Is anyone else concerned about colleges opening for in person? We already know that young people suck at this so it feels crazy to put them all in the same place. It's not like they will only stay on campus and be in a bubble. I know some have plans to test every 2 days but how do they enforce that? It just sounds like a recipe for disaster. Yes. H works for largest university in our region and we're basically bracing for the fallout. Not only is this age group disgusting and bad at following rules, but they're coming from all over the country and the world. It's going to be a disaster if colleges can't keep a tight leash, which is basically asking for a miracle to happen. I think all SUNY schools are just leaving it up to the honor system and I’m just bracing for that.

I am so happy for you NY people. However in NJ I am not optimistic.
In our area at least 2-3 camps that i know have been shut down. Kids are at huge house parties, parent led proms, etc. I swear everyone in my area thinks it is a huge hoax. Our transmission rate is still above 1. It makes me want to cry.
Like summer hit and no one cares anymore. Even if schools do open I give it a week in my area.
It is so frustrating. We were doing so well and now we are screwing it up.

There are soooo many colleges here and I can’t help but fear them driving our numbers and more and more sick people.

And with that announcement we got DD1'S cohort assignment. She'll be going M/Th and be virtual the rest the week. I'm going to get MIL to try and come out once a week to help with one of her virtual days to try and take some of the load off of me. Or she can field the baby and DD2 while I school, whichever. Apparently we aren't getting teacher assignments until the end of the month. But at least I can ask around and find out if she has friends going the same cohort days. Sounds like we won't know her virtual day time schedule until we know who her teacher is since their plan allows for teacher flexibility when it comes to synchronous vs asynchronous scheduling. We got Monday/Thursday as well which I am taking as a win because I have care for Fridays. Now we just need to figure out Tuesday/Wednesday...Im also wondering if I need to buy 2 laptops for them to use?

Our school is split into M/T and every other Wed or Th/F and every other Wednesday 4 hours in person, with the in person afternoons and other days remote. So basically 20 hours every 2 weeks in person.
This was released over the weekend and everyone was scrambling, talking about pods for the virtual days, etc. Today, the aftercare I usually use released plans to help for afternoons and virtual days, with small pods, etc. For the first time in weeks, I am feeling like this might actually work.
But I am afraid it will get shut down before it all begins and then what?

It's district size but it's also something to due with how they're funded a bit differently. I forget exactly what it was though, at one point I knew having worked in two of those districts.

We got more information on distance learning today. It was a Zoom call...and all the parents on the call had the exact same expression. Defeated.
The teachers and the principal are trying their best. But there is still so many “yeah, TBD on that...” responses to questions.

So the thing about NY and schools is that Cuomo said we *can* have in-person school. But districts all still have to submit their plans for approval. Everything may have already happened with submission and approval for lots of non-NYC districts. I really don’t know the specifics there. But for NYC, everything is still a hypothetical. Nothing has been approved. School is supposed to start in about one month and we still really have no info as to what it will look like. It sucks. I just need some solid info so I can plan!

No plans here have been approved yet. I suspect ours will not be unless they fix an issue with transportation- they are splitting the elementary into K-3 in home schools, 4-6 in the middle school, but they will be commingled on the bus. From a risk mitigation standpoint, this is a big no. While masks and one child per seat will be done, you still have two groups mixing when they shouldn’t be, thereby increasing risks of exposure.

It's making me a little nuts, and I feel like the mayor will be like, "just kidding, it's remote" September 9th. I'd love a retired grandparent in the wings that could monitor homeschooling. My MIL lives in Seattle, was a teacher for years, and is doing that for her other grandkids, and I... should move.

I think Cuomo knows nyc is a cluster, but if he said that he'd have more people with $$$ leave the state.

My district in Ma is staying strong with the choice of hybrid or full remote. They’re reasoning for one week on one week off is so there’s 9 days (two weekends and the week) between when the leave and come back so that is time to monitor for symptoms. They felt the two days a week thing didn’t make sense for symptoms monitoring etc.
They assessed and said it can’t be done safely full in person and I’m very pleased they are making safety the top priority. They’ve been working on it since spring, they have a group focused on it since then, teachers and admins etc. I’m very satisfied.

And also out governor today said that phase four is on hold indefinitely, and he reduced outdoor gatherings from 100 down to 50.
So he’s definitely trying to stop the very slight uptick we are seeing. Still doing very well overall though.

Same, our district said they can't do everyone back 5 days a week which I'm fine with. I'm also fine with Baker scaling things back since the numbers are going up slowly. Now it's just a wait & see between hybrid or full remote. They keep asking parents for their opinion of what they want before they vote which is nice.

Got my nose swab! It wasn't too bad and they had a really efficient set up. I am also feeling a bit better for the first time, which is nice. I logically knew how shitty I was feeling, but now that it's even a fraction better I'm really blown away at how awful it was. Whatever it is, covid or not, is hell. I hope it's not rona and that you feel much better soon!

Well I just realized one plus to only going 2 days a week in person. No packed lunches! They'll just eat breakfast and lunch both of those days at school 🤣

An R.I. politician is having a pig roast political rally, and she’s bragging about how she is going to call it a protest to get around the numbers allowed for gatherings. Because apparently it’s hypocritical for the governor to put any restrictions on social gatherings when BLM protests are allowed.
Where. To. Even. Start.
