Dd2 will be transitioning out of early intervention in March when she turns 3 since she's pretty much met all of her goals.
But her PT has some concerns about her left hip so we have an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow. I really hope it's not anything major and that she can be done with specialists for a while.

You guys, I crushed an actual book today. I'm feeling so accomplished. I had started it last summer and was about halfway through and have been too preoccupied to pick it back up. I did today and finished it. Hopefully I can be a reader of books on the reg again!!

Anyone have any recommendations on dog training? Our friends are fostering a mom and 9(!) brand new puppies. DH and I are talking about adopting one of the puppies through the local Humane Society.
I didn't have dogs growing up. DH did as a kid, but no adult experience. I'd want to do it right. Unfortunately, our Humane Society is in the city and we're an hour away in the suburbs, so we probably couldn't commit to a puppy class there.
Are there puppy training methods? I'm an equestrian, and follow Warwick Schiller. Not sure if dogs have the same kind of behaviorist types. Or I'll take any book recs. If we do this, I'm committed to training and doing my best. Just looking to be prepared. Pups aren't going to leave their mom until early March, so I have some time.

I do thing that the sort of dog it is- breed characteristics- does make a difference, as does your style. light and breezy? comfortable w correction? think about what you want. Dog off or on the couch, the bed, shedding , kids allergies? fenced yard? Think about how you want to interact with a pet in your life- to run with? dog park in your area? hikers? campers? also- bark at the door? quiet? If you have tiny napping kids- not letting your pup alarm bark at the door might be more important than it is for me. How do you want the dog to greet guests- and do yu have lots of them? school friends will make a difference, your kid/s might be comfortable with the dog but their friends may not be- so stricter manners or a crate are essential. THese are all considerations. I have one super friendly but large dog with a lethal tail, so he needs to be respectful with space- a rock solid downstay. Otherwise hes basically a kid himself- trampolining with them, etc. My other dog is small and BITES< we know how to deal, but he must have a - go to your room command so that he goes to his area and chills instead of trying to kill everyone at the door. so many variables. We basically live with the dogs in our space most of the time- ie they sleep with us or close by, they use the furniture- and because the Child feeds them often- I now have a beggar. He does respect off, and go lay down- but basically one hotdog falling from the sky- and you not having a solid- leave it command - will change the flavor forever. The method isn't as important as picking something authentic to you, and sticking with it.

Local ice cream shop posts their daily flavors. Today in the middle of the list is “Deep Sleep Sheep” and I laughed a bit harder than I should have. What was the actual flavor?

carmensandiego yay, puppy!!! we are getting a puppy soonish and I haven’t had a puppy as an adult. I’m reading The Puppy Primer right now. The author says to read it week by week and teach in the order of the book, but I’m reading it all now. I’m not sure if I’ll do things in the order or not, but it’ll be good to have some knowledge!

Any Rent heads here? It's been 25 years since Jonathan Larson's death and the first performance.
(I feel so old.)

I think my contact may be stuck in my eye. And I spent so much time trying to find it that I’m pretty sure I scratched my eye last night. It’s so painful.
I’m at the eye doctor now waiting to be seen. I’m freaking out, and eye stuff usually doesn’t bother me. The xanax I took is the only thing stopping me from a full panic attack right now.

sherminator, thank you! My kids are 7 and 9 - so really the prime time for a puppy I think. I appreciate all the thoughts, many of those I hadn't even considered. I love the point about authenticity - THANK YOU! I would want to make sure we are training our puppy right, but also the kiddos will need a bit of training too. layloo, how fun! Thank you for the book recommendation, I'll grab it from the library. I'm a planner, so I'd probably read it now - and again in March.

karabear I'm sorry. I've lost a lens behind my eye for a few minutes and it's the most awful feeling. I can't imagine it being there overnight. Good luck!

My 5 year old's dance teacher must be a Rent fan, because my kid came home asking me to play One Song Glory on Alexa for her over and over while she danced around the kitchen. I approve.

You guys are all very sweet. My mammogram and ultrasound were both negative. Doesn't really help me understand why I have some pain but it is good news.
I also hope to never hear the phrase "dense breast tissue" again.
Thanks for letting me put this here.

OK so I had a mammogram and ultrasound due to pain and nipple discharge (sorry, TMI) and both came back clear. My PCP still sent me to a breast specialist out of caution. I saw her last week and she thinks the breast pain is from a vitamin D deficiency. I got bloodwork done on Saturday but haven't gotten the results yet. This may not relate at all to your problem but thought I would share because I thought it was a weird cause for the symptoms I've been having.

Dd2's orthopedic appointment went pretty well. They took x rays and we don't have to worry about hip dysplasia but she has internal tibial torsion where her thigh bones turn inward. She should outgrow it with age hopefully so I'm relieved.
But I feel bad because we have been correcting her "w" sitting on the advice of her therapists but the ortho told me that is probably the most comfortable position for her to sit and criss cross would be painful for her.

Oh wow! I was such a huge Rent-head in HS. At least once a month my sister, one of her friends, and i would hop on a train into the city and do the lottery. If we didn’t win we’d pay $20 for standing room only tickets and grab lunch until showtime. We also were obsessed with the actors and followed their music and went to some of their own shows and swooooon. I also dressed up as Mimi for Halloween senior year of high school lol.

I am going to spoiler below: I haven't nursed in over 2 years, but it feels like I have a clogged duct. I tried to work it out like I had a clog and also experienced discharge. I have a physical in 2 weeks so I will bring this up and I believe this would be covered in the bloodwork.

The clogged like duct feeling is what it felt like for me too. I had also stopped nursing almost 2 years ago so it was odd that I started leaking again. But the breast specialist think the pain is caused by low vitamin d and since I'm massaging it when it hurts then that is causing the discharge. But my doctor also ran a ton of bloodwork to rule out other things. Make sure they check your prolactin levels just in case.

I ordered some books last week from Thriftbooks- 1776, The Presidents Club: Inside the World’s Most Exclusive Fraternity, and Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation. I got the hardbacks for my one day bookshelf.
Pretty excited about them, TBH. I really didn’t like American history (and I have a history degree.. go figure) so I didn’t retain much.

I needed a planner so I stopped by Joann Fabric’s because I had a 40% off coupon. The only one they had that wasn’t outdated was an undated Wellness planner that says JUST BREATHE on the cover, and has sections for self care. I feel like it was meant to be. My therapist would be pleased 😂
