Omg I’d be irate if that was me. It makes me even more thankful for our amazing nanny. We actually saw her at target after work today (she works for us Mon-Wed) and I was surprised to see she was still wearing her mask in stores. She’s 23 and healthy so I figured she’d have dropped them a while ago. It confirmed to me that she is perfect for us lol.

One of the Vegas guys that initially tested negative on antigen test just got a positive PCR test, and developed symptoms today.
Ugh.

I can’t even describe how irate I would be about the nanny lying.
People fucking suck.

I can’t believe so many of them tested positive from that trip if they were all vaccinated. That’s scary. I’m so glad your H didn’t end up going with them thatgolfb!

Damn thatgolfb what the heck did they do in Vegas!! My word. I would be LIVIDDD if that happened to my family. I wonder if there’s any legal recourse. Not that it makes things better, but ugh. I would be fucking devastated. I was just talking today to a new IRL mom friend and she was telling me how they had to let their nanny go because she refused to get vaccinated.

The Bay Area health officials are strongly urging mask wearing indoors regardless of vaccination status. My city posted it on nextdoor and the stupid is strong.

Oh my Nextdoor is extra tonight over Covid and masks. Someone tried to claim that mask wearing is dangerous for kids and linked to this study to back up their claims. But notice the big red RETRACTED all throughout the background. 😒🙄

I gave a shamelessly preachy “dooooo itttt for the kids” post. I’m not above guilt tripping at this point.

The CDC said there was no reason to since they were all vaccinated. Fucking sucks. If the asshats of the country had gotten vaccinated I doubt this would be happening. At least not yet.

This Atlantic article gave me as a layperson a little more insight into the scary word 'breakthrough'. excerpt The second thing to know about the COVID-19 vaccines is that they’re flame retardants, not impenetrable firewalls, when it comes to the coronavirus. Some vaccinated people are still getting infected, and a small subset of these individuals is still getting sick—and this is completely expected. We’re really, really bad at communicating that second point, which is all about breakthroughs, a concept that has, not entirely accurately, become synonymous with vaccine failure. It’s a problem that goes far beyond semantics: Bungling the messaging around our shots’ astounding success has made it hard to convey the truly minimal risk that the vaccinated face, and the enormous gamble taken by those who eschew the jabs. linkI do think new mask mandates are going to be a hard sell especially in areas where vaccination uptake has been successful.

I think new mask mandates will be a harder sell in places with bad vaccination rates since the overlap of anti-vaccine and anti-mask people is almost a perfect circle.
ETA: Especially since in a lot of those places, the elected officials share those anti feelings.

Walked into Dunkin' Donuts this morning (crossover motivation thread confession?). Tiny building, packed full, and I was the only one masked. I could see irritation on the faces of people around me that I wouldn't stand closer to those in line in front of me, but I give no cares. There's absolutely no way all those people were vaccinated.
People are just playing roulette with this virus and it is so, soooo unnerving.

I went to our local organic market this morning and everyone was voluntarily wearing a mask. Everyone! And I’d be shocked if we weren’t all vaxed.

I was just thinking people are still spacing out a bit while waiting in line to check out at groceries, drug stores, etc. but mask wearing is now the exception rather than the rule. I'm just getting used going up immediately to the cash register at Trader Joe than hanging back until the associate was done ringing everything up, as we did a few months ago.
I carry a mask with me, but so far have only worn it at the vet and in medical offices, as still required here. We do have a pretty good vaccination uptake in my area. I am fully Moderna vaccinated.

WaPo headline of first confirmed Covid case inside the Olympic village, six days before the opening ceremony, so that's clearly going well.

Yeah, I mean, even if they did, they are sitting at closer to a 50% positivity rate in their group. The vaccines are still supposed to be what, 80% effective against the variants? One guy did have J and J which had a lower effectiveness, but recent that was like 65% or something? So IDK obviously everyone’s immune system is differently and they all could have just been unlucky that theirs didn’t confer immunity (at least, fully immunity) from the vaccine.

All the vaccinated people I know are still wearing masks in certain settings because they’re decent human beings.

Yes the vaccine doesnt completely keep you from catching covid. It gives your body the equipment to fight it faster and better. So you may show no symptoms Or mild symptoms or get sick enough to stay in bed But 85% or 90% or whatever effectiveness that you wont go to hospital And you wont die. Its why I still wear a mask everywhere.

I'm behind, but I read this headline as them lumping all kids under 12 together and that as a full group, they won't be able to get vaccinated until mid-winter. But the 6-11 sub-group, the article itself still says Pfizer is aiming for September. I'm just going to keep telling myself that for now.

thatgolfb were they all honest about being vaccinated? I really do think so. I know almost all of them (except for one guy I haven’t met), and I don’t think they would have any reason to lie about that. These are all generally smart guys.

I think you blocked me so you may not see this, but I don’t think it’s really fair to insinuate that vaccinated people that don’t mask are not decent human beings. Maybe I’m misinterpreting your comment. Or maybe I just don’t know what “certain settings” means.

Damnit now I’m mad at myself horribly. DS1 was tired yesterday and anxious because of drs stuff so he wasn’t eating. I let him go to an outdoor birthday party and my parents with my parents/brother and grandmother. For my sanity I just checked his temp and it’s 102.2. So now I feel like a fucking asshole.

I don’t think a vaccinated person not masking means they’re not a decent person. An unvaccinated person not masking, yeah, obviously is a jerk.
The CDC, which is supposed to be a trusted source for medical information, put out guidance saying you don’t need to wear a mask or follow any kind of guidelines if you’re fully vaccinated. In my opinion their guidance was premature. But if it’s not safe that’s an error on the CDC’s part, not the person whose following what they recommend.
I’m still wearing a mask and will continue to do so at least until my kids are vaccinated. Delta and future potential variants plus many stories of vaccinated people getting infected worry me. So to me it’s not worth the risk of skipping a mask. I just don’t like the implication that a vaccinated person not masking automatically means they aren’t a decent person.
