I think he thought that I went downstairs to feed M, and he had unplugged the iPad and it was sitting on the couch so I assumed that he was looking for me to unlock the iPad for him.
I barely even heard the alarm over the air conditioner and sound machine, and I must have just fallen back asleep because it was only 5 minutes from when I looked at my clock that I heard the alarm and woke up my husband. It never even crossed my mind that J was the one that set the alarm off, I honestly thought someone was breaking in or it was a glitch or something. I got up just to check and make sure J's door was closed after my husband rushed downstairs and realized that his gate was busted open and then it all made sense. I'm really glad that he didn't get out the screen door because he can't open it from the outside and he would have been stuck. That's what scared me the most. I think we'll be getting an extra lock for the top of all of our doors today. And thank god for that alarm.

All three children were in their beds at 7:05 tonight. I fear for how things will go with the twins later. Things are going to AWESOME. I hope they sleep a long time for you!

So. Tired.
T has been whining and grunting and gassy all night. I'm terrified I'm going to have to cut soy too.
But I'm hoping to try reflux meds and having his lip tie clipped first. Now I need to make a zillion calls to our dental and health insurance to figure out if that's covered or not.
It's $650 per tie for revision! Yikes.

Sleepy hugs brandie. These first months are so hard to figure out what's going on. Hope you can figure some things out today- is he not nursing well?

Sleepy hugs brandie. These first months are so hard to figure out what's going on. Hope you can figure some things out today- is he not nursing well? He's nursing and gaining great, but I have pain, clicks while nursing, he spits excessively, cries, arches his back and can't keep the breast in easily, is so gassy, I suspect reflux, etc. All those are indicators to have the lip tie revised. He's better since I cut dairy (which causes projectile vomit and screaming) but he's still having some green/mucous poop. We have a pedi appointment at 10. Hopefully he has some guidance.

I hope you get something figured out, brandiewine11. Now that babies are sleeping better, I'm still waking up at 4 (their usual wakeup time) for no apparent reason. They're waking up at 5 instead.

I think the doctor told me that 40% of kids with a milk intolerance are intolerant to soy, too. I have lots of food ideas for MSPI. It's not hard once you've already cut dairy. Promise.

Good luck Brandie. I wonder if a lip tie and not being able to keep the breast in can cause gas from excess air intake. During C's nursing strike, I was SHOCKED at how much burping she did after the bottle vs the breast (I'm sure it was mostly caused by my inexperience at bottle feeding).

MOTN question: How much soft cushy bedding can I put in with my 1 yo? C slept AMAZINGLY on my uncle's down sleeping bagish blanket when we were traveling. I'm reasonably confident that it's the blanket because she was sleeping awful until I threw that under the play yard in a desperate MOTN attempt at sleep. Then she proceeded to have some of the longest sleep sessions of her life. This make me want to improve her comfiness at home. ETA picture: this is from the day we left after I packed up the play yard and just lay her on the blanket.

I always understood that SIDS is reeeeaaalllly rare after 1 year old in a normal, healthy kid. Nugget has been sleeping with minky blankets since before she was a year (because she slept so much better with one) and regularly puts them over her face when she sleeps. You can start giving them a pillow at a year, so i don't see how a cushy comforter is any different. You could tuck it under the mattress if you're still paranoid about her getting tangled up in it.

Maple id do it. P has been sleeping with loose blankets. She can squirm her way out and or yell loud when stuck.
Also please sent me portion of said magic blanket.

Another vote for blankets in the crib. We did it around the time C and E could start pulling them off, so somewhere before the 1 year mark.

We've got a mattress topper that we basically don't use that gives extra padding and might do the job. We also use this dumb zipper sheet thing that might be annoying her when she rolls around. I might just go buy a regular crib sheet right now to see if it makes a difference.

I bought a memory foam crib topper when J was like six months I think, and well it didn't fix his horrific sleep patterns it certainly improved it. M has been sleeping on it since she was born and she's an amazing sleeper so that topper may be why. It's not super squishy, although I'm sure it's still not actually recommended. Aka, in short, do it mapleme! And good luck.

That's the key, a one year old can move a blanket away from their face or get out if they get tangled or yell if they need help, whereas it's harder for a younger baby to get free (especially if they're on their belly and can't roll on their own). If something is blocking their breathing, a one year old moves just like an adult does. Young babies sometimes don't have that reflex, which is part of why SIDS/suffocation happens.

DONE! I just bought the memory foam thing and two new crib sheets. And paid to get them tomorrow. It's amazing how much a mama will pay for sleep.

Thanks everyone. We have a script for Zantac to try. If he's not better in a week we will see a specialist about the lip tie. He wants me to try all that before making any additional dietary changes.

I'm totally spiraling on how wonderful this will be. Better sleep = better mom, happier kids, more energy to exercise, healthier family, etc, etc. In reality it will probably be exactly the same and then I will be all MOTN angry. But a lady can dream.
