Our local weather guy posted a video about letting a non vaccinated family member come to visit (and they tested right before) and then a day after arriving tested positive for Covid. Then his 5 & 6 year old got it. Then the nanny and some of her family members tested positive. He was talking about the guilt of this happening after they all worked from home, kids did great with masks, they still mask up, etc. Just a nightmare. It’s stories like this that keep me committed though. I will not be made to feel ashamed of wanting to protect my family.

Never mind. GolfB is trying to start a fight for whatever reason, maybe she’s bored. But I’m not going to engage. Peace ✌🏻 You mean oceanblue? Because if reading a different perspective stated respectfully reads as starting a fight, that is a you problem. No. I don’t know if golfb deleted her comment but that’s what ocean was referring to. I’m not going back to look. I have certain people blocked because I do not want to engage with them. I’m open to having respectful dialogue with people who are actually interested in that and not just causing drama. It’s what I have to do to protect my peace, for better or worse. I am sorry if my comment came off as judging people that don’t wear masks. That’s not what I said and honestly I’d hope you all knew that’s not what I meant, but I guess some people read me a certain way. Frankly I don’t like putting my energy into responding to things I didn’t say. 🤷🏼♀️

easier I had to go back and read your comment. While it may not have been your intention I can see why people would take it that if they aren’t masking even while vaccinated they aren’t decent people/ Ok. I acknowledge that I was grumpy and curt and could have given more context for my statement. I am sorry if anyone felt like I was judging them. I was not.

PDQ Uncle update is that his WB cell count is very high. Concerns are high for the next few days. My emotions, mainly internal thoughts, are on a rollercoaster. This thread summed up much of my thoughts. He reads the newspaper, doesn’t spend time watching the tv (not even sure they have cable/dish) and has a flip phone. His vaccine concerns were legitimate, but going to his trusted doctor to have them explain for his personal (past vaccine reactions) concerns weren’t a high priority due to his limited exposure to others.
How do we get to those who are hesitant and not anti-vax? There has to be something.

We opted not to go to one of my cousin's weddings over Memorial Day weekend because we didn't know everyone's vax status and the reception was indoors. A couple of one of my cousin's kids did get covid shortly after, but it was from a different event. (Coincidentally he's also trying to run for Senate and is very pro-vax and pretending to take all the precautions, but that's a whole different rabbit hole)
It really sucks to not be able to participate in the life events of those we love because of other people's selfish choices.

PDQ How do we get to those who are hesitant and not anti-vax? There has to be something. This is a really really good point. I know I’m guilty of “just get vaxed” but I do that with the privilege of having access to information or ways to get information in a way I understand. Not sure what category of privilege that falls into, but I need to realize that and do better. I wish there was more of a push to educate across the nation. Like with the “safe back to sleep” campaign, or the “war on drugs”. Lots of info in your face. It could really help to have that type of info. I know Chicago has decided to close its mass vax site in the city at the United Center and instead funnel that money and effort into more local in the community sites to reach the still unvaccinated peeps.

I don’t think a vaccinated person not masking means they’re not a decent person. An unvaccinated person not masking, yeah, obviously is a jerk. The CDC, which is supposed to be a trusted source for medical information, put out guidance saying you don’t need to wear a mask or follow any kind of guidelines if you’re fully vaccinated. In my opinion their guidance was premature. But if it’s not safe that’s an error on the CDC’s part, not the person whose following what they recommend. I’m still wearing a mask and will continue to do so at least until my kids are vaccinated. Delta and future potential variants plus many stories of vaccinated people getting infected worry me. So to me it’s not worth the risk of skipping a mask. I just don’t like the implication that a vaccinated person not masking automatically means they aren’t a decent person. Yes, exactly.

I’m sick of the “she is just here to cause drama” from you. That’s such bullshit and completely unfair.

I know Chicago has decided to close its mass vax site in the city at the United Center and instead funnel that money and effort into more local in the community sites to reach the still unvaccinated peeps. All of our state run testing sites shut down. One of the news channels did a story asking an older Black woman where she would go. Her reply was “I don’t know” which is absolutely what I was thinking. Those tests should be free, yet so many charge more than those who need to know and have confidence in the result. The story then went on to the local community health site who stated they aren’t changing anything and will be there to continue to serve the community. Even the ability to access and navigate the awful DHHS site is a privilege.

It's really scary to see so many programs and setups to help get people tested rolling back now. This variant is striking people down like flies. Our statewide positive rate was down to under 2% less than a month ago and we're up to 10% now. Hospitalizations going up too.

And I'm sure there are people not getting tested that should, so in reality our positivity would be higher.

They’re still relatively low but quite a rapid increase. I hope we can get a lid on the rise quickly.

And I'm sure there are people not getting tested that should, so in reality our positivity would be higher. I definitely think this is the case. Especially vaccinated people. Like even now when I get a cold, I’m like… well, probably not covid. If I weren’t working, or if I were working from home, I may not think I would have a reason to test. ETA: which applies to now actually, although I am getting a test Wednesday just to have a negative test when I go to the hospital.

So all of the news lately is making us seriously reconsider what's happening with BIL's wedding next month, and are leaning toward leaving N home. We haven't made an official decision, but have reached out to my parents to see if they can come stay with him for a few days. I feel awful - we've only started broaching the subject with H's family, but with cases rising, especially in kids, and not knowing what we'd be bringing him in to...
I need to do some research on vaccinated people transmitting it/delta - if that's also not looking good, I may stay home as well (and have H keep to himself after he gets back).
We were hoping this wouldn't be the case, but here we are. Long sigh.

I know it’s farther away but we’re supposed to go to FL for my dads 80th bday and I am getting anxious about taking DS on a plane. And about my friends 250 person wedding in September.

Also, I had a sore throat for two days and was legit low key panicking that I had covid and was going to get tested if I went past a third day. But I already had covid and am fully vaxxed so in my brain I tell myself the odds are so, so low that I would have it again. Especially now that I'm not working for the summer and we're barely around other people at this point.

I also masked throughout the visitation and funeral just to be on the safe side. Myself and maybe like 5 others were the only ones masked. Everyone I personally know who attended was vaxxed but they were dozens of other people that I didn’t know and I didn’t want to take any chances bringing it home.
