@zweber it makes me giddy that the dick warmer is the photo for this thread. I had to come in here and see if I was really looking at a dick.

I buy my yarn at Joann's or Michael's. I have knitting needles coming tomorrow to start learning over again (I haven't tried knitting since middle school). I'm almost finished crocheting an afghan/throw that I've been working on on and off since Christmas. It's my biggest project so far. Here's the beginnings of it a while ago: And excuse my ugly mug, but I also made this Princess Leia hat for my oldest. It keeps your ears really warm.

I forgot why I came into the thread to begin with. To show my rag rug that I'm almost done with. Made from old clothes. I LOVE this!! Y’all are inspiring me to get back into crochet and sewing. I remember seeing a social media post about rugs made with plastic bags. I think me and the kids will do that next. I have wayyyy more than usual because Kroger was not allowing reusable bags for a while due to covid.

Where do you buy yarn? Walmart is my closest place but I don't always love their selection. I don't have any craft stores close but can order online. I just don't like to order without being able to feel it and I don't know enough about brands/varieties to know what I'm getting. Check Facebook marketplace if you have it. Sometimes crafters unload their stash (TWSS) and you can get some qualify yarn.

Can't wait to get back to those events.

I'm in a knitting group and they know of a lot of small shops that might not be on your radar!

The closest yarn shop to me is around an hour away. Debating if I want to make the trip or just order something for this blanket. I am apparently being way too picky about this yarn.

Honest opinions please. The warm color scheme I was envisioning for my dad’s blanket is potentially going to be really retro. All plotted out I’m not sure how I feel. Before I commit to the yarn, what do y’all think? These are rough color estimates of the Cloudborn Pima Cotton DK yarn. I’m going with stripes vs granny squares for his.

gingy it is pretty retro looking. Do you think your dad would like it? What about using more of a red for higher temps instead of the rusty brown? What about a shade of blue for the cooler temps?

He's a red and orange kinda guy, but this is a LOT. I'm hoping to stay away from really bright colors, but I'm having trouble finding a yarn with enough muted warmer colors. This yarn is discontinued, so of course their pale yellow is sold out, etc. I might need to take out an orange and add a blue or something. What doesn't help this at all is they just moved into my grandparents' old house, which is firmly stuck in the '70s. They're slowly updating, but I could 100% picture my grandmother in that house with this blanket lol.

If it’s a pain to get different yarn, definitely use what you have! Here’s one with blue. I can’t insert a pic, but like this: craftwarehouse.com/knit-or-crochet-a-temperature-blanket-free-printable-chart/

I like that color scheme cranberry-silver blue. That's kind of what I was going for. Sticking mostly to warmer colors. They're not blue/purple people. Maybe sticking another neutral in would help too.

So here’s just taking out the brighter orange and adding light blue.

I like the colors after adjustment, gingy! Is there a reason 40s are a light green then 30s go back to a neutral beige?

I found this while looking at "muted temperature blankets" and I like it too. I'll have to play with how that works out.

I have cast on anxiety. I picked a shawl pattern (Knit Night) to work through some of my stash, but I can't seem to start it. Does anyone else have that getting started anxiety?

Thanks. I do love the vaulted ceiling in the family room. Hence the reason I now have my home office set up there.

I do not love casting on. If it's a lot of stitches, I have to wait until my hormones are balanced and the stars are aligned.

I hate long-tail cast-on the most. I will use any other method I can unless it's specifically called for.
