I’m sorry, fosterlove, that’s so stressful! I’ve come to the conclusion that I will have to livestream my classes. It’s the only way to make any of this remotely equitable for distance and in-person learners. I’m not excited about it, but it is what it is. Fingers crossed that my distance learners’ parents are all reasonable people who won’t be hovering to gather ammunition against me or my other students.

This reminds me about something my DD’s K class is going to do at some point that I thought was a cool mixed learning idea. They have a virtual buddy station and each in class student has a virtual buddy and a 10 min time slot every other day where they do a reading group together. I think she said they’d start with flash cards of letters or sight words And eventually love on to reading out loud. I thought it was a neat way for distance students to get acquainted with their classmates when they don’t necessarily get to see them. She said they’ve done some about me activities and so far the kids seem to enjoy it.

BIL moved back home from out of state for now because his job was eliminated, and he was telling me a story of how an old man yelled at him for trying to walk into a church today with no mask. Like I should be outraged at this. I’m pretty sure I just stared at him with my mouth wide open. Now I have to have MH have a talk with him about not freaking visiting our house every day if he’s going to be trying to Karen his way into places with no mask.
That doesn’t even happen here, I haven’t seen an unmasked public face since March.

I am feeling the need to hunker down and basically keep us quarantined again, for me and my girls. I realize it is a holiday weekend. But I see so many people gathering. On FB my cousins traveling to FL and GA. Other extended family members/cousins getting together for pig roasts, and even my baby bro and sis going out to friends parties this weekend. And with area schools starting last week and this week. I just have this sinking feeling. I got grocery pick up yesterday and will probably next time too. My girls will start virtual school this week so that eases my mind some. I think we'll just lay low for a couple of weeks and see how things go. I’m feeling the same. The amount of people i see gathered and the Facebook pics i see posted....ugh.

I have kids who have mostly been in school together for 10 years or so, so they know each other well. I’m going to experiment with different ways to integrate them into the class, I might try putting their Zoom up on my smart board so everyone can see them.

snowyowl, I don’t know what grade or subject you teach but I think that’s a great idea. I don’t know why you’d get blow back for live streaming either, but I hope you don’t.

He’s been here a few weeks and this was the first time he tried to go out in public. I’m like, you have to wear a mask out, it’s a pandemic.

It will be slow reading but important as it clarifies how suspected and actual positives will be handled. I'm just tired. But September 17 is day 1 of in person school so far. Fx for all good things. So far I feel like our health department has been doing a great job tracking, tracing, and dealing with positive cases in schools. They deal with each case on an individual basis when deciding who has to go into quarantine and it seems to be working well. Right now we have 26 active corona infections that are from people working at or going to school and 19 school classes (out of 9500) are in quarantine. We've been back at school since August 6th. There hasn't been a super spreading incident due to children being back at school and our numbers have remained stable. They shot up at the end of summer holidays due to people coming back from travel and family gatherings but they've never gotten close to our warning criteria of 50 new infections for 100,000 residents. So far it seems like it absolutely made sense for our area to open schools back up and I hope the process goes really well in Portugal!

adelbert I'm pretty hopeful for my boys school. It's in our village so very close by and we've only had 6 cases in the village, more in the broader town/county area, but nothing like Lisbon or the North. And I'm appreciative of how thorough they area being. At least I know they've thought it through! When we got our 2nd case in our village, the village facebook blew up with the 8 old people who use Facebook shaming the young people and telling them to be more careful. It was adorable.

What are class sizes like? hahaha Germany has no money or teachers or space to reduce class sizes so they're totally normal. 28 kids for my 5th grader, 22 for my 2nd grader. Distance isn't really kept in the classroom, just between the grade levels. Masks are worn by all 5th and up, and by teachers in the halls. They do air out the rooms about once an hour for a certain amount of time depending on the temperature and some schools have gotten C02 monitors in addition.

Ontario is a disaster right now re: class sizes. My kindy’s class is set to be ~28 and my grade 1’s 25. No mask requirement for K-4th.

Obviously 0 cases is unreasonable, but keeping the spread down when cases come up is important and that seems to be happening. They also are making sure to incorporate hand washing into the day more as well which honestly would be good even without covid.

I had to drop something off on my friend’s porch and DD cried because she didn’t get to play or say hi to her BFF. Last night we went to our town’s fireworks and she cried because other kids were running around together but we stayed in the car. DS doesn’t seem to mind but DD is having a hard time seeing everyone around us living normal lives while we are still quarantining and being careful.

My kids go back to school in person tomorrow. I have no idea how things will shake out. We have a mask mandate in our city but people are also starting to do things socially and sports start this week too. People are starting to be like "wear a mask and carry on".

Interestingly, we (in the hospital) have been seeing a noticeable decrease in respiratory admissions. Probably because of masks, hand washing, etc. Hopefully that keeps up through the fall!

N.C. has a statewide mask mandate! Inside and outside if you can’t be 6 feet apart. So I have no idea where he would think going somewhere inside with no mask would be acceptable. He’s just one of those people who wants to start a fight about masks. He said he ran into the same issue at a NC Walmart.

This lady posted a blurry selfie - she looks to be mid sixties. and the two comments are both from her. One just typing her own name and the other saying she just took the picture. 😂😂😂 Normally it's just covid and youth orchestra.

blurnette989, that is totally something my grandma, and even some of my aunts would do. Last week when my aunt who lost her house in the hurricane was responding to everyone’s posts on Facebook, instead of commenting them, she shared them all with her comment. I was texting my cousin like your mom needs help with her technology!

I had to explain to my mom why she needed to stop adding "bjs!!😘" To all her Facebook posts (her FB is a mix of Portuguese and Americans). In Portugal Bjs Is short for Beijinhos, which is kisses. And we are a kissing people. Every hello, goodbye and FB comment. 😂😂😂 She did not believe me that her American friend thought she was referring to Blowies.

I told H we had a bit of a break for the summer with school out and warmer weather generally keeping people apart. But I think that's done. For us.

Someone I hate follow on FB had a gathering for her kids birthday last Saturday (9 days ago) and yesterday posted how sick she was with covid like symptoms and was neg for flu, strep and mono.
I don't wish death upon people but I do love a healthy dose of karma.
She's pregnant too. 🤦♀️

I am afraid that H will get into a fight or arrested at some point. He points out when people aren’t wearing masks correctly in the stores and asks them to cover their noses, and I am worried he’ll find someone who wants to fight. I have told him no more going into stores, we’ll just order what we need or order pick up. Also, he needs to stop talking to those people, because someone some time is going to take it worse than they have so far.
My three year old can wear her mask correctly when needed, why do adults such a fucking problem with it?!

I need a way to say "studies show that Covid 19 loves to enter your system thru your nose. so cover your nose with your mask!" and then just walk around with that on a shirt or my mask or something.

I saw someone at work yesterday (I work at a bookstore) whose mask just said “you are too fucking close”. I wish I could wear one at work. Though my favorite mask says “keep Patrick Mahomes safe. Wear a mask.” (I live in KC, so very appropriate.)
