donnameagle, I think it would be so hard to have kids switching back and forth. My kids classes are 50/50 students in seat/virtual. We had to choose until mid Nov.

I will say one positive to virtual school is that my kid wasn’t feeling well this morning so we took some extra time for his Advil to kick in and to eat breakfast. He joined in school an hour late now that he’s feeling better. In real school he would have missed the whole day. Trying to see the positive in every thing!

Apparently virtual learning is not going well. Last night the principal sent an email stating that they knew the county was having connection issues, no, the teacher cannot answer emails in real time as they are teaching simultaneously and they are working on getting things running smoothly. Then he followed that the many parents who inquired about kids switching back to brick and mortar can contact: and he listed the names of the faculty facilitating that. It is day 3 and many who opted for at home are apparently trying to come back. We did not have the option to school at home, and I do feel so bad for the parents who chose this and apparently it's a nightmare... but maybe give it more than three days before completely abandoning the idea? But, everyone has the choice so I get that too. DS's class sizes were small. Looks like that will come to an end. lol. 3 days is just really not giving it a chance. People are so inpatient. these are the ones who didn't have to learn patience as kids and everything at their finger tips and parents at their beck and call, they are now the parents. 😂

I was at Whole Foods yesterday picking up sushi. The employee on the food prep line was behind the counter eating potato chips as she prepared food. Mask down, open containers, food prep etc. And she saw me see her. I was horrified. I definitely went straight to the manager at customer service and pretty sure someone was calling me a Karen somewhere but I couldn't help it. WTF??

This is demanding sanitary conditions from a food preparer. That would be inappropriate on her part outside of covid.

The younger ones had to choose 9 weeks. The principal said the older ones can come back.

But I was definitely aware due to the customer/employee/manager structure and it made me pause.

MH was checking out and the cashier put his fresh baked cookies that were in a small box in the bag. He noticed she was fumbling in and out of the bag and then realized the cookies had fallen out of the container and she was picking them up one by one with her bare fucking hands trying to put them back in the box. He was understandably horrified and said “did they fall out?” She answered yes and then she said “oh you don’t want them” lol he was like uh no you are touching them with your hands! I mean gross in regular times but 100% unacceptable in a GD pandemic. This still gets me when I think what if he never noticed and we bought the touched cookies and ate them 🤢 People are so gross.

yoginikiki @yoginikki ? That’s a hard tag. I was heavily pressured to try VBAC over an RCS for my second daughter. Not by my regular OB - and when he heard he was like “JFC did they read your notes? Obviously not. Idiots.” It’s so enraging when people get prescriptive about what’s “best” rather than focusing on what’s best for this individual. Yell at whoever needs to be yelled at.

I just sent my older two off to in person school. Only half of their classes should be there so hopefully they are able to distance. Even the 4-year-old tried to insist that his brothers not go to school this morning.

It has been a week here. The amount of people who want to switch them to in person is something else. Like, it has been 4 days? Give them a second to figure it all out. And then they are surprised switching isn’t an option and it’s for a whole semester. This was explicitly stated many, many times. How do you not know what you signed up for? There is one lady who has a kindergartner and she is constantly posting about how her child is now behind. Have them practice their ABCs..... it’s kindergarten! It hasn’t even been a week! Can you tell this is annoying me? lol

Our school made it clear that they could not switch until quarter end to go in person if they chose virtual learning. They said it’s too much cross contamination risk at that point and the classrooms are set based on the numbers that opted for in person.

Can you tell this is annoying me? lol I think, that along with the fact that parents are impatient AF, that is had been a LONG time since any of us feel like our kids have gotten a formal education. (177 days was a number I heard being thrown around?). And this feels overwhelming so everyone was READY for their kids to be schooled. And the complaints I am hearing is that learning is not happening with some of the virtual options (the ones that are B&M option, but doing virtual). I know the actual virtual schools (not affiliated with the local schools) are running great. So I have heard of some people trying to switch to that. I get the frustrations, because there was so much build up and excitement for them to get back to it, and the virtual kids in my area just aren't, due to connections issues and basically the platform catering to inschool kids vs at home.
But I agree it will take some time for the kinks to be worked out. But asking for more time, after so much of the already wasted time this year, is likely overwhelming. They do need to have patience though. I have heard from many parents in my area that are just going to send their kids back to the schools that will allow it. The faith that they will get the programs working is low. It is all a mess.
ETA: I agree that the kindergarten parents can simmer a bit, as those lessons can be taught with some ease. I however cannot teach advanced math to my middle schooler and I know my sister is stressing over calculus with one of her kids. She can't help with that either. So I think this would apply to the older kids in the education realm.

Totally get that. Middle and High school are totally different ballgames! I can’t even imagine. I would be so lost! lol It’s an established virtual school independent from the brick and mortar. They have been doing this for years and years. This week is getting to know the platform and how to navigate the modules. We have had practice modules and meetups with teachers. A lot of review. Which is what is happening the the physical schools from what I hear from friends. From looking at what is going to be expected starting next week I’m in no hurry to get there. It’s going to be a lot of work! It’s really the people signing up for this and not even knowing what it entails that is mind boggling. Like they thought it was a 6 week option and then they could switch when it’s a full semester. They didn’t even know the basics of the program they put in charge of their child’s education?

So the Oxford vaccine is starting a trial group here in MN and I submitted my info to see if I qualified. They sent me a message that I did and wanted me to schedule my first appt. So I went to do it and it said there are no available appointments at this time. Must have signed up too late. Darn!

3 day school week and a teacher is positive, her class is being quarantined for two weeks. The teacher had close contact with two other teachers unmasked and those teachers are out two weeks, one is my son’s teacher.
Yay school!

Interesting tidbit, our curve of the 7 day average for COVID deaths state wide is flat. The last day that that average was above 10 was June 11th. Since then, it's ranged from 6 to 10 deaths/day as the 7 day rolling average. I find that really interesting.

Ugh beepers that's maddening! P S. Hi! I live in the state with the highest rates per capita at the moment. I teach in higher ed and am just holding my breath for a announcement to go fully virtual. K-12 started last week here and in the past 7 days I think it said my county went up 407% in active cases.
