Amazon Sidewalk was enabled today if you have Echo or Ring devices- basically allowing your home wifi to be shared without your control. To disable: if you're behind the paywall, with Echo- open the Alexa app, go to account settings, select Sidewalk, and disable. I don't have a Ring, but it should be a similar process to disable it in the Ring app. Here's info about it- sounds sketchy at best. Why you gotta be like this, Amazon? www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2021/06/07/amazon-sidewalk-network/ETA To disable via Ring "If you’ve got Ring devices, go to the Ring app on a phone, then tap the three bars at the top left corner to get to the menu. Then tap Control Center, then scroll down to Amazon Sidewalk." The article says if you disable in one place, it's supposed to disable it for all of your devices across technology (ring and Echo), but definitely double check it. EATA From amazon on the devices enabled with Sidewalk A comprehensive list of Sidewalk devices includes: Ring Floodlight Cam (2019), Ring Spotlight Cam Wired (2019), Ring Spotlight Cam Mount (2019), Echo (3rd gen and newer), Echo Dot (3rd gen and newer), Echo Dot for Kids (3rd gen and newer), Echo Dot with Clock (3rd gen and newer), Echo Plus (all generations), Echo Show (2nd gen), Echo Show 5, 8, 10 (all generations), Echo Spot, Echo Studio, Echo Input, Echo Flex.

While none of that is necessarily surprising, I'm sick to my stomach reading it. What the gqp decries as "no big deal" was truly a near miss of total gov breakdown. Woof.

Maybe my echo is too old. It’s the first gen. I found it in ring with those instructions but it said to enable instal on of the devices it works on and gave me a list of devices. So I guess mine isn’t compatible with that either. Yay for old technology I guess. But I’ll have to remember when I upgrade.

And Jesus christ amazon. I canceled prime a couple years ago and won't go back. I've made approximately three amazon purchases in that time but need to try to cut out all together.
Woofs all around today!

It's nice to know that even though WaPo is owned by Bezos, they can still speak out about this BS.

So it looks like it's only for some Ring devices - I found the setting area on the doorbell we have and it doesn't look like it's available there, just three different cameras. We don't have an Echo, but we do have a Firestick, I'll have to check that out later. Thanks for posting!

This is more international, but figured this is the place to put it... {Spoiler in case it's too heavy} The final verdict was delivered to the war general Ratko Mladic today at the ICT. His appeal was rejected and the genocide ruling was upheld. It has been a very overwhelming mix of emotions for me. I felt like I was reliving the whole thing as if everything was flashing right in front of my eyes...all the places we fled to and from, I thought of all my family who is no longer here and then almost instantly, a sense of relief came over me as the verdict was read and justice was finally served. I broke down in tears and had to shut my office door to compose myself. I couldn't stop crying. Unfortunately, there are so many deniers of genocide and people who idolize this war criminal to this day. It's very terrifying and makes it hard to trust people.

And stupid question since I can’t read the article- if your wifi is password protected can it still share it?

notexactly, so much love to you and your family <3 My brother in law is also a survivor of a genocide (Cambodia) and I know how much it affects him and his family to this day. You are incredibly brave and I am so grateful that you are here.
