I mean, WE figured as much, so how could capital police and intelligence not. I mean there were Members telling their spouses where to find their will before they went to work that day

jaygee that makes me want to hug your husband’s grandma. Can you imagine living your life and having to figure out Facebook at this point? I joined Facebook early when they tied it to colleges. Back then people could add their college courses and it would link them to others taking the class. Also poking was big. It’s funny to me how it plays out with different personalities. H’a grandma is very much the type that has to do everything everybody is doing. She can’t stand being left out. So she tries to have everything but it’s a bit of a cluster. Last year she got a bee in her bonnet that she had to have an iPhone. She’s only ever had one of those jitterbug type phones. H basically had to strongly talk her out of it because he knew If she got one she would constantly be calling him to help her and there’s just no way she could figure it out. She was very unhappy but ultimately relented. Then you have my grandma who, after retirement, worked the front desk at her senior building for spending money. In the early 90s when they introduced a computer as part of the job and told her they would teach her she was like “no thanks, that’s not for me”. She just quit instead. She’s never had a computer or cell phone and has no interest. She’s pretty hip from reading and TV. She just knows when things are not for her and is content that way. I wonder what type I’ll be but considering I typed “bee in her bonnet” up above, I’m leaning towards being like my grandma. 😂

My great aunt is in her late 80s and has an iPhone and successfully navigates Facebook and Instagram. I love her. Pre-Covid she would travel to Vegas every year with her friends and get into good old lady trouble. She texts me about that asshole in the White House. She’s who I want to be when I grow up. We’re not all doomed to be left behind by technology, y’all!!

I don't mind Blippi. He was great at a signing event a friend from my BMB went to (pre-Covid), and certainly knows how to entertain the 3-year old in my house. In fact, my son dressed up as Blippi for Halloween! 😄 Agree! Blippi is fine after you get used to him. It’s better than those YouTube kid stars that act like brats while playing with new toys. I keep banning those channels and they keep coming back.... We've had a Huge attitude problem lately and I suspect Elsya and Annya are the culprits. She's banned from YouTube until further notice and has been crying about it for over an hour. (She has Freetime. There's no reason for her to be on YouTube).

It basically lets them download any games/books/videos for “free”. You pay like $100 a year or something. I don’t even remember because whatever the amount is I will keep throwing money at it if my kids don’t have to ask for me to pay for individual games and there are no ads.

It's an Amazon app that boxes them into it so they can't navigate away and is filled with books, games, and videos. It comes already on Fire tablets but you can get the app on Android.

But that kid has a million different channels and outlets and I know it’s because parents keep blocking him.

We love Freetime here too, which both kids have on their kindles. We also have an old iPad that I bust out occasionally for them to fight over which has YouTube kids, but I have it on the setting where I have to approve any video they watch which makes it much easier to avoid Ryan and the other internet children sensations. Highly recommend.

My ILs are good people but very bootstrappy. They don't realize that all the things that helped them "work hard and get ahead" (such as being able to work a part time job to pay for college, getting good pay after that allowed them to invest in a home that grew in value, etc.) simply don't exist in the same way anymore. This is my dad 100%. He was the first to go to college and paid for it himself and got an engineering degree. He worked in a government job making good money and we had everything we needed in childhood. He doesn't understand how much things have changed, or how much being a white male helps things work out in your favor.

It’s too bad because some of the science oriented stuff the mom does DS really liked. But the pranks and the screaming animated panda that is on there for some reason... no thanks. Recently both kids have been obsessed with Puffin Rock, which is delightful. Kids shows and YouTube channels just don’t need to be so loud and abrasive and snarky.

Dd1 never discovered Blippi so I thought we were good but the toddler discovered him recently 🤦♀️.
Dd1 is obsessed with A for Adley. I much prefer her over Ryan though. His mom's voice drives me crazy.

Oh anecdotes about education and pay? My husband has a bachelors and makes a couple grand more than me and my law degree. Granted, this is because I chose the public sector. It does make me laugh though. I will probably eventually surpass him a bit but not by the dichotomy of if I had I chose the path of private medium/big firm life (shudder). Shit I am in a corporate consulting role for big law and with my law degree made $30,000 less than MH who while he had enough credits for 2 degrees never actually finished college. I just realized I am 10 years into my practice too and haven't broken 6 figures (by a lot) which most people assume because I have a law degree. MD versus MH's two associates degrees. Because I had to leave my field full time due to health problems, and so only work part time, DH makes roughly 3x what I do. If you include his yearly bonus, it's probably closer to 3.5x. I could make more if I chose to switch to regular pathology, but that was never my passion and I'm pretty sure I would be fucking miserable.

Oh man, I thought I was the only one who has a kid who likes Elsia and Anya (sp?)
I didn't understand why kids like to watch other kids play when they could be playing themselves with their own toys, but then I read somewhere that the make believe is relaxing for kids' brains and this year has been stressful for them, too. 😭
I feel bad because DD doesn't really get playtime with other kids right now because of Covid. And I am always so busy with the twins it's hard to play with her (and, I just really don't want to sometimes, lol).
We've cut back a lot on YouTube, but man, she'd watch all day if I let her. 😬

If your kid is into science I'd suggest Emily's Wonder Lab on netflix.

I made the mistake of putting an app called Kid Doodle TV or sum shit like that on my girl's tablets because they wanted to watch Paw Patrol and it was the only place I could find free episodes to stream for them. Turns out that app is also full of all the popular youtuber kids. They are obsessed and I'm supremely annoyed.

My kids are currently obsessed with a show called Googoo Gaga - the show itself is fine, but the kid who is Googoo Gaga is like 8 or something, so I find them constantly calling him by "name" supremely obnoxious.
They also love watching people play with toys. I got Happy Kids TV on Roku, not realizing it would have all those kinds of shows, but at least it's not directly YT so I don't have to overly monitor.
