The CDC has messed up the mask messaging from the beginning. Initially it was that nobody needs masks. Then it was that the mask isn’t to protect yourself it’s to protect others from getting germs from you. Now it’s that unvaccinated people need to wear a mask to protect themselves.
They seriously need to work on their messaging. I mean the day they announced the change in mask guidance a bunch of us all over the internet knew it would mean a free for all for unvaccinated people to unmask.

I am just so mad at the first person in this story. I know I'm a bad person for thinking this but it's crazy to me that someone who chose not to get vaccinated gets bumped to the front of the transplant list when they get Covid. If someone is vaccinated, the only time not wearing a mask would make them an asshole/not a decent person is if they're asked to wear one and they don't. IMO.
I'm still masking everywhere even though I don't have to, because it makes me feel better.

Thanks everyone. He’s better this morning. Pediatrician doesn’t want to see him because apparently there’s another virus going around and besides the fever no other Covid symptoms. I’m waiting on daycare and if they require a test.
Of course h and I got into an argument in what we are doing. He’s much more comfortable opening up then I am and for me this was a wake up call but for him he’s like we did our part in getting the vaccine and stuff. I’m so frustrated.

Y'all, fucking covid sucks and we are all stressed and sad and angry still. We know easier isn't calling everyone an asshole. Let's just give grace and save our rage for the bitches and asshats who refuse to do anything to protect our kids.

kbw, glad he's feeling better. And it's certainly easy enough to assume every fever/sneeze/cough is COVID, even though there are plenty of other illnesses out there.

I've been keeping an eye on a NJ antimask/antivax Facebook group (after its members decided to troll a post on our local education association's Facebook about our mask petition, despite not even living here). I saw someone complaining how she isn't allowed to see her grandkids because she refuses to get vaxxed. I just can't imagine being so against a vaccine you would alienate yourself from your own family. The level of misinformation and animosity posted on that group is downright scary. (Apparently their group has been deleted from Facebook 3 times already, but they just keep making backup groups to move to when each one eventually gets shut down.) |

Our superintendent said at his end of school year message in May he couldn't wait to see everyone's smiling faces in the fall and then promptly removed the mask mandates for summer school. I emailed him last week after the CDC said unvaxxed kids should still wear masks and asked what their justification is for not following the guidelines. He gave me a BS answer about how they'll follow governor and local health orders but because fucking Ohio our governor can't make any health orders over 30 days. I'm so mad. There are tons of anti-mask/vax parents too. At the beginning of last year about 1/3 of the kids in the district opted for virtual and that number fell in Jan.
I *want* to put up a fight but I don't know where to start or if I really even have the mental capacity to do it.
When the 3yo saw the pediatrician on the 5th I asked about masks and she didn't seem to think it'd be a big deal, that barely any kids would be wearing them, and it would be fine. I really like her but it honestly has me second guessing her more than my own worries. We're not going to put the 3yo in preK because we're worried and I'm seriously considering keeping the 8yo home too, mostly because I don't trust other people/their kids, she's sensitive, and I can see her taking her mask off if kids are assholes. I'm much less worried about my 17yo because he's vaxxed and I know he'll keep his mask on. I was really hoping we'd have a kid vax before school. We even tried to get into studies (and got a call for the 3yo but didn't respond fast enough and it was full)
To top it off MH will be leaving in a few weeks to work on a PhD, which is great and exciting and a good career move, but also means I'll be solo parenting and it's just...a lot

Apparently my dad was buying into some antivax crap from a coworker but fortunately my mom is/was a health care worker and kicked his ass to an appt. We just saw them for the first time in a year and a half and it definitely wouldn't have happened if they both weren't vaxxed I made everyone get a Tdap when DD was born in 2012 because of whooping cough, so they all knew where I stood on vaxxing too |

Although 10% off food at your local grocers upon full vaccination status confirmation would be appealing to me - my grocery bills have definitely been hit by inflation/supply chain/demand issues.

It’s his only sibling and this baby was very much a baby that he didn’t think would happen (long story but lots of relationship issues and he found a person later in life that he loves and wanted to have a baby with). So he’s hurt. |

Oh man jaygee. It’s rough to have those family members. My sister’s future MIL is refusing to get vaxxed and it is causing a LOT of issues in their family. Her SO has 2 bros and one has a kid. The kid one had been letting her visit outside only with the baby but now has instituted a no vax no visit policy and the gma is livid and beside herself and devastated that THEY are alienating her from her only grandchild. And her reasoning she says is bc she doesn’t trust it bc it’s too new. And she “respects your choice to vaccinate why can’t you respect mine to not? I’m not hurting anyone…..” 🙄 But get this. She owns and runs an in person antique furniture store in Montecito. She interacts with the public EVERY DAY!!! And, her MOTHER got POLIO when she was a little kid so her MOTHER was in a wheelchair pretty much her ENTIRE life. And she is refusing. And she’s a very well educated person. 🤯 My sis told me this bc our parents are going to visit her and she lives in her MIL’s pool house and I was concerned about them interacting with her in her house bc they’re staying in the pool house and my sister and SO will be staying in one of the guest rooms in the main house. I’m so frustrated with that lady and I’ve never even met her. But if things continue this way I don’t think I can bring DS to my sisters wedding in SB in September. I refuse to have him around anyone that I know that is unvaccinated. |

It's about 3 hrs away, so it's drivable to come home some weekends, but I think he's being way too optimistic about coming home frequently (2-3x/month) and it'll more likely be once |

Wow addymac I just can’t with the decision making and priorities people have. So crazy. I’ve had to stop reading the posts on my Nextdoor about the mask guidance. It was making me depressed. But I went to the grocery store today and I would say 80% of people had masks on so I just have to ignore the fools on Nextdoor |

Our local weather guy posted a video about letting a non vaccinated family member come to visit (and they tested right before) and then a day after arriving tested positive for Covid. Then his 5 & 6 year old got it. Then the nanny and some of her family members tested positive.
He was talking about the guilt of this happening after they all worked from home, kids did great with masks, they still mask up, etc.
