wedding they know for sure, we’ve never shied away from difficult subjects (my aunt and uncle do that and I hate it so much). My parents are the only other grown ups they’d allowed to hug, they know globally people have gotten really ill and sometimes died, that we need to keep distance, that a lot of things are closed. Dd even told a couple on the streets last week ‘well that’s not 6ft now is it?!’ 😂. But for today I didn’t want to radiate our stress on to them, they’re still so little and had been looking forward to this particular zoo (they have pandas!), so I wanted them to have fun . ETA and both my kids, but especially Ds is a worrier, which makes it a little difficult, but we try and help him deal with his feelings as much as we can.

Cadence says she wants to go to Disneyland the day after quarantine is over. I told her we have to wait for a vaccine. She asked what a vaccine was. I told her. Cue meltdown in the car because she didn't want to get a shot. Girl, relax, you're not getting one TODAY. I think I may have ruined her whole day. LOL

lahdeedah We got a small discount, I want to say it was like $10 cheaper on my monthly bill, but I'm not sure how long that will last. Nothing in the mail that explained it. I think my dad said it was a 20% reduction. I feel like it should be more. I am driving significantly less than I used to. Like, going from 1000+ miles a month to less than 1000 miles in the last 5 months.

We are finally home. I really liked the dr and her nurse, they were very friendly, asked lots of questions, listened to both Evie and I.
There isn't a test that says for certain that it is Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, but all signs lead to that. 1-2 kids out of 1,000 are effected by this. They want to do some additional lab work to rule out celiac disease. But to treat the swelling/pain, they recommend a steriod injection. Which she would have to be sedated for (cue very angry 6 yr old face). The other options are meds, which can lead to stomach issues. The dr said if it was her child, she would try the injection and see how she responds. So that's what I opted for because I don't want the first choice to just be a long term med. I told them to schedule ASAP, which of course they came back and said they could do this Friday.
We were supposed to leave to go to the lake with my family Friday. H thinks I should cancel lake plans and get it over with. I told Evie the decision is hers...the sooner she gets it done, the sooner she feels better. She says she wants to reschedule for next week, she wants to see her cousins and go swimming. I told her to think it over today and decide.
If the injection doesn't work, then we would look at meds. With the injections, some kids never see a flare up again, some kids it comes back within 6 months. There is no set timeline as everyone's body reacts differently.
One of the biggest (and scariest to me) side effects is that this can lead to vision issues. So I need to get her into an eye doctor, and follow up appointments ever 3-6 months, to make sure her pressure in her eyes is normal, otherwise it can lead to blindness. This is what I read when I googled weeks ago and scared the shit out of me. H and I both wore glasses/contact from middle school until we recently had LASIK done, so the chances of her having vision issues are high. So I'll forever be scared about that.

So glad you liked the doctor mwhip, I hope the steroid injection will be effective for her. I agree with you, I’d much rather that than go straight to a long-term med. I’m sorry there are concerns about the long term eye issues. So weird how some of these things are connected. Hopefully she will be lucky and that won’t ever be an issue for her, but at least you’re aware of it and can stay on top of things to prevent any lasting damage.

mwhip sounds scary, but I’m glad you at least got some answers. I get the dilemma, not wanting to wait another week and I’m really not familiar with steroid shots and the side/after affects, but any chance you could do the procedure on Friday and head up one day later?

I get the dilemma, not wanting to wait another week and I’m really not familiar with steroid shots and the side/after affects, but any chance you could do the procedure on Friday and head up one day later? no, once she has the injection, she will need to lay low for a few days, not running, dancing, definitely no swimming in fresh lake water, so if we do it Friday, we would not go. H wants to get it done, she's had an issue for 7 week, sooner we get treatment, the sooner she feels better. I'm like, it's been 7 weeks, let her have fun for the weekend, then get this crap done. What's another few days at this point? From the sounds of my MIL's text messages, she can't understand why I'm giving Evie the option to decide. Um, it's her body, this shit is traumatizing. I'm not giving her the decision on final say, just if she wants to wait a few days. She's a smart child and I think she deserves some of a say in what happens. If MIL says much, I'm going to tell her she waited years for the procedure she recently opted to have done. Or I'll probably just not respond to her and be very short with my answers to her for awhile. What would you all do?

mwhip I would probably call the doctor and explain my dilemma & hope they would have a clear answer either way. If they say delaying is not a big deal, then I’d want to know their first possible date. If not doing it Friday would mean postponing it for three weeks or something then I might opt for this Friday. If they have an opening next Wednesday for example, then what’s a few more days.

I think it's fair to give her the choice mwhip . Is she complaining a lot? Does it get better throughout the day as she moves around (is it worst in the mornings after sleeping all night)? Sorry if you've answered these ?s already. Obviously if this were life/death, then no, you'd skip the lake and have it done ASAP. But if E is comfortable with waiting a few extra days and you can get an appt right when you get back, then I would probably go along with it.

mwhip if they can fit you in next week then I don't see a problem in waiting. If it will be a month or two before the next available, then I would opt to do it this Friday.

nam2013 I talked to the nurse about possibly delaying it and she said it was fine and gave me the number to reschedule if we wanted to. So it's totally our choice. I think I will call and see when they could do it next, to make a good, informed decision, but I need to make that call away from Evie. I got the feeling they would be able to do it next week as well, Friday was just the next available, but I don't want to wait weeks, so that's a good idea. flamingo She complains every morning when she gets out of bed, it's the absolute worst it is all day, I think because she isn't moving it to keep it lose. Once the Naproxen kicks in and she's up and around, she's okay. She doesn't bend it when she walks down our steps, so I know it still bothers her, but she doesn't complain about pain.

I called and they can do the procedure next Wednesday at noon, or Thursday first thing in the AM (she can't eat 12 hours prior, so I want to get it done first thing cause kid gets HANGRY). So if we opt to wait, it would be done next week.

mwhip since the procedure can be done next week, I’d let E wait if that’s what she wants. It’s really none of MIL’s business but you can always lie and say the doctor had to reschedule if you don’t want to be bothered with her opinion. I hope the shot helps and E does not have flare ups but I agree that she should be involved with her own care, especially if this does become an ongoing thing.

mwhip I agree with everyone - if she wants to wait, let her. If it was months, it would be different but it's less than a week.

Demo day is done. They were done around noon. Installation is Wednesday.
Since MH was home today, too, I decided to go ahead and paint the cabinets. He took them all off and helped to wipe them down with the gloss off and I painted. I was able to get most of it done. I just have about half of the cabinet doors to do. I didn’t want to have to because I am so done with painting, but it would easily save me $$$, so paint I will. The guy at Benjamin Moore told me what roller to use for that sprayed look and it looks good. I need to start to look for new knobs and pulls.

My principal announced today that she’s retiring. The other middle school already had a vacancy for principal and they are supposed to be announcing the new person this week. I love my VP’s and one was going for the job at the other school. I’m hoping my principal decided to announce now to give him a chance at the position at our school because I don’t want to lose him. One of the other front runners though is the principal of my kid’s school so it’s going to be interesting to see how it all plays out. My kids have had 3 principals in 18 months so it sucks if they have to get another one in all this craziness.

lahdeedah I am also impressed with your painting skills! I thought about attempting ours when we remodeled but decided I'd make them look like shit and spend more getting them fixed, so I just left them. Here I sit, waiting for golden oak to come back in style!

Why does Texas have to be so hot? My kid just wants to learn how to ride her bike, but I start sweating just thinking about going outside so I can only go out in short increments.
Also, can someone else come teach my kid to ride her bike? She can do it, she's just too up in her head and convinced she's going to fall. So she pedals three or four times and then jerks the handle bars and stops.
