in a lot of places. I don't think we're done with remote learning yet ☹. Me either. And if I'm honest, I think it would be the most prudent thing to do while we figure out the impact of the Delta variant. Ugh, I hate this so much.

Our school district, playing politics as usual, rushed to put out a statement ahead of the CDC guidance. The superintendent released a really long, poorly worded email yesterday stating that we’ll be in-person with no virtual option and masks recommended but not required for unvaccinated. Then he made each building’s principal release an email today echoing his words. I responded asking to meet with my rising 3rd grader’s principal about options as we are not comfortable sending him in this environment. We’ll see what she says. In the meantime the CDC guidance came out and Pete Ricketts released this gem: governor.nebraska.gov/press/gov-ricketts-nebraska’s-return-normal-won’t-be-interrupted-new-cdc-guidance

I haven't seen anything like that, to be clear, I just would hate for people to feel like they can't vent here because "that's what the CDC said, get over it" or any such thing But at the same time... Of all the things to moan about right now? I still have to mask outdoors. I still regularly have panic attacks in my mask. I do want most people to just get over it. Wear a mask even if it is just for gd virtue signaling.

While parents are near panic attacks because they have to send their kids to school soon. While immunocompromised people have been on lockdown since the CDC said no masks for vaxxed people. Like, feel your feelings, sure. Then widen your perspective and maybe the sting will ease up. 🤷🏼♀️

But I do agree with dc2london that shaming thoughtful people in this thread is not helpful. I am trying to continue to extend grace to everyone as this continues to be a super frustrating and scary situation.

I'm sorry, nelzie. Far too many governors are more worried about pissing of their base than they are about the health of their constituents and that's so cowardly and vile.

Anyone else a stress shopper? This pandemic has made me one and I keep buying and selling crap on the internet. I need to get it under control before the new IRS reporting thresholds for Paypal/ebay take effect in Jan ($600 in "sales" threshold nationally vs $20k, some states were already $600) Do not need another thing to keep track of on my plate 🙋🏼♀️ I just sold so much stuff on FB marketplace these last few weeks. Now I’m fighting the urge to buy more things I don’t need. I’ve started making random donations instead of shopping when the urge strikes. Reorganizing and redecorating help too.

I feel very fortunate that our district announced 900 out of 1100 staff and teachers got vaxxed when they held a clinic, but they already have job postings for subs in all positions so they have to know it won't be good. Why won't they be responsible and require masks? Unfortunately I think it's going to take a large amount of serious illnesses or death for the schools to take it serious, and unfortunately probably on the local level

I have reorganization plans and I end up getting overwhelmed and giving up. I've made progress but I'm in that "stuck in the middle" phase in a few areas. I need to make myself a schedule and stick with it I sell a bunch of baby stuff at the beginning of the pandemic, mostly cloth diapers, and made quite a bit of $$. I need to pick that momentum back up ETA: I've done some donating too, I just made a donation to our local PBS this week for their annual fundraiser, but it's not helping my shopping urge 😬

Biden to announce Federal employee vaccination/testing mandate ...(CNN)President Joe Biden will announce on Thursday a requirement that all federal employees and contractors be vaccinated against Covid-19, or be required to submit to regular testing and mitigation requirements, according to a source with direct knowledge of the matter. The announcement will come in remarks where Biden is also expected to lay out a series of new steps, including incentives, in an attempt to spur new vaccinations as the Delta variant spreads rapidly throughout the country. It will also follow the decision by the Department of Veterans Affairs to require its frontline health care workers to be vaccinated over the course of the next two months.... www.cnn.com/2021/07/27/politics/vaccine-mandate-for-federal-employees-under-consideration/index.html

I have a relevant anecdote. We found out this weekend that our bubble family is not vaccinated. Really that just means the mom is not (she’s a single mom, daughter is too young). Soooo that was a surprise. But! The reason we found out is because she told me she’s finally going to get her shot, because Delta scares her and she now knows lots of people who’ve gotten the shot and have been fine. She was just hesitant, and is seeing the hospitalizations rise among unvaccinated. So there are people out there who can still be persuaded, or mandated if it’s tied to a job or other benefits, I guess. Anyway. Trying to put a positive spin on that revelation. 😬

My ILs just visited for the 2nd time since the pandemic started (1st was about a month and a half ago) and we know with school starting soon it'll likely be a while before we see them again. If the kids are back in school it just seems too risky. I know DD and DS2 will be super disappointed, they've really loved seeing someone other than their parents. I'm sorry, it's so unfair. I'm wondering if my ILs, who are retired and very careful, will want to do the same. Unfortunately it's more us than the ILs. They have made riskier choices in terms of going out to stores, etc. MIL frequently wears a face shield instead of a mask because she decided it's safer 🙄 She's also historically faked medical issues for attention, so it's a whole thing and I don't want to be responsible for it. We obviously want them to be safe and healthy and to us part of that is not exposing them to our kids if they could be a risk

I am trying to continue to extend grace to everyone as this continues to be a super frustrating and scary situation. Thank you, this is really what I meant. I think people here have tried to be pretty thoughtful about how their choices affect the pandemic situation and at least tried to be good global citizens. There are plenty of people who deserve our ire, I was only saying I empathize with people having done the right thing consistently and feeling fed up with a situation that is outside their control. At the same time, our friends living abroad are completely entitled to tell us to fuck off with our freedoms.

Our state public education department announced Monday that masks required for all in elementary schools and only non-vaccinated in middle school or high school.
I have a 1st grader so good news for us. Seems like the 11 year old 6th graders in middle school were forgotten in this decision.
With the new CDC guidance, I expect they will update to masks for all K-12 at the scheduled press conference tomorrow or sooner. We have a democratic governor that follows the guidance.
I highly recommend the Happy Masks, thank you for who originally recommended them. Great fit on my 6 year old and he likes wearing them.

I'm loving that the federal workforce is going to include contractors. As a former contractor, that is a lot of people and will have a wide ripple effect for companies. I get that the other option is regular testing and masking, but that is a PITA and people may get the shot to avoid that. They should make them pay for their own tests too!

It’s honestly our fault for not asking her directly. We assumed, and that was a mistake. This is the only family we’re bubbled with and they do take slightly more risks than we do, but are still careful. We’ve taken breaks from seeing them when there were rises in cases locally, but generally try to prioritize play date swaps for DS’s mental health. So yeah. It is concerning but I’ll just have to be a little more nosey going forward. She hasn’t minded at all when I’ve asked questions before and we’ve usually been on the same page. I guess I got too comfortable.

tallb I’m very happy the mandate includes contractors! It makes sense if they want them to work on site at all again. Will be curious to see how it affects my H’s team

If both FTEs and contractors have mandate, vaccination rates in this area will be super high . As a parent of 3 kids too young to be eligible, I love it.

I assume the mandate will be an executive order, so it will be interesting to see how it's written. It feels likely to apply mostly to contractors reporting on site. But we'll see.

But we will have to cut back on that if/when everyone’s kids are in different schools potentially unmasked. 😏
