I love tart cherry juice in a wine glass. It has a ton of melatonin and helps me sleep! ETA: melatonin not melanin autocorrect This is good to know! I need all the help falling asleep these days

I downloaded This Naked Mind today and read the first two chapters. I'm intrigued and enjoying it.

I'm having a peach bellini flavored kombucha in my wine glass. It's hitting the spot!
I had a huge craving today around 3-4 due to stress from working/virtual learning.

@winomite, I tried seedlip grove a few months ago and it was good with ginger beer and a lime to make a mule.
The spice one sounds good too 😊

I hit day 10 today! I think maybe there’s some significance to that? Anyway, I feel great and really haven’t wanted anything.

I’m loving The Naked Mind. I want to binge it, but am following her orders to only read a chapter or two each day and spend time digesting the info and reflecting.
One thing that has really struck me is how much I’ve always brushed the health impacts of drinking under the rug. I have terrible allergic reactions to wine these days and have been battling some awful allergies that I figured were seasonal allergies going haywire. However, instead of putting two and two together that maybe the wine was having a bigger impact than I realized I just kept drinking it bc “red wine equals heart health so surely it can’t be bad!”. It’s just really interesting to take some time to reflect upon the messaging around alcohol on our society and what I’ve been led to believe over the last 20ish years.

ironcorgi, I'm usually on mobile and can't see signatures. But I've been watching that dog for a long time now. 😂

I'm pretty impressed I haven't have any wine tonight as I'm watching election results. The migraine helped lol. I’m sorry you have a migraine. Hugs.

Day 5 done! My stomach has felt off all day so I didn’t even want a drink. I stuck to kombucha last night while watching the Bachelor and it was delicious!

I just started yesterday but like others it's something about the evening that makes me crave a drink. So tonight I poured myself some sparkling water with a little juice and fresh watermelon and it was satisfying.
I mostly drink for the taste so I'm liking these mocktail suggestions.

It really struck me, how much I just glossed over how unhealthy alcohol is. This was fascinating to me too. Especially because I had gone through this whole health kick and lost weight and taken care of some medical issues I had and then I was just still mindlessly pouring a cancer causing substance in my mouth on a regular basis. It’s just not what we’ve been told or led to believe. I grew up knowing cigarettes cause cancer and was never told about the health impacts of drinking. And I know I’m an adult and should have done my own research. But, I didn’t.

Yesterday I got a faux whiskey in the mail that I had completely forgotten about. I think I backed it in a Kickstarter type thing many months ago. The timing of the arrival was perfect! It’s Spiritless Kentucky 74. It really had a lot of the flavors of bourbon, although not the burn. I think it will be great for mocktails. I had some over ice with some seltzer and a squeeze of lime and it was really good! I think with something gingery it’ll be really excellent.

These alcohol substitutes are so expensive! Just gonna keep muddling fruit in a glass and topping with sparkling water, I guess.

Day 6 here! Still no cravings or anything. I don’t even usually have anything until my kids are in bed at 8 and then I think it’s entirely out of boredom. So MH and I have a couple of drinks and watch our current show or whatever. So as long as I have a plan for 8 now I’m doing fine. Lots of jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles and so much reading that I’m finishing a book a day at this point. I don’t hate it at all.

Day 6 here too! I usually talk to my mom online in the evenings and we each have a glass of wine, but I had tea and she did t even notice and it went fine. I think I will skip weekend drinking as well at least for the first 2 weeks and reassess then. Good ideas here for other drinks - I’ve mostly been doing diet soda which I don’t think is that great of an alternative but if helps my sweet tooth.

These alcohol substitutes are so expensive! Just gonna keep muddling fruit in a glass and topping with sparkling water, I guess. They definitely are! I actually was heavy into mocktails for a long time, because I don't like to drink very much when I'm training for a race, which was usually always (but then 2020 happened and all races were canceled and I got into some bad habits.) But, from before times, I have amassed a whole alcohol free bar set up, getting a new thing once or twice a month. I think I mentioned before that if anyone is into craft beer, Athletic Brewery makes some excellent NA options. Their All Out Stout is one of my favorites. I really like the Monday "gin." Ritual's "tequila" is good in faux margarita, and it actually has a little bite because they use some hot peppers in it. I don't like their faux whiskey though– it seems almost chemically. MH likes one of Lyre's "rums." They actually have a couple. I think he prefers the non-spiced one. I also like Lyre's Italian orange and Aperitif Rosso. You can make something that really feels like a campari based drink with those. Good old San Pelligrino Chinotto or, harder to find, but I think even better– Sanbitter, are also reminiscent of campari/ aperol drinks. Also, Fever tree tonic water is a great base for a mocktail. Muddle that with some cucumber and mint. Or just have their bitter lemon one straight over ice, and use a little rind for garnish. It's so refreshing and it feels fancy!

Where do you all find these mocktails? I’ve never seen them before.

Day 6 here. I’ve lost 5lbs of what I can only assume was water weight because I certainly haven’t done anything else. Feeling great overall, still no cravings either.

I have a cocktail book with some mocktails in it. I'm going to make this today, I already have the ingredients. Switchel 48 oz water 6 oz cider vinegar 4 oz pure maple syrup 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats 2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest 1/4 teaspoon table salt Bring all ingredients to a brief simmer then let cool to room temperature, about an hour. Transfer to a container, cover and refrigerate at least 6 hours or up to one day. Strain and serve over ice with a lemon slice. Makes 12 drinks.

I will have to give that a try!

I’m really struggling here where it is night with the news about the election certification and what is going on, but I’m going to stay dry and deal with it by eating popcorn and watching RuPauls drag race. It got me thru most of my Covid stress. And I have to pace a few hundred more steps to reach my daily goal. But a glass of wine sounds so nice right now

I haven't yet but I reaaaaaally want to with all going on. So tense. I need to step away from the news. My strategy: Step away. Work out. And then think about if a drink is going to make me feel better. (I don’t think it is.) No judgement to those who choose differently, but I really like for a drink to be celebratory, not because I’m feeling bad.
