Day 19 here. I can't believe the month is 2/3 over. I'm still doing well. I have a checkup and blood draw on 2/5 so I'm going to wait until at least then before having a drink.

kittyriot I'm proud of you! Don't forget that after that glass of wine you would still be feeling those hard feelings anyway.

Day 20, doing okay, I was struggling at the end of work/school/trying to make dinner. But I realized it was DD pushing all my buttons so if I could figure out a way to get a little bit of quiet time away from her, I’d be okay. Once I figured that out...craving disappeared.

Day 16 for me. I was surprised that I didn't crave a drink tonight to celebrate the inauguration. I'm happy I didn't drink because I know I would have easily drank a bottle and then felt awful tomorrow trying to get DD1 to school.
I have class a couple evenings a week so MH makes dinner and I usually only have time to eat before we start the bedtime routine which I think is also helping. I don't have much down time in the evenings anymore which is when I would drink mostly out of habit.

According to my tracker, I'm on date 17 and have consumed 7000 less calories.
I think in February, I am going to pick one day a week to drink. I do not want to go back to multiple drinking days a week.

I usually don't have any trouble not drinking on 'official breaks'. However, this is the first break where I'm not planning to just go back to drinking as usual when the break is over.

Though, I'm gonna admit I haven't gone over 2 weeks without drinking since like....college. Minus pregnancies.

I had a some drinks on inauguration night and I wish I would have skipped it. I didn’t drink that much, but I felt terrible the next morning when I had to get up at 6:00. I did not sleep well thanks to DS waking up for some reason and then not really falling back asleep. But I still think it was mainly the alcohol. I think going forward after dry January I will be a light weekend drinker and not drink during the week. And even then, not every weekend night.

This kind of feedback your giving yourself is so valuable and I really think it’s the point of taking breaks. It just allows you to better decide when it’s a good time for you to have alcohol and when you would rather skip. Good job!!

I’ve never done an intentional break before and now I wonder why not.

My H asked if I minded him having beer with dinner. I said no worries go ahead. I didn't even realize he had been doing dry January in solidarity because he doesn't really drink much to begin with. Day 22 here and proud of myself cuz that beer was looking real good.

I’m still having a very mostly dry January (apart from my birthday and an at home date night with MH) but I also got my gallbladder out on Wednesday and so that’s making a drink sound like the worst thing in the world anyway. I might pick one night next weekend to imbibe if I’m feeling a lot better but otherwise I’m planning on staying the course.
Going forward I’m looking forward to excluding all weekday nights including Sunday from drinking plans. I’m also going to make an effort most weeks to not have even one drink on Fridays since Saturday I meal plan and shop and prep and deep clean and it’s much easier to do without the groggy post-drink feeling.

I’m having very hurt feeling feelings today and I very much want to drown my sorrows in the bottom of a very large glass. I won’t. Bc I will still feel those hurt feelings and then also feel guilty for drinking. But I still wish I could.

tj I feel you. DS has been extra 2.5 lately and it's a lot. Alcohol would 'chill me out'...but no, it really wouldn't.

I took my planned pause for my birthday and was super meh about the drinking. I slept terribly and felt anxious and emotional the next day. I hope I can remember how crappy I feel after drinking next time I feel like drinking on a weeknight or just because I’m bored. I plan to really cut back after this month and drink on special occasions occasionally but keep it rare.

So far so good. I had one drink since starting dry January. I feel good about it because the one drink I did have I was able to be mindful of it. It was planned ahead (to celebrate a big meeting at work being over) it was quality (my favourite cocktail) and I was able to thoroughly enjoy it while keeping it to only one. It’s been so nice to be able to cut out mindless extra drinking that I wasnt even really enjoying.

Can anybody recommend a good gummy to buy online? I just learned that Texas does allow people to purchase CBD products online (there are no reputable places around me that sell it). I really like these. I have 1/4 to 1/2 of one at a time. They actually have THC in them, but it's the Delta 8 strain (not Delta 9), which I guess is a legal gray area right now. It does have psychoactive effects, but much less than regular weed. There's no paranoia or anxiety for me, and just a mellow, relaxing feeling. So I bought a bottle of these to try, and completely forgot the recommendation to try 1/4 to 1/2 at first to see how it goes. I just popped the whole one in last night because the bottle said take 1, and OMG. I’ve never actually had the delta 9/“real” weed before, and despite this being delta 8, I was not prepared. I feel fine today but my god last night I was feeling almost too mellow, despite being super anxious I was feeling like that. So now I know and I will maybe try 1/4 of it the next time I’m brave enough
