doublestuf I’m really sorry. Child care is so hard as it is, and Covid just makes it all so much harder.

doublestuf I'm sorry. If it makes you feel any better, in TX we have similar vaccination rates, and my DS has been in daycare this whole time. The 5 and up kids had to mask from August 2020 til June 2021 but now don't. Adults mask. There have been 6 or so total cases at his school this whole time, with no spread. None have been in close contact with him. I hope you can find a sitter but just an anecdote from being in a daycare center this whole time.

doublestuf, <3 I feel like the pandemic has really driven home how much the politics of your state matters. Like literally life and death.

I saw India is estimated to have 4 million excess deaths from covid. It's incomprehensible.

Well, that lasted all of a week? School board caved to pressure, citing low cases and low transmission, and now says masks will be optional.
Spineless cowards.

Archdiocese of Chicago schools will not require masks for vaccinated students. To be fair, many of the non-public schools in Chicago and suburbs were more in school and less masking than the public schools, and there did not appear to be much of a reported adverse effect on the students. And, there's no denying that many people truly feel being in person in school is beneficial to students academically, socially, and mentally. linkexcerpt ... According to a letter sent to Chicago Archdiocese families, school masses and all extracurricular activities, athletics and field trips will resume in the upcoming year, as well as before and after-care programs. There will no longer be cohorts, the archdiocese said, though classrooms will use a seating chart that provides the ability to quarantine should a student be exposed to COVID-19. Students who have been vaccinated will not have to wear a face covering, the letter said, but guidance for unvaccinated individuals will be released in early August. Classrooms and activities will be arranged to maintain three feet of distance while indoors, where possible, according to the letter. Students who experience COVID-like symptoms will be required to stay home from school.

Listening to the Senate HELP hearing and I think Richard Burr just told Dr Walensky that kids should be wearing masks in schools Our county can release its mitigation strategies any day now. Mh took M over to a rising kinder playdate last night and they immediately left. He said there were ~60 people on the school's smaller playground and almost no one wearing masks. Outdoors, etc., I guess? But if my "Chill, I'm sure it's fine." H isn't comfortable... I trust his instincts. His preschool just announced a K class, with small class sizes and masks required.

I'm panicking a bit. DS just turned 3, and hasn't been in daycare since March 2020. It closed for a while, and then we decided to find a sitter for him once we went back to school in August. She was wonderful, but she had her 3rd LO a few months ago and her husband has to start traveling for work again very soon, so she doesn't feel like she can do it this year. I have posted in my (large) neighborhood FB group, NextDoor, and care.com and have only had 1 lead (who has since stopped communicating). My big request is that the person is fully vaxxed, and I truly think that is the sticking point. There just aren't that many around us vaccinated. Especially with Delta (and in an area with 40% vaxxed), we don't want him around a bunch of unmasked kids everyday in a larger childcare setting. There are so few kids masked here and walking around stores. As soon as he is fully vaxxed, I will gladly put him back in daycare. We've made it this long, and I just need someone to watch him for a few more months. Ugh. I'm feeling defeated tonight. What about high school or college students at least for the summer to give you a little more time to find someone for the fall until vaccines are available?

Ls2012 that is tough to read, I remember feeling hope when you posted before. Our school board meets tomorrow for a regular meeting but I don't see anything specific to masks on the agenda. I ordered Happy Masks last night to help with all of this uncertainty.

I wish someone on my husband's medical team would be proactive (granted, I don't know if it's a decision that a doctor can make or not) and give him a third shot already. They won't even order an antibody test because they said no one knows what to make of the results right now.

I am feeling defeated. We just got an email from the top boss saying we are returning 100% in person effective Sept 7. I have never expected to WFH 100% of the time forever, because the nature of my job is not that way. But my particular division won't be having in person court until some time next year due to the backlog of other prioritized cases. We have shown that we can work part time from home when we don't have court (or when we do), and nothing is affected. It just seems so soon with the Delta variant coming in strong and no young kids vaccinated yet. Bleh. At least I have a month to prepare myself again.

Senator Marshall thinks 400 dead children is acceptable because they probably had preexisting conditions so uh, if he's your Senator, you might want to call him

greykitty The Arch required universal masking for all students on campuses (PK3-12) this past year. Yeah, there was a lot of disparity in policy and also enforcement between all the various non-public schools in Cook and the collar counties from what I was told, as well as students in their desks at school. It came up a lot at school district meetings since the districts near me were much stricter on their protocols - a lot of 'why aren't we doing what those schools are doing'. Mixed messaging has been the bane of this pandemic, I think.

I'm having an endoscopy Friday at a local in hospital outpatient center. When I was scheduled two months ago, they said I'd have a COVID test 24 hours or so prior to procedure. Apparently three weeks ago they changed protocol and since I'm fully vaccinated (as shown in my medical records), no test needed.
One person can come in with me, and in our state masks are required in medical facilities.

As much as Dr. Fauci has had to appear before congress over the last year, I really feel they should make him his own engraved (embroidered?) nameplate, rather than that folded piece of paper.

Posted on the weekly, but it seems as though they may be realizing that it wasn’t the best strategy. Though I’m still surprised they haven’t pushed calling it the trump-vax (or is it double x?) to keep him relevant. Their long term marketing missed the mark. ETA link 🤦🏻♀️

When it comes to kids or economy, they'll choose economy every time. Such pro life. (Sorry I am trying to make some tough calls about this wedding and am feeling very salty RN.)
