Ignoring calls to shut bars, or tell people to stay the heck home. Although maybe we need to focus on number of deaths since nobody is caring about the number of cases any more cause the number is so big. We were holding at 15 deaths a day, then 50. They announced 242. Death number was <6000. Blink over holidays its over 9000.

I feel like the crazy one because I have not gotten any less scared of the virus. If anything, I'm more now than I was even in the summer. So many people are contracting it, even being cautious, and I'm terrified. In the spring I was really scared of hospitals filling up so I'm right back there. It's good that we have treatments now that we didn't have then, but that's not helpful if you can't get a bed in a hospital.

Ugh, he's completely abdicated his responsibilities here.

So many people out and about. Nobody doing anything different except theres masks.

I'm in line for a test. I have mild symptoms so could be a cold, and no known exposure. But feels like the thing to do in this moment. It's not a rapid test.

You're doing the right thing! Since we have no known exposure I don't need to pull the twins from school, right? Not until it's real? I have a cough and sore throat. Nothing glaringly COVID like loss of smell.

Nothing glaringly COVID like loss of smell. I would check with your school. Our preschool (and my work- which is being vvvv conservative) policy is kids stay home if anyone in the house has a pending test. FX you are negative!

I am more worried but not scared for myself. We are isolated and limiting grocery trips etc and able to keep DS at home. But hospitals are filling up here so I’m worried for other people. And with the new more contagious strain in the state, I fear it’s only going to get worse. 😔

So many people are contracting it, even being cautious, and I'm terrified. We can be crazy together. I actually had a dream that I was exposed last night. I was transporting a patient to the hospital and didn’t have a mask. So, that’s where my inner thoughts currently live.

In the spring I was really scared of hospitals filling up so I'm right back there. It's good that we have treatments now that we didn't have then, but that's not helpful if you can't get a bed in a hospital. Yeah, the hospital thing is the only part that would have me more scared. Otherwise, we know more about transmission, have a vaccine being distributed, and have more treatments. And hospitals in my area are doing ok, so I'm less scared than I was in March. But that would change quickly if we had no beds. It's not just the hospital thing for me. It is the long term effects that seem to be happening no matter how mild the case is. That is what scares me the most. I mean there are even posters here who are talking about their months later problems. It feels inevitable at this point even with how careful we are being, unless we just don't leave the house ever for the next few months. Which is theoretically possible but we'd all lose our minds without childcare for the 3 kids and I don't know how we'd get work done.

I recently had a dream that I was on a cruise and having fun and then suddenly realized that no one was wearing a mask and how the FUCK did I get on a cruise ship and started panicking. I woke up sweating. Fun stuff!

Our local pediatric ICU has been full all week. Granted it isn't large-- that is part of the problem. Half the spots are filled with kids with MIS postCovid inflammatory syndrome and the other half with accidents/other illnesses.
Kids are back for mandatory schooling on Friday --- right now highschools and colleges are doing homeschooling, but my kids still have no modifications for covid -- no masks, no smaller groups, no pods -- they easily see between 50-80 people on average per day.
We haven't done enough sequencing to know how much of the British mutation is currently spreading, but our neighbor Denmark has seen it increasing slowly and they are sequencing much more than we are. I am hoping we get the vaccine before we get sick, but it is on a wing and a prayer at this point

My ILs are getting vaccinated on Friday! They are both in the highest risk group in FL. Despite multiple cases breaking out at the museum where he volunteers, FIL is STILL deciding if he's going to get the vaccine or not. At this point, unless they are coming into contact with us or N, I've had to let it go for my own mental sanity. They're adults. We have had many conversations with them about COVID, and if they still choose to do things like drive from FL to TX to spend Christmas with my BIL/future SIL, that's their decision. I've told H it's going to be like the flu shot when N was born. If they want to see him, they need to get it. Problem is, they could easily just say they got it and we'd have no way to confirm unless we ask for actual receipts. I really hate that this is where my relationship is with them now. When H and I were dating, they weren't this bad (or H just did a better job shielding me from it lol).

I know my FIL spent hours calling, trying to get through to the health department line to schedule their appointments in the Tampa Bay Area.

So CDC says Arizona has the highest rate of new COVID-19 cases in the US. Great My aunt that lives in AZ has been sending me screen shots of her conspiracy friend practically bullying her into going out. She keeps saying no and her friend won't leave it alone. Says it's all about control, etc. She wanted her to go to the karaoke bar with her on NYE!! I'm just in shock that these things are still open.

blablabirdie we are back to mandatory in person schooling too. I'm not enthused, but our numbers aren't as bad as some places though they are terrible for here. I'm so very anxious.

My sister’s roommate tested positive and she’s really upset. Sis is assuming positive even though she tested negative today and quarantining, but she has to miss 5 labs for vet school and she might fail. Luckily she wasn’t around the roommate until yesterday and hasn’t seen my parents or anyone since.
I’m kind of confused at the school, because they had all the students take a rapid test before labs yesterday, but wouldn’t give them the results until today. So the whole class has been exposed now.
