R is hybrid and today was her first all virtual day. I have to say, her K teacher has done an amazing job keeping the kids engaged, giving breaks, quiet time for worksheets. Luckily it went from 9-1130 and that's it for the day.

So last night at 10pm we got a posting saying our 1st grader should: 1. If the have tradition Mexican clothing, wear them today 2. Take a cereal box, cut it (no instructions for us on how) and decorate it for today. Maybe we need to talk about appropriate deadlines for assignments....

well...after a lovely day yesterday, M tolerated an hour of zoom this morning and then proceeded to have a 40 minute full on hyperventilating meltdown because she and her sister couldn't agree on a movie to watch while we finished up work. At what age does this not become a thing?
spoiler: no work was done double spoiler: meltdown likely not about movie.

I was wondering if restraint collapse is a thing without actually leaving the house, too. I think it is!

You guys. M is doing her work and one is to write/draw things she loves in a big heart shaped paper.
She drew some things and then asked me from the other room how to spell puzzles.
I looked at it a few mins later and she made the z's backwards and it says pussies right across her paper. I die and hold back laughter.

I also need to really stop spelling things for her. Her school lets them spell as they want but she insists on doing it right at home. But I cannot work when I have to spell things every 15 seconds. Need teacher intervention.

Need teacher intervention. Ask the teacher to provide feedback for her spelling. "How do you think it's spelled? Do your best and your teacher will let you know if it's correct". My brother was like this is K-1 (according to my mom). They were super lax on spelling and because he wasn't corrected, he thought it was correct. My mom had to ask the teacher to correct him so he didn't get confused. It gave him the confidence to try spelling on his own, knowing that it would be checked for correctness.

I just pulled in, 40 mins before the end of the day, and I’m 27th in line. This is insanity.

There’s a big billboard by my house that says such and such GOP candidate will reopen schools. It really pisses me off. The decision should be about numbers of cases, guidelines, ability to follow CDC regulations. Not politics.

Yesterday J did his reading google meet in the car on the way to my dentist appt and I'm about 90% sure he was *not* on mute when I knocked my phone under MH's seat and let out a medium-loud 'fuck!'. Whoops.
I really need to make better word choices when my kids can hear. It is a true miracle that neither of them has let an innappropriate-for-small-children word slip out yet.

When helping H and neighbor kid with their remote learning this morning, I
1) rushed to attach our neighbor’s chronobiology to the WiFi, and struggled to figure out how to use a chromebook, period. 2) rushed the kids to separate rooms because of feedback issues, and then put the neighbor in the kitchen because WiFi was slow, and then H still couldn’t see any video 3) spent 30 minutes helping them each write a letter to their teacher 4) had a second cup of morning coffee, which is very rare.

I am glad that our school has a seemingly well-rounded curriculum for us to follow at home but I still have to hover around J all morning because each "thing" he has to do only takes 15 min and then I have to log him out and back into the next thing and he is always either needing help with something or wants to show me something "really cool", or he rushes through stuff and gets stuff wrong that he knows but doesn't let the instructions finish before picking an answer. Meanwhile M is loud AF, always, so I'm constantly trying to keep her out of his work area and occupied but she also wants to be in sight of me at all times and the only way to get her to chill is to throw the ipad at her but I really don't want her watching ipad every single morning for several hours. She likes to sit next to J and "do work" while he is doing his work but I have to sit there and babysit and make sure they are keeping their hands to themselves and also somewhat instruct M on letters or something or monitor her with scissors and try to keep dry erase marker off her clothing because it is a bitch to get off and OMG MORNINGS ARE CHAOS.
I just needed to vent that somewhere.

A mom in our local FB group posted a question to compile as list of "excuses to give to the school for when she keeps her kids home sick." You know, to avoid getting a doctor's note or getting her kid tested if they have COVID symptoms.

I also like how they assume teachers dont see this crap they post. Word gets around, you are not in a private chat. Or anonymous. They know who your kid(s) are.

One of the K teachers for our neighborhood’s school lives in our neighborhood and is a part of the neighborhood Facebook group. I was *deeply* cringing at some of the posts/comments made by parents in the lead up to school starting. This is all a shit show, but it isn’t the teachers’ fault!

Fuck my sister tested positive. You can probably guess where she works. I can add this to my list of not sending my kids to school in person. I'm just crossing my fingers that she has not been in contact with my elderly parents.
