My province is in the middle of announcing their plans for the school year. So far, it's elementary back full time in person and secondary going part-time in cohorts of 15 kids, other half of time doing synchronous online learning. Masking required for all kids over 4th grade and PPE provided for all educators and staff. Increasing funding to mental health supports as well which is good to hear. Rapid response medical plans for testing but not a lot of details shared on that so far.

My mom tried to say she doesn’t know if Corona is real and i quickly handed her ass back to her with facts. My grandpa lives at her house and watched Fox News nonstop so I feel like she’s being brainwashed.

I’m ruminating on this 24-7 and I feel that we need to pressure the govt to enforce job protection and unlimited paid sick days if we actually want parents to keep symptomatic kids home. IDK. *poof*

Our district approved our Superintendents proposed plan. I only have a pre-k kid, and we already had decided to unenroll her, but I like the districts plan and think it would work for most people.

Our state's plan is letting districts decide. So...now we wait again.
ETA: it seems like there will be county-by-county guidance?

Our state's plan is letting districts decide. So...now we wait again. Our state has done this since the start.
Which here it makes more sense, we have 3 counties with zero cases, they are remote/rural and very little reason to keep those kids home and honestly little access to internet, even if they have a clear view of the southern sky. Where I'm in the largest district with massive community spread.
We are supposed to start 8/27 as if we're in green (no spread). there is a board meeting Monday and hopefully they'll pull their heads out.

Yeah, I like the nuance and flexibility but I'm confused as to when we'll actually know what we're doing. Like how long are we going to wait to see what the data says? My brain is on the fritz.

with so many parents who are feeding off misinformation, I think they are apprehensive about laying down a clear directive they cant back out of. (at least here) There are two very vocal groups and they don't want to piss off either. So in the meantime the kids suffer.

It's based on a 14-day average of cases per capita but schools can err on the side of virtual learning. So I'll wait for the district but they can't at this time go in-person so I'm going to guess they'll need to just make a decision for planning reasons and go virtual.

I just read on Twitter (so not reliable) that our city’s R rate is now 1.3 and if this continues we’ll have Florida levels in 8 weeks.
COOL COOL COOL GREAT WORK EVERYONE

They are both in high school and they transitioned really easily to the distance learning for the spring. I think for that age group it makes the most sense. They already have school issued tablets. Plus, I of course would prefer to not have all those germs brought home. Meanwhile, on the other side of the river, Evers just announced an emergency order requiring masks anywhere indoors in Wisconsin. Wonder if the GOP will sue him again?

Tlex, we are! Hey hello! and OMG to that story. I think we're all going to need a balance of policy, common sense and looking out for each other...though I know that can be a struggle for humans in large groups to enact. I like the idea of job protection and unlimited sick days. Ford talked about 500 nurses being hired to support as needed in response to outbreaks etc. Which doesn't quite seem like enough for the entire province. I hope that they are ready to rapidly update policies in response to how this plays out starting September.

Also, a coworker in Sibley county has already gotten the phone call/voicemail/email that they will be starting school on X day and it will be in-person. So I don't know if even the schools know what date they have to make that choice.

My young friend that has it has been dealing cardio side effects from it and I've been spiraling on it. It's not good. Her heart rate will jump to 180 from walking downstairs and then drop to mid 40s when she lays down. She's only 27 and is really scared for the heart damage she may have from this. I saw a story yesterday about a Red Sox pitcher who had it, is technically over it, but can't throw more than 20 pitches without starting to have problems. It's terrifying what we don't know about the long-term effects of this. This is why if I was a professional athlete I don't think I would play this season. If you catch it and have long term health effects your career could be over.

You guys. YOU GUYS...kids are transferring from all over the country to high schools in our stupid state so they can fucking play football since we have no rules and think a fall football season is fine. What in the actual fuck? I'd love to say I am surprised but very little surprises me anymore. I'm so sorry. I'm sure some of those on the border of IA and IL are definitely going to move over after Pritzker announced they could have no contact practices only. Yesterday, IL announced football would be moved to a March/April sport, but the odds of it still being cancelled are of course high, but at least they are saying there's a chance. The only sports starting in August are cross-country, golf, & swimming/diving. The rest were all moved all around.

Almost 8 weeks of when symptoms started my friend finally got a negative test! She still feels pretty miserable but is so relieved she is finally cleared to see a neurologist and cardiologist and get the tests done that she needs to see what is going on with her symptoms.

I already knew we'd be canceling our trip home to DC for Thanksgiving this year, but thinking that we would not be *allowed* to go is pretty jarring. We've cancelled all trips this year, which means we haven't seen my family. In November it will be an entire year since we've seen them. I'm pretty upset by that. I've never gone that long without seeing my mom. I'm sorry 😔 I feel you there. Same. I have no clue when I’ll see my family again (parents in FL, sister in CA) And then there’s DHs mom who won’t change her tentative plans to go to OH to come see us after he is off for 10 days from the hospital to see DS for what May be the only time for the next year, until DHs next vacation time, because her stepdaughter is having reflux issues and they haven’t seen them since June! Except we haven’t seen them since February! 🙄
