willow why would they ask people to take masks off? Because Judges can do what they want? Lol idk judges can be unpredictable. One of them is hard of hearing and apparently has been asking people to take masks off when they are testifying or going on the record. I understand the difficulty for him but it makes me very uncomfortable at the idea of being in that courtroom if people are taking masks on and off. Thank God I got my jury duty excused until October. I Really hope I can get dismissed. I can’t believe they would put all those in courtrooms at risk not only being in person, and then to require masks removed?!

Even with the plexiglass and other stuff they are trying to implement, I'm just very uncomfortable with going back. I see no reason when we have been successful with zoom court thus far. None of my cases have been in person yet thankfully. We'll see.

willow Don’t you have microphones? Our tiny town doesn’t have them but when we lived in the suburbs they had microphones on the tables.

One of our germ bubble people said last night he knows someone who had Covid and it was NBD. Cool, but you know H too and it was clearly a big deal, sooo... I told him we were fine with breaking our bubble, no hard feelings, but he said he would keep respecting our boundaries because he knows it’s important to us. I trust him but it left me feeling not great and I think we’re going to have to re-evaluate our stance soon.

Zero fucks about shit being put on hold is literally how I feel about 95% of things in our society / world right now. Idgaf if Halloween is cancelled. Any type of sport. Birthday parties. Concerts. Fairs. Religious meetups. Whatever man. They’re not essential to living. The things I care about that are on hold- are seeing family, spending holidays with family, medical issues people have been ignoring, having money for rent and food. I’m cranky. Yes. My sport is on hold too. Yes, it's unfortunate for those at certain age levels. Welcome to life whiners. Soemtimes shit doesn't go your way. And the sad thing is the loudest complainers are also the bootstrappy crew. Fucking hypocrites. I have a legitimate interest in whether or not college football is played (associated with H's job), and I'm with you here. I will say that it's a huge disappointment to the players (well duh), which sucks. I do feel bad for the ones that really have put their entire livelihoods into this and were counting on making it to the NFL. Maybe it won't make a difference, but who knows at this point.
Like all things surrounding corona, it just sucks.
ETA: I personally don't care about college football - in fact, I'm kind of happy I don't have to deal with it this fall. But, it directly impacts H's job, so I kind of have to pay attention to it.

Yes there are microphones on every counsel table and witness boxes. Ew. We don't have that. Are you guys recorded. I have never been so happy to have the stenographers Our support and custody are recorded but they are mostly closed It depends on the kind of case. If it is strictly expedited process child support hearings with magistrates, we have only electronic monitoring recording. Any other case, with a judge instead of a magistrate, has an in person court reporter manually recording. I should say by microphone I mean the kind that are built into the tables and don’t move. It also depends on county. In the county that I worked as a judges law clerk, we had 100% electronic monitoring where the court reporters were watching/tagging notes on the case from afar. Some judges have in person reporting in that county still but it is a dying profession for sure.

also when you buy the top. There is a 5 foot shelf or a 6 foot or 4 foot. We got the 4 foot. MH felt there was no leg room. My DD is fine with it. If she should want more the top is like $11 and we could swap out. 🤷🏻♀️ May I ask, were you able to find a good deal on the drawers? The video I watched she said she got the drawers for about $30. I can’t find any close to that price.

We didn't want to wait so we bought. They were like 70 a piece for each set of drawers. We still felt like we came under. Also since everyone is buying desks we had no issue finding them. The top was 11 at Home depot. I can send you the specific pic if you would like. One girl glued her top on. DD doesn't want to do that. I'm thinking of using that stuff you can use to stick stuff on cement walls just to keep it from moving. I don't see an issue cause she will just be sitting at it.

We went with the shelf and it had the end finished white. I think for an adult I would get the longer length. Unless you are small. DD is an adult medium and she said the width was fine.

Our city just announced they are opening 22 community centers for full day care for students.
"Twenty-two city-run community centers will provide free all day child care for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. From 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, these community centers will be a safe place for students to do their virtual learning, participate in recreational activities, and receive free meals."
It looks like they will have 10 students to 1 teacher and they are required to wear masks and have a temperature read before entering.

My kid isn't school aged ytt but I know this will be a relief to a lot of people. It also makes me feel better knowing that they are actively trying to alleviate some hardships. Like everyone knows things suck right now but it's good to know they aren't taking it for granted how much of a strain it is for people.

I have no complaints about it and I'm very glad it was available.

Our County really wants to do something like that; but there are no funds to pay for it.

I just got my 8th grader's schedule. It looks like he will be expected to be present online in some way shape or form from 7:50 - 2:30 with a break for lunch. I am not sure if it will be a full lesson or what. He starts in a week

She goes from 8:10 - 3:15 with a 30 minute lunch in between her 6 class periods. Tuesdays and Thursdays they do live classes. The other days they've given them assignments for each class period so if she finishes it early she has that extra time for a break. Obviously it's early on but it's been going pretty well so far.

I personally wouldn't send my child to a center to then introduce 11 new people into the bubble every day. Factoring in their parents. Then they are probably out and about working.
It would be too much for me.

Bubbles of 10 students sound like a practically ideal situation to me. Can we all have that option, please??

Assuming the parents leave the home to work then add their coworkers and so on. That's what I meant.

IDK we have essentially been doing that all along (us plus 3 other families at day care, including DCP's family, all of us with at least one parent that works outside the home), so I guess I am comfortable with it.

IDK, not every family is able to completely keep their kids at home. Nannies are expensive. That program is free. I don't fault anyone for deeming it the best option. Of course there will be some risk, but there will be some level of risk with any form of child care.

Obviously this is very regional and dependent on what resources are available, but our choices here are 100% virtual or 100% in-person with normal class sizes of 25-30. An option of care and schooling with a small group like that would be a huge blessing to us. Standard disclaimer of no judgment here and having to make this choice sucks.

I said it would be too much for me. I would secure childcare and homeschool mine when I got home if I had little ones. I have said that before. That's just too many moving parts for my comfort zone. If I am not getting a teacher and it's just a body. I can do it. Standard disclaimer of I don't care who does what that doesn't affect me.
