We're not even touching the big picture windows because they're so freaking expensive and we have 5 of them. I'm glad this next stimulus will help a bit with phase 2. It's...a lot. I want to weep every time DH and I talk about it. We have two picture windows with tall, skinny double-hung windows on either side and the lady literally said "well huh" when she saw them. I feel like that does not bode well for my monies. ahem..... depending on your deductible.... if a child bangs a hot wheel car hard enough to cause a crack......replacement may be covered under homeowners.
NOT that I have experienced it or anything.

We just had someone come in to do an estimate for replacing our windows which are in terrible condition in a 100-year-old house. Hold me. I am not kidding when I say this was part of the reason I sold my last house. It was 100 years old and most of the windows were original to the house. It was going to be $$$$$$ to fix or replace and they were in terrible shape. I didn't want to deal with it. We have a program in our city that allows people who buy in certain neighborhoods up to $10,000 forgivable loan and it is 100% forgivable if you own the house 5 years. The people who bought it went through that program for their mortgage to get the loan and have since gotten new windows and a few other things done. It brings me great joy because I bought that house when I was 27 and loved it so much and I am so glad they get to enjoy the upgraded version. Yes, we are in the same place right now in terms of deciding to go left or right at the fork in the road. Sell now without doing anything and collect a nice-sized down payment based on the fact that we bought low and demand is so high for starter homes right now....but then face a nutty market where we'd have to pay a minimum of $200K more to get a nicer house that's the same size/character as ours. Or invest in the place and make ours the nicer version but ugh, pain in the ass. I change my mind almost weekly but making the decision on windows is going to make the bigger decision for us.

Hold me. *whispers* the credit for window replacement on houses is still in place. Also, I am bosomy, come, come, weep into my pillowy warmth. It's been a long day, sorry. I'm known for my love of tax credits.

I had to double-check this because I forgot it exists. It maxes at $500...which is 3% of our phase 1 costs. **Laugh/ sob/ lays head on bosom**

Remind me to stop going to GD. Woof. Nothing you said was wrong. Having also worked in libraries, I know exactly what you mean by "gross". I didn't, admittedly, read all the pages of various interactions, though. I do know I had to ask/wonder "is that blood or ketchup" more times than I care to think about.

We are at my aunt and grandma’s house for a long weekend. It’s so nice to be out of the house and it’s so nice to get to spend time with them without fearing I will kill them. They are both fully vaccinated now.
My aunt also got two cats during covid times and they are hilarious and so cute. I feel my stress level dropping just watching them.

The nanny search hasn't gone as well as I hoped, and now we're talking about sending the kids to daycare/ preschool. Today was M's last daycare day a year ago. It's hard and scary to even think about taking that step, but I'm not sure the pros of keeping them home outweigh the cons anymore. Our collective mental health is suffering.

This is super cool. SF announced a program to try to make some of the outdoor spaces restaurants created for the pandemic permanent parts of their businesses. I love the creative “parklets” that have been created and the European feel it gives. I hope my city does the same but there has been a lot more resistance to them so I kind doubt it. http://instagram.com/p/CMVmYwgpIaQ

I’m sorry notblanche. Those are hard decisions to make. We are still trying to figure out when we send DS back to school. It’s open but we’ve kept him home until things calm down a bit and teachers get vaccinated. I feel every week it is getting safer and safer. And hopefully that trajectory is going in the right direction. It will feel scary the first days and weeks probably but hopefully we can all settle back in more or less smoothly.

I’m sorry notblanche. I know you’re working with an agency but I don’t recall what other avenues you used before using them. Did you try Facebook groups for nanny’s in your city/town? That’s how we found ours and we got so lucky. I also used care.com to get my own first nannying job and it worked out well. Securing Childcare is so goddamn stressful. I’m sorry.
