The Ditch Mitch fundraising campaign has over $14 million now. Before RBG’s death was announced it was at 3.5M, I believe. Also I have now become aware of the phrase “resting Mitch face” and I will be using it regularly. Is that going to other races because mitxh isn't going to lose? Not to be a Debbie downer Yes, it’s going to all the close senate races.

ALSO- RGB was totes OK with the Trump administration speeding up deportations. People always cite her dissent it I fee also overlook when she sides with the conservatives on some side-eye worthy Cases I don’t expect perfection but I find the sainthood nauseating Better rbg who we kinda knew would sometimes vote a way to make trumpers happy, if she found legal precedent for it. Than a trumper on the sc who will vote how he wants them to regardless of law or precedent.

I think there should be a limit to how many justices can be appointed in one presidential term as well. No one party should have the ability to stack the supreme court without voters having a say. They should not be appointed for life time terms. There should be a cap on age. RGB battled colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, broken bones and blocked artery. She’s should’ve retired after Scalia died I agree completely.

McConnell blocking Merrick Garland 200+ days from the Election, that was it right there. To me, that is why we are where we are.
On the other hand yes, RBG should have absolutely retired during the Obama admin, I hear you guys. 100,000%. And we should not have lifetime appointments to begin with. It defies logic to me honestly.
But Mitch McConnell is an absolute stain on American politics. He has no regard, no shame, nothing. He plays dirty, and if the Democrats don't go scorched earth on his ass, then I don't even know. If some moderate Republicans with sense could have the guts to call his ass out......but yeah, no. I am so tired of Democrats hoping the other side will play nice with them under this guy. Like where have you all been??? You think McConnell is going to compromise with you? LOL. OKAY. He stalled anything and everything 44 was trying to do once they had the control to do so. He said his only goal was to make him a one-term President. He has no interest in compromise, he has no interest in anyone or anything except money and power. That's what these fucks are about.
And I don't think the Dems are really that much better but I am choosing to side with them over this current slide to fascism.
Anyway, I am filled with rage today.

Better rbg who we kinda knew would sometimes vote a way to make trumpers happy, if she found legal precedent for it. Than a trumper on the sc who will vote how he wants them to regardless of law or precedent. Nah. It doesn’t work that way. I can find legal precedent for anything. Including slavery and poll tax. The problem is she’s being eulogized as a saint. Any criticism of her is seen as needing women to be perfect or some such. RBG was problematic. It’s like how I have to vote for Biden and ignore all the problematic things he’s been saying and doing I also think it’s weird to shut down any criticism because a woman like RBG would take it imo. Obviously I don’t know her personally but, in general, I feel when people get to a certain level they are used to a lot of criticism. If we can’t critique and the push back on our leaders, what do we have really? I think she was a great woman and thought the world of her. But I want to know the whole story and all viewpoints.

Or donate to pay fines and fees in florida so people can vote Tell me more about how to do this? Im gardening and cant find link easily. Look at politics board here for info. They may have enough $ to pay the fines, but florida infrastructure sucks so they dont know how much people owe? Which is assinine.

I understand people saying RBG should have retired in Obama's first term, since we had power of the senate then [right? my memory is always a question these days]. I don't understand anyone (not here) saying she should have retired when the GOP has controlled the senate, since we would have just ended up with another Garland fiasco. I believe there's room to criticize while also acknowledging all the good she's done. I also think it's okay to take a beat to grieve and not wanting to engage in the criticism quite yet (again, not saying anyone here has said otherwise). She was a Jewish woman in the SC when both of those things were strikes against her. Mourning her is not denying her flaws, just like noting those flaws isn't a denial of her impact. Yeah, the body isn’t cold yet. I’m just going to have to step away, I guess.

I don’t think she actually was okay with the Trump administration speeding up deportations as a whole.

Look I didn’t mean to offend anyone with my comment. I am in awe of RGB’s legacy and mourn the loss. She was a trailblazer. But I just wanted to hold space for critique of her career, especially from a viewpoint that is the minority on this board. It seemed like that was being silenced and that is odd to me. But I will exit the thread. I said my regards to RBG.

If anyone is interested, The Daily podcast has a two part RBG pod that I am working my way through.
Man, it mad me even sadder, though, hearing everything she has done for women laid out in one podcast. I am really nervous for what this means for the future generations, especially those individuals with uteruses. I am legitimately afraid for my girls. This was a big blow to my optimism.

I came in here to mention the 2 party podcast by the daily too. Oh it was so good. I'm coming in late to this but I cried friday and woke up saturday and cried some more. The first part of the daily was so inspiring just listening to her legacy.

But I will exit the thread. I said my regards to RBG. I was trying to do the same. It is really hard in these situations. I want to acknowledge some people’s conflicted or negative feelings, while celebrating the badass woman she was in so many respects. No one is perfect, and I think we can acknowledge that without attacking people. And I honestly think RBG would want us to talk about this stuff. She wasn’t exactly one to shy away from a discussion about hard things.
