We're still planning on traveling to the US in 3 weeks and I'm so stressed about it. Is it the right thing to do? Should I just go alone? How can I keep the DDs safe on the 23hr trips? How can we safely see relatives who will have to travel to see us? I've got a massive headache today from clenching my jaw over all this stress 😫 Hugs. I get this stress. We booked a flight for November and I'm just so uncertain about it and it's still months away. Is your US family generally vaxxed? Nearly all the ones I want to see, yes, but I'm more worried about layovers and traveling, I think.

Oh my gosh, my heart sank to read how you are struggling, lemondrop. You are such a valued member here (outside of your vaccine knowledge of course, though that has also been so helpful for all of our collective psyches too) and on a personal level, I really have enjoyed posting with you and learning from you. I am so sorry that the board has caused you pain and I hope you find time and space to heal. I understand if this is a permanent break but I echo others that I hope some day you might come back if you feel up to it. <3

CDC to announce updated mask guidance, per sources (excerpt) - the UK info is interesting, too, IMIO The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to recommend that people vaccinated for the coronavirus resume wearing masks indoors in certain areas of the country. link

Which is what I've said every time it's brought up that new mask mandates in areas with higher vaccination rates is going to be a hard sell. It's going to be an even harder where vaccination rates are low because those areas are also the ones where masks were barely used in the first place. ETA: Well, my guess is vaccinated people will put masks back on in those areas if they haven't already, but unless the mandates have actual teeth and consequences for not complying, the unvaccinated "let's see those smiles" assholes are going to continue to not, just like they did all along. And yes, I know masking does protect the wearer to the extent that it lessens the viral load, but we all know that's not enough to get this under control. Vaccinated people are not the problem.

I’m wonder if the CDC figures the states that were strict in masking before will just follow suit with the recommendations and won’t spell it out that way.
All I know is the Daily this morning didn’t make me feel great. It sounded like we are seeing a lot more breakthrough infections than expected.

kbw I don't podcast so I don't know what was actually said, but I have wondered about that. I can see one of three possibilities: 1) More than expected thanks to Delta and other variants, 2) Media banging on and on about breakthrough cases for different reasons making it seem higher even though it's not, or 3) More than expected and the media banging on and on.

I am glad the CDC is backtracking in a way. I want DS to be able to go to school in person, so hopefully this will push the district to require masks. But I work in retail, is a state with barely 40% vaccination rate, where my coworkers and I are vaccinated and still wear our masks, but hardly any customers do. We got threatened and argued with during the first mandate, I am worried about what it's going to be like now.

Even in my heavily blue, heavily vaccinated area, there are definitely going to be vaccinated people who will be like NOPE. Granted, I find these people generally don't have young kids, so it's been a different experience for them.

From what I've gathered, it is definitely 1. Delta is a game changer.

Ugh, it's yet another case of the CDC botching up their messaging and walking it back after the damage has already been done.

I think the entire messaging should be - this is the strongest variant we’ve seen yet, we need all mitigation strategies, wear a gosh darn mask you dum dums.
(And now you know why I don’t work in PR/marketing)
