I find out on Tuesday Gs schools plan for September. I then find out on Wednesday what my little guys school is going to do it’s a daycare that also has a DoE 3K in it. They seemed optimistic that they will have some in person schooling but I sort of laughed at the idea of doing virtual learning with 3 year olds.

So, my options for the school year are to stop working and stay home with the 2yo and 5yo doing virtual 1/2 day K or go all in sending them to a center that also does kinder. We really liked the center we toured on Friday, so we are going to place the deposit tomorrow since they only had 2 spots left. There are so many factors influencing our decision and this feels like the best one for us right now but I’m still so nauseous over the whole thing. I’m concerned about throwing money out the window if/when things fall apart but it is what it is, I guess?

We have a dog so he is going to go to puppy camp. We can’t go to anyone because we are still quarantining because my husband is immune compromised. Going to have to sweat it out some more.

My area the past week has picked up on new daily cases. Not a ton, but compared to the less than 5 we have been getting all summer, its a lot. This doesn't make me feel great for school starting 😬

So in my district if you put in for telework you have to still come into the building. I am not a fan of that for multiple reasons. But I know other places are doing it as well.

If you have a good set up at home, why require people to come in? Personally, I’d like to go in so I hope our district gives us the option, but for plenty of people it’s an unnecessary risk. The only thing I can think of is that people want to make sure teachers are working as hard as they think we should 😒

Eta: we are an area with very low positives and it is a fairly rural area and internet isn’t always the best (possibly those were points of consideration for our district)

teraiin, Our district doesn't have smart boards or anything. Actually my home wifi is WAY better than the school wifi--especially when everyone streaming at the same time. I fully think this is to make sure teachers are working and they don't trust us. Or to appease the tax payers. I think if it is a choice it is fine. But, I don't like given no option. I mean some of my friends that teach are super high risk, so even though YES they are in the classroom with no one there, we aren't allowed microwaves/minifridges in the classroom--so we would have to use the staff room, you'd have to use the bathroom and just seeing people increases the risk of exposure. It is frustrating.

Yup that’s why I said I can’t speak for all areas. just wanted tornxplain the rationale our district is giving for why teachers who are soonfbthe distance learning need to be on site.

I feel so broken, still no power, wires across the road. Then yesterday I had the brilliant idea to reorganize the bathroom cabinets and I set the contents of the cabinets on the floor as I was doing it. In a matter of seconds my 2 year old had opened a bottle of sleeping pills and crushed some of them in her mouth. She is ok after 6 hours of being observed in the ER and being given charcoal. I feel so terrible. Why didn’t I carry the contents of the cabinet somewhere she couldn’t reach them to organize? How did she get the lid off, did I not properly close it last time I took one? I just can’t stop thinking about how she could have died. I am a freaking mess over here.

Mistakes happen. Stop beating yourself up. This one error has nothing to do with you as a mother. Know better, do better. Edit: and I am sorry

Where in the building(s) would you be working from? That seems odd if school is happening around you. Isn't the point of offering telework to teachers in districts doing hybrid so that you're less at risk? I would think if you had to work out of the building while it's full of kids all day you're not really lowering you're risk.

I always set stuff on the ground when I clean out the bathroom, so know it's not just you.

You learned a better way to do it now and your little one is fine. Don’t beat yourself up about it.

I am so nervous about my town hall meeting tomorrow. I find out what happens with G and school schedules tomorrow. I really hope it’s something reasonable.

In our district the teachers are coming in but the building is empty except for them. (Exception being the elementary teachers on days when the kids have cohorts I guess. But for secondary the building is entirely empty except teachers.)

I bought a planner so I can write down what days which kid has school. They are going to different schools so it’s going to be a bit confusing I think.

The twins were approved for preschool and I had assumed that all three would be going together but the state asked them to stagger the start time (the twins are half day until they adjust) in order to reduce the number of kids coming in at one time. So now their start times are half an hour apart 😂 which isn’t a HUGE deal but could become confusing I think if I don’t keep track of who goes at which start time lol

cnfI have no clue. I am a librarian so in the library. But they are converting the library to extra classrooms. So if I get approved to telework I have no clue. Because kids will be in the building Monday-Thursday. If I don’t get approved I push into classrooms. And travel to 3 different schools a week. So neither choice is ideal.

(yes i KNOW preschools/daycares/etc. have a lot to consider, but this should actually make it easier.)

Big brother has to go at an earlier time, but the twins can go together. But I was still a little 🤷🏻♀️ Since we are all from the same family so theoretically it seems like It would be better to have 3 slots for the same family but I also don’t envy them having to do this organization haha.

STILL. maybe they max out at two kids per drop off something? but sibs should absolutely be able to get in together.

That must have been so scary. You are a good parent. This is the sort of thing that could happen to any of us - I know it’s not something I would have anticipated. Please release the guilt you are feeling. She’s okay, she’s got a loving mom who got her medical care right away, and you will take precautions to make sure it never happens again. ((Hugs))
