I didn't even know they still sold puppies at pet stores. Any cats and dogs at pet stores here are from rescues. This store has been around forever, I remember going there as a kid, and I think it’s the only one in town that sells puppies. I am not planning to purchase from them and I haven’t looked into who their breeders are or anything. Let me tell you tho, it is so hard to get a puppy from the rescue here that if you want one you basically have to search out a breeder. Buying a puppy from a breeder isn’t cheap, that’s for sure.

trtlcrzy I hate that some rescues are so exclusive they make it hard for anyone to qualify. There are a lot around here in which if you have other pets or kids under 10 they won't let you adopt. 🙄 I got my dog from a rescue based out of Texas who comes here once a month for adoption events. I volunteered for them for a while. My parents town has an amazing shelter because someone donated $$$$ when they died and they get a ton of pets from CA. My town's shelter is gross and the people who work there are jerks.

I just discovered Home for Christmas on Netflix. Apparently it existed last year because the second season starts later this month. I'm only a few episodes in and it's so good. It's a Norwegian comedy about a woman who is trying to find a boyfriend for the holidays because she lied to her family and said she had one to get them off her back. So far I love it and she has hot sexy time.

You’ll probably pay more in vet bills for a pet store puppy. We still have pet stores here. Some of the pet supply places are teamed with rescues but there are mom and pop ones and also some in malls that are selling dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals. It’s so sad to see them in small cages.

There is an animal rescue in my small town, Always and Furever, and they specialize in older dogs and dogs on the euth list. I'm on their FB page and it breaks my heart, but they do so much good. H and I have come pretty close to adopting another dog from them, but someone else adopted her before we did.

You can't have kids under 10, no under ground fences, no cats, no other dogs. Its insane. I understand some dogs are cat aggressive and need a home without them, but not the whole breed!

I looked into Goldendoodle breeders a tiny bit because there's one across the street who is the CUTEST DOG EVER. However, they're so expensive and I'm not sure I could pull the trigger and not rescue. We got River when he was 1.5ish (probably older but that's what they estimated at the time) and he was already potty trained which was nice. I mean, he's clearly not a very well trained dog based on my stories about him, but still lol.

It's so frustrating. I guess for a very small rescue they can choose to be picky. But it just leaves people like me looking elsewhere. I'd rather drive 3 hours to that amazing shelter in OR where I'd have plenty to pick from than be heavily scrutinized with unrealistic standards. Some of the exclusive ones here also won't let you adopt if you have a job outside of the home. 🙄
