ohhh the youths are going to be MAD
ETA: does this mean the youths can't access/buy stuff on those games/platforms, or just that the platforms can't profit from them? Because if it's the former, we need to mobilize every gamer we can find across this country to conduct a voter registration drive amongst their youth and gamer compatriots ASAP. These gamers are rightfully angry and we can help them express that.

I bet he backs off the Tencent thing and they clarify it down to just WeChat. Just like all the other EOs where they clearly haven't thought things through all the way.

These gamers are rightfully angry and we can help them express that. They should still have access to their profiles, but any in-game purchases would be suspended for US players, i think. There are ways around it, but it's a pain in the butt. Basically, they can't boost themselves as effectively as other players in other countries. One of the games I play, people throw thousands of dollars at every month just to be at the top of the totem pole. Not sure if it's owned by one of these companies, though ETA no downloads, but not sure if you already have it? Regardless, it's ridiculous.

I only understand 6 of these words. Talk to me like I'm not a gamer. My guess is they're incompetent. Tencent is the parent company of WeChat but also of a whole bunch of gaming stuff. I think they likely meant to focus on WeChat and not all the games but the EO isn't written clearly. Remember with the travel ban was rolled out and it first seemed like it applied to green card holders and then that got walked back? I feel like this might be the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if they clarified it.

Also, the TikTok ban seems to be a move to force them to sell it off to a US company. So the goal is not really a long-term ban.
There's no way WeChat is getting sold off to an American company so that seems to be more punitive to people in the US who have connections to China as it's really the only messaging app in China. I don't think they're going to long-term ban all those games for people in the US as it would be very unpopular to people Trump cares about.
This is just my take. We'll see!

I wouldn't be surprised if they clarified it. They have holdings in Ubisoft, Blizzard, Epic, etc. A lot of people are going to be pissed they can't make their microtransactions. Call of Duty is one of the properties they have a stake in. So this is going to end well

But seriously. Voter registration drives. Put absentee ballot links and voter registration verification links on every single social media platform. Tonight.

Sorry I am late to reply to this but this is the only thing I agree with Trump on. Through my channels in IT, I have seen evidence of the dark web kind of spying is done by the Tencent apps especially Tic Tok. The faster they are gone, the better. This includes secretly accessing your camera and microphone, bank data from your apps, facial recognition and voice sampling as well as location data from everywhere you go no matter if it is turned off or not or appear to be. It all goes toward the surveillance state they are building as examples by the Xinchang province to control the uiegurs.

I just get around it by not having the app and using TikTok in my browser (I've been reassured that this is safe).

Your browser is there latest thing that they like to manipulate to secretly access files, cameras and microphone u see the guise of being able to use their website as communication.

I was just saying that I doubted that the WH's intention was for the EO to impact gaming and it looks like that's the case.
