I may still end up home schooling for consistency purposes and flexibility anyway so we'll see. 🤷🏻♀️

Sorry work got busy. I do not know where funding is coming from but I am glad it's there. Right now there is no in person school until *at least* after labor day. From my understanding it is the same pods of students everyday but I could be wrong.

No hugs or anything please, but my childhood BFF (and previous Covid conspiracy believer*) lost her aunt and uncle to covid within 24 hours of each other. They were old and not in great health but still active. They had just bought a new house two weeks before getting sick. We were close when I was little and I’m sad I can’t be there for their family. Childhood BFF’s dad (it was his sister and BIL) had been helping them with moving and stuff so it was a huge eye opener for her family how much worse it could have been. I can’t stop thinking about it.
Maybe my home community will wake up a little after being personally touched. Probably not.
*I don’t know if that was her family’s view as well or only her own.

We had a Zoom meet the teacher tonight that was cute.
Tomorrow is the first day of school.

Well after moving the start of school up a week to Monday to assess learning needs from missing last spring, we now have to postpone the first day until at least next Wednesday and possibly longer if the school doesn't get power back soon. We just got our power back around 5 so hopefully they will get to the school area soon. Our school is doing a hybrid so if we don't start Weds it will probably be Fri, and at that point they may as well just start back at the original Aug 24th start date. Tonight was supposed to be back to school night but that's postponed until Monday now.

I personally wouldn't send my child to a center to then introduce 11 new people into the bubble every day. Factoring in their parents. Then they are probably out and about working. It would be too much for me. this is my biggest worry about kids that go every other day to school or m/w/f, t/th how many more people are they around on their days not in school?

I just saw that. I'm happy that it's free and that it will hopefully help working parents feel less stressed about school. I was pleasantly surprised by it. My kid isn't school aged ytt but I know this will be a relief to a lot of people. It also makes me feel better knowing that they are actively trying to alleviate some hardships. Like everyone knows things suck right now but it's good to know they aren't taking it for granted how much of a strain it is for people. My mom and I were talking, and these administrators are choosing between teachers dying and little kids being left home alone all day. And how are people experiencing homelessness supposed to distance learn? It is so hard.

DD1's kindergarten open house would have been yesterday if she was going to school in person. I was bummed about missing it. Then I saw people posting pics where the teachers were right next to students and no masks, and I remembered why we decided on virtual. It was kind of jarring.

It's just such a crappy situation for everyone, but I especially feel for those with untraditional schedules. That is our struggle, and it makes childcare nearly impossible to find in a normal year. We've been lucky enough to get a nanny for this year that we wouldn't have been able to afford on our own. I will more than likely work nights, MH works 10-11 hour days, we work weekends and our schedule changes every week. Neither one of us can work from home. We don't know our schedules in advance. And I have two school age children and two too young for school. I cannot imagine how many exposures we would have through piecemealed childcare, and I am overly sympathetic to anyone else in that position.
Unfortunately I don't see 100% in person learning being realistic. My friend's child was in one of the classes who had a student test positive during the first week and they're quarantining for two weeks already 🤦♀️

Also hawkward the number of elderly couples who are both hospitalized in our area is jarring. Most decided it was fine to go to a large family gathering and contracted it there. I hope it's a wakeup call for people, but I doubt it.

I hope it's a wakeup call for people, but I doubt it. They died in a hospice facility near you. I’m trying not to make assumptions about their behavior over the summer since I wasn’t around them, but it was just under a month since my hometown decided to go ahead and host their county fair...

Our social distancing lake trip has been a sanity saver. We’re cooking, chilling. Just not being in our house for a week has refreshed everyone. And the sunset isn’t too shabby.

I spoke to my DCP yesterday, my kids are going back F2F on the 25th. She is proceeding with the expectation of the schools being shut down shortly after starting. She will be making a space for the kids to do virtual learning and bringing in a para to help them. This relieves a small amount of stress about what we will do if/when the school shuts down.

She didn't go and I was so relieved. There is a local family here that made the news. 18 sick in their family. I think it was a graduation party. An aunt stayed on the porch. One person only dropped off food. All sick. I was trying to find out if the aunt or the drop off person wore masks but I couldn't confirm it either way.

I'm not even one of the most hunkered down these days, and just imagining being around that many people still gives me anxiety. My cousin's gf had another baby shower with 50 people. 50!!! That's the thing though not all the people were at the party. Some of the attendees brought it home to other family who didn't go.

Yes, it sucks that in-person graduation parties or other tied-to-a-specific-time events have to be post-poned or virtual or all these other gymnastics, but the bottom line is this. Most of these events can be post-posted. Most events/activities, etc. in general will all still be waiting for us on the other side of this. The open question is, but will we? Probably should have put in the UO thread but oh well.

I was just told by my boss that the alternative retirement party I was planning for my team member for just my team of 7 at an outdoor restaurant was fine, but I also needed to bring cake and plan a big office wide celebration in the lunch room. When I balked he said We could look into keeping it at 30 people at a time and we wouldn’t invite people from other offices. Our lunch room is small and we don’t believe In Face masks in Sweden. And it willl still be one cake for everyone to share. And probably singing.
I said I didn’t think it was a good idea and I don’t feel comfortable doing it, so someone might help do it but I am going to look bad not being there. HR has no safety policy for numbers and refuses.I could call in the union but their safety manager is on my staff.
I had an interview for a new job today.

My H just got off a meeting where they said they were now planning on WFH until at least June of 2021, possibly even September of 2021. I mean, he's in government IT so there is really no reason to be in office. Plus he works for the largest county in the state and they are bleeding money right now because of all the riots/protests etc and I think being able to work remote is helping them figure out their budget for the next year too.

A friend's mother just invited me to a surprise party, and I told her we were going to decline because we don't feel it's safe.
The mom was completely understanding, but I know I'm gonna get passive aggressive shit from my friend after the fact. She's been a pain in my ass about how strict we're being from almost day one.
I don't really give a fuck what other people do, but I have vulnerable people in my circle that I rely on, and I'm not going to be socializing with people who are out and about all over the place. I'd just like my friends to respect that choice.

I have already declined, because I'm not interested in being around a lot of people, plus I've only met this girl twice, and have only seen my cousin and her son a handful of times over the past few years. But she is having it at my aunt's house. My aunt is severely immuno-compromised and has been ill frequently the past few years. My mom is pissed (it's her sister), and that entire side of the family just doesn't see what the problem is. It just makes me sad.

STP I just booked a long weekend up in the mountains, not right on the lake, but close by, for September. I’m excited to breathe different air for a few days. Distance learning has its perks- we can travel and she can still do her work.
