Virginia contingent, are we talking about Terry McAuliffe? Idk how I’m supposed to feel about this I'm not thrilled about this at all. Aside from not really liking him, I also don't think he is what VA needs right now. And with black women like Jennifer Carrol Foy running it seems so tone deaf. Yeah, same. I texted a friend when I first heard the rumblings about his campaign, why does this white man think we need him to save us?

Virginia contingent, are we talking about Terry McAuliffe? Idk how I’m supposed to feel about this I’m not thrilled. He’s good, but we have several other candidates that I’m more excited about. I worry he’s going to suck up all the money and media attention in the primary. That said, he was a decent governor before and I’m sure he would be again.

This seems like such a nothing burger story but doesn’t stop house gop from making it into something. www.sfgate.com/politics/article/Eric-Swalwell-China-spy-Fang-Fang-Axios-explained-15788671.php“The report has opened Swalwell up to all sorts of criticism from the right, with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy calling him "a national security liability" who should be stripped of his post on the House Intelligence Committee. Swalwell was not accused of wrongdoing, but McCarthy alleged, "this is only the tip of the iceberg" and demanded more information.”

They are accusing him of a full blown sexual relationship with her

Well, maybe Melania is planning several exit strategies. I thought this article was equally kind of interesting re First Lady WH transitions, and annoying. For the record, I have Ikea 365 everyday china in plain old white, and a Mikasa set of 'nice' china' that I got on sale when Mikasa had an outlet near me. LOL www.cnn.com/2020/12/09/politics/melania-trump-future/index.htmlHmm, Ikea Swedish meatballs - another shopping/eating trip I'm looking forward to doing in 2021, I hope! This is the single most shocking thing I’ve ever read: “ Melania Trump has most commonly opted to borrow place settings from the official Clinton china set for her White House events, the two Trump-hosted state dinners included. There are 300-place settings of apropos ornate, shiny gold plates and dishware selected by Hillary Clinton when she was first lady.” I kind of feel like Melania did that to spite her husband. I hate her, but this would be a good secret if she used Hills china set and didn’t tell him.

I need someone to explain the waiver thing for Austin. I know he needs one because he hasn’t been retired for 7 years. But I just saw Tammy Duckworth says she will vote for his confirmation but not in favor of a waiver. Does that mean he can’t get a waiver? Someone with military knowledge explain this to me like I’m 5.

Okay, I think that was the piece I was missing. The house votes on a waiver. But Duckworth is former military so I typically respect her opinion on these types of subjects. I’m curious what the argument is against a waiver. It seems arbitrary to me, but I also know about as much about the military as I do about farming.

I can’t imagine Senate republicans are going to pave the way for a Biden nominee.

My state is one of the 17. And yet if California, NY, or IL sued us to overturn our election results, people would lose their freaking minds.

SoD is supposed to be a civilian position and my guess is to stave off any inter-military coup attempts. The waiver has only been employed twice before, once with Mattis, so the wariness is still fresh from that. The Atlantic has a handful of pieces that are pro and con having Austin serve. All of them are quite complimentary of him as a general and person, but the con pieces are about the blurring the lines of civilian positions.

Slotkin was also talking about how the line between military and civilian needs to be shown as clearly divided. She is on the Armed Services Cmte so they will be the ones voting the waiver? But she wants to hear more from Austin before making a statement.
