I’m going to look for the paper now. I probably still have it in a binder or three in the study. I took a lot of ecological physiology classes focusing on how animals acclimate and adapt to climate change, so it always came up. It would have been in 2003/2004/2005, after I had declared my major. And YES to deep sea paleontology! It is such an interesting field with so much to offer. The senior researchers I met in those specialties at my grad program are also some of the nicest people in academia. Plus, it has great opportunities for travel and at-sea time! I'm pretty sure I took the oceanography class in Fall 2002, so I probably just missed it. And that's good to know. She's 7.5, so things might change , but I love how creative she is. She's in deep with dinos right now. So I think this was one of the earliest papers of that era to directly suggest that major shifts in currents from anthropogenic climate change oils lead to more extreme climate shifts. I’m pretty sure it was our Day After Tomorrow paper.: Thermohaline circulation, the achilles heel of our climate system: will man-made CO2 upset the current balance? WS Broecker. Science. 1997. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9374450/And I know we read this one too: The role of the thermohaline circulation in abrupt climate change Peter U Clark et al. Nature. 2002. The 2001 IPCC report also had a section about it, which I think is what most of my ES professors used for visuals for their lectures. But it was all future hypotheticals at that point, you know? Calling for the use of the precautionary principle and the development of new ways to measure the strength of ocean and air currents.

I’ll never not laugh about how much everyone in DC, even on the Republican side of the aisle, hates Cruz.

Last night I was a little restless so I decided to turn in a YouTube video of rain sounds for some white noise. An ad for something called Prager U starts playing, and I normally would have skipped it, but they caught my attention by having some mom blogger talking about how schools are brainwashing our kids with a liberal agenda. And it only got more awful from there. It was probably about a six minute ad, but I turned it off in a rage when she started talking about the “there are only two genders” garbage.
You guys are probably well-aware of this trash and Dennis Prager, but I hadn’t heard of it. Of course I know there are terrible things on YouTube, but to have it advertised to me like a legitimate product for educating your children... deeply offensive.
So instead of drifting off to rain sounds I stayed up for another hour researching this company and trying to find ways to contribute to its destruction.

thanks for flagging! I’ve definitely been annoyed by the knee-jerk criticism to this move. Propose alternative solutions. Saying “Ban ICE/DHS” doesn’t help vulnerable children arriving alone right now.

Yes, definitely theory and predictions, and it seemed like the idea of global warming was just becoming mainstream. How crazy that time was such a turning point. And how right they were.

I agree with you on that for sure. My response last night was ridiculous bc I thought you were arguing with me but there wasn't really a reason to think that. So I'm sorry. I was apparently in A Mood which was why I put myself in time out. We're good. I see how it could've been read that way and sorry about that. I went to bed otherwise I would've try to clear it up earlier! 💗

I've been teaching preschool and catching up on the GD drama.
Have we discussed that the DC US Attorney is investigating Congress members who have tours of the Capitol?

Is there more drama beyond the typical socks show? I’ve been avoiding the threads on GD once they start devolving. Gotta protect my peace, as they say.

I feel PB on having a lower seat. I’m a clutz and very much prefer to be able to put both feet in the ground when I ride, even if it isn’t optimal.
