Today was the first day of distance learning and I’m exhausted, and we got an email saying they’ll be adding more in tomorrow. I think she had 6 or 7 google meets today, will be adding in one more. Plus fitting in dropping off and picking up h from school. I don’t think I sat down all day so now Dh has the kids in the basement and I’m having wine in silence.
Tomorrow I have an appt in the cities so Dh will be working from home and managing this chaos. Good luck to him! I did set up an echo dot next to her desk and scheduled Alexa to say “hey N, it’s time for your next google meet” 3 minutes before each one so nobody forgets. I don’t know how those of you who’ve been doing this for months manage it!

Col went back - though totally virtual - after a 4 day weekend and he was a wreck. I'm trying to remind myself that I had a bad attitude all day too. Hopefully there will be less frustration and tears tomorrow.
It's interesting to see how everyone's virtual classwork goes. Colin is on a Zoom with his teacher from 8:45 to 3:15, only breaking to do Google meets for specials or to do a quick flip grid. They even stay on during lunch/recess - most kids go on mute and turn off their cameras but they can stay on and socialize as well. They are often working independently but his teacher likes to keep an eye on them.

they're going to admit him and he's starving. Lol. The speech therapist still hasn't come in to assess his swallowing, so the ER won't give him anything to eat. 🤦🏽♀️ what is with these therapists? Seems like they need to hire more because the patients’ needs aren’t being met. Poor guy.

tgrimes I hope your dad is ok and can get some food soon. wineallthetime I’m glad things are going well. I can understand why your mom is being so cautious with your dad now being immune compromised. Could you or one of your sisters talk to her on the phone on her drive home to make sure she stays awake if she won’t stay?

We have been doing it from the start of the school year but our schedule is much different than that! 9-10: google meet 10-11: break 11-12: google meet 12-1: break 1-2: google meet Then there is a list of homework you can do during breaks or after school. The tons of meetings would stress me out!

MIL texted me late morning asking if I would bring the kids over after H got home from school to help her decorate her tree. So we did that and of course it was all bickering and fighting while trying to get ready and to the car. She was in TX with her friend for the 3 or 4 weeks and brought back the girls some very fug shirts, I guess it’s the thought that counts.

Here’s our schedule for tomorrow. I’m just glad they are very organized at least.

lahdeedah, I hope everyone is okay. tgrimes, your poor dad. Hopefully the therapists gets in there soon. If Josie’s school goes all virtual they are following an early dismissal schedule so the kids will be done at 12:30 every day. The live zooms run every other day from 830-1230 with decent sized breaks. On non zoom days, they have asynchronous work in their apps (lexia, seesaw and freckle) .

S is all virtual. He signs into Google classroom at 8:35 and signs off at 12:50. Everything is through there and the teacher is teaching them the whole time. She gives them breaks but they stay on it. The specials teacher come on the same Google meet to do their classes.
He gets lunch & recess from 12:50-2 then in the afternoon it’s either small group instruction with the teacher (usually once per week) or worksheets/apps during that time m
It seems to be working pretty well. His teacher is very engaging and he seems to enjoy it. I’m glad he’s just on all day and not logging in and out

slenle that is what Cs schedule was like last year. It was brutal for me trying to manage working and that schedule. They have since changed the model since we are in person with the option of DL. Now the teacher teaches and the zoom kids are on a screen and are treated like all other students doing things live. They all get breaks throughout the day. His teacher is very cognizant of screen time and tries to build in breaks fairly often.

T also just stays on 1 meet from 9-1:10. There are 2 breaks of about 15 minutes but they stay on and just turn their cameras off. Special teachers come to those meets. It is long but I’m glad now it’s that way since he has to manage mostly on his own. I teach in the basement and when he has gym, it feels like the ceiling is going to collapse on me.

I could not do that schedule of all day zoom. My house is a circus of children and noise. I can keep the other 2 distracted for 30-45 minutes twice a day but not all day! While Matthew was virtual these last two weeks, he had one at 9:15, one at 1 and then special at 2:20. None of them were more than 40 minutes long.

If C’s babysitter shuts down, I will have to take a leave of absence. 5 of us on google meets with him running around would never work.

My state is threading strict stay at home orders again. I just told c if that happens he’s going to have to help with the kids more. I end up having to do 13 hour days to feel like I have them 8 hours of work and that’s not fair to me.

We are on a two week “pause” which is basically a stay at home request, bars and gyms are closed, no sports, restaurants at 33% but can only seat households together so you can’t go out with anyone. I expect that as the Thanksgiving travel numbers come in, we will fully shut down. Our Governor is doing her best to keep k-8 in person since school spread has been minimal. High schools are virtual for the pause. Since I go nowhere and Dh is a essential it doesn’t change anything for us except higher demand for grocery delivery. Obviously if schools close it will. Hopefully that doesn’t happen. And yes chrisy01 you need his help. I am amazed at how much you kill it at life every day and understand how one more thing will collapse it. I hope he sees that too.

Cadence signs in at 8, logs off at 10:20, logs back in at 11 for specials, off at 12, back on at 1:15 for math, off at 1:45 to do her assignments and chores.

Cadence's Mrs. Claus gift arrived today and she is so excited for her elf arrival. She wanted to immediately read the book and go to bed early so she could meet her. I just put her on the bookshelf with a note. There will be no sneaky tricks or mess making. Just a nice little elf.

We had a family fight over the name that resulted in a hat draw and j bawling... awesome.
