I am all kinds of nervous about this. Same even though it’s the response to their attack last?,2? Weeks ago. I don’t think it was an Iranian facility but a facility used by Syrian Iranian-backed militants to smuggle weapons from Iran. So unlikely there were any Iranian casualties. I’m personally not overly nervous about it, though it’ll make the Iranians mad if we’re trying to patch up the JCPOA. But honestly, most things the US does makes the Iranians mad.

You serious, Clark? What hold does he still have over these people?!? So his condemnation of DT after the impeachment trial was fake news? I said to H last night that they are making him the Wizard of Oz, it is so bizarre.

A Boeing 777 had to make an emergency today when engine failure lights came on, but it didn't have the same Pratt Whitney engines as the one in CO. Just a coincidence?

Just WTF to Mitch. He has no soul and is hollow inside I swear. I was listening to fresh air this morning and the interview was with a New Yorker journalist who wrote about the insurrection. Can’t remember his name. Anyway, these people had “walking sticks” and flags tied to 2 x 4’s and baseball bats etc to use as truncheons, and the president encouraged them and gave them fucking directions.
How can someone hold their head up and support this piece of shit? I know the answer but ugh 🤬 💔

This is an incredibly fascinating story to me. 20 years ago, I took several earth and planetary classes, and this is playing out EXACTLY as how I was taught. The result of global warming is a halting of the ocean currents and leads to an ice age. It is still happening incredibly slow compared to our life span, but I am not sure back then I would have expected such tangible, measurable decreases by now. #scienceisawesome I’m in the middle of The Sea Around Us by Rachel Carson and she’s explaining how important all the currents and upwelling action is. It’s stuff that you’re generally aware of but when it’s put in such context it’s mind blowing. Upwelling is my jam. I love all of the abundance and diversity of sea life that nutrients from upwelling brings to the West Coast. I was a baby scientist in undergrad when the first big papers about the AMOC collapsing came out. There was a Nature paper that we read it in almost every ES class and fondly referred to as The Day After Tomorrow paper. But it’s awful seeing it all actually happen in my lifetime. And there are so many other examples of major changes in climate, lost ecosystems and biodiversity, and increases in extreme weather events with huge human costs that are really overwhelming and depressing to think about.

I'm wondering if I took my classes right before it was released, because I don't remember it being discussed and I feel like it would have been. Is it this one? The graphics actually look familiar. Idk. So long ago Hmm www.nature.com/articles/s41561-021-00699-zAs an aside since I think you would appreciate this, I sometimes wonder if I should have stuck with those classes. Not to brag, but they were small and I was younger and did better than the majors taking them, and I thought I should find a challenge elsewhere., lol overachiever young byjove. I also took classes on weather and my interest in that has never waned. DD1 wants to be a deep sea paleontologist (DH is really into that part of geology) and we are like GIRL YES.

That said, Mitch is smart (unfortunately). The former POTUS obviously still has a lot of support and the minority leader sees that and is playing the game. Again. Sadly, he's good at it.

I am by no means defending turtle but the question was 'would you support IF he was the GOP nominee" Its Mitch, hes going to say yes if GUMBY were the nominee. So i'm not shocked at his answer.

I’m going to look for the paper now. I probably still have it in a binder or three in the study. I took a lot of ecological physiology classes focusing on how animals acclimate and adapt to climate change, so it always came up. It would have been in 2003/2004/2005, after I had declared my major. And YES to deep sea paleontology! It is such an interesting field with so much to offer. The senior researchers I met in those specialties at my grad program are also some of the nicest people in academia. Plus, it has great opportunities for travel and at-sea time!

Yeah I reread more carefully and I think you’re right. The question basically was “are you going to stick with the GOP?” I’m hoping he was thinking “yes but he’s the nominee over my dead body.” They just need to get their shit together like they failed to do in 2015. Looking at CPAC, I’m not hopeful though.

Even this baffles me. How can a person be so craven as to say they'd support a man to run for president again when he publicly said that person was guilty of inciting an insurection (despite not voting him guilty)? He has no spine and no conscience.

I'm pretty sure I took the oceanography class in Fall 2002, so I probably just missed it. And that's good to know. She's 7.5, so things might change , but I love how creative she is. She's in deep with dinos right now.

Oh, I fully agree with this take on his statement. I think, for me, it is more that it is even a thing that needs to be said. He shouldn't even be a serious contender. But here we are and where things might go. It's fucking terrifying.

IF I were him, I would do exactly what he is doing as well. (I personally wouldnt because I have a soul) But by doing the 'both sides' things he is moving just enough to keep either side of his, I dont want to say base, but base, happy. Fox et.al. is going to run that clip all the time, and since those viewers dont seek out other media, they will be comfortable with his answer, while more moderate members are going to see him condemning as well and take that as a sign that when the time comes, he wont have to make that support because 'he' will work to get someone else in there.
Most people couldn't pick McConnel out of a line up and have very short memories so the only people he's worried about are his donors.

I think maybe I'm an old who is misusing the 👀 emoji bc I never said it wasn't smart Just seeing this now but I didn't mean for it to sound like I was arguing with you about anything. I was just commenting on Nancy's/leadership's strategery. I had just seen an Ilhan tweet frustrated about the whole thing and letting her and others have the chance to vote for it and then campaign on it is at least something. I agree with you on that for sure. My response last night was ridiculous bc I thought you were arguing with me but there wasn't really a reason to think that. So I'm sorry. I was apparently in A Mood which was why I put myself in time out.
