I finished my masters two months before our wedding, we wanted to honeymoon on the west coast of the us and spend more on that then on the wedding. Also alcohol prices are a lot (and I mean a lot!) cheaper over here. Also a lot of diy, favours and friends helped out . You guys do not want to find out what we paid for our wedding 😂. I’m sure it was really reasonable. You said you had like 40 guests? We had ~200. We did a lot of DIY things and didn’t really take a honeymoon. We drove up to Minneapolis for a few days. Stayed in a hotel (that DH booked, and didn’t have a hot tub) and shopped at mall of America. Very unromantic. I meant I wasn’t a lot . But we had a great day! We skipped on things like flowers, I collected tiny vases from everywhere and got flowers at the market the day before, my mil made the table runners, we decorated the place ourselves, made our own favours. I had a blast and would do it all again in a heartbeat. We had 50 ‘day guests’ but a 110 guests at the wedding. Eta I guess as long as you make amazing memories it all just doesn’t matter!

My wedding cost just under $1k. The dress, tux rentals, food, photos everything.

Mine was close to 10k. But that was 5 on the out of town wedding. And 5 on the family reception after. I wish we had skipped that. My parents got so trashed they were driven home in the beds of pick up trucks and carried into their house. I had my moms cash for tips and gave each bar tender 200 because I was soooooo mad. They should of had a lot left over, there was 0 🤷♀️

The only cringy gift we opened was from 2 of DH’s best friends (joint gift) that was full of sex toy/candy bra type things. I opened the box and closed it immediately so no one else could see in. Open bars are pretty bougie for here. A lot of times there will be weddings with a free keg (or 2) but everything else is cash. When I was a kid it was much more common for the wedding food to be made by family members, potluck style. But now it’s all catered. That's the other thing that's different here - all weddings are open bar. I don't think I've ever been to a local wedding that's not. and the amount of food is usually ridiculous. I remember at our wedding after the cocktail hour my inlaws were confused that there was a full dinner. They were like... but we just had all this food!!! We definitely do it big here. Cocktail hour is the best part of any wedding! We had the caterers pack up a big picnic basket of the cocktail hour leftovers and have it in our room when the guests finally left. It’s the one thing I always tell people who are planning their weddings.

I've never been to a dry wedding or cash bar wedding. I did go to one that just had beer and 1-2 kinds of wine.

Oh I just remembered I went to a vegan wedding with only wine once in Maryland. They had 4 trays of food and some crackers set up. MH and I hit up Wendy’s on the way home lol.

They did have really good cupcakes though!!

Haha now I’m wondering if mine was in VA and not MD - it was like 12 or 13 years ago. Maybe we were at the same wedding!!!!!!

I went to a wedding that was BYOB. However they informed by word of mouth and we didn’t get told so we had water and people willing to share. Being the only people who had to fly for the wedding my friends took pity on us.
