Thank you for saying this. A few of M’s choices he brought home from school I was like- why a book about snakes, Pokémon, etc. I didn’t realize that may have a very negative effect for him. I will be like you and zip my lip about whatever he chooses to read about.

M is pretty good reading wise, but I do have to remember to tell him to read because he won’t just do it on his own. He loves to write, so I would have thought that goes along with reading, but nope. Not yet. I’m going to take him to the library Friday so we can pick out some books for the next week.

Also wedding, M still writes a number of letters backwards. It may be because he is a lefty, but I am still meh on it now. I have noticed that when his teacher sent worksheets back home, she corrected the letter in red pen, but I still never pushed the issue. I guess maybe I can have him do letter tracing worksheets on those particular letters throughout the summer.

B has also brought home some...interesting stuff, lol. He prefers non-fiction so we’ve read books on everything from the Indianapolis Colts (true story 😂) to sharks to Army Special Forces.

All I ask is that they’re ‘readable’...once he brought home a Star Wars LEGO comic(?)-type thing and I don’t love stuff like that for bedtime reading.

It’s hard not to, but I try and leave things out that I think she might like, but probably wouldn’t choose. She picked up my Better Homes and Gardens today and read some
article about types of stone (I guess it was about redoing your kitchen).

ETA: Josie also writes some numbers backwards (mostly the 6 and even the letter J) — I also think it’s bc she’s a lefty. Her teacher does not correct it. In fact, I’ve never seen her ever comment on Josie’s work with pen or pencil.

S is not a lefty. He still gets his b and d confused. And has trouble with the #2 for some reason. I think all that is totally normal at this age.

guster B is also a lefty and occasionally makes the lowercase D in his name backwards, as well as 6’s.

ETA: VA schools (or at least our district) taught the DeNealian (sp?) method of handwriting, which is supposed to prepare them for cursive. I do think that helped keep the letters straight for B.

Colin was still writing a few of his numbers backwards at the start of 1st grade. I hadn't really noticed but that stopped at some point. I assume that's pretty normal.

The letter S was my favorite when Josie was learning to write. She would always say it was “ a tricky letter,” but last year her teacher got her to figure out how to do it by doing a correct C top of a backwards C.

Anyone with younger kids try the Homer app, I have Julia doing her ‘homework’ and part of it is tracing letters on the ipad screen, there are so many great activities for preschoolers.

Agreed on trying to not comment on book selection. J is really into the dogman comics and even though I dont particularly care for them, I am picking up the 4th book at target tomorrow. I also order the first captain underpants book from Amazon to see if he likes that, and if he does I may get the box set from Costco. I ordered a magic treehouse chapter book about baseball but he has no interest in that, it may be too intimidating without pictures. I wish we could go to the library to pick things out...

He also still writes a few letters backwards. I am trying to figure out how we will keep up with school work over the summer so he has something to do, he gets bored and annoying.

I got a message from my OB that my GBS test is negative. I am so glad I don’t have to deal with those dumb antibiotic IVs this time around.

The girls are in the bath right now and I asked H if she wanted to use her bath bomb. She said yes and then 5 minutes later I heard her crying. She was upset because she wants to save it now. I told her we could get another one but that didn’t seem to make anything better. Kids, I tell ya.

Hugs kim22, I hope the appt. went well and that he starts feeling better soon. I think this spring has been so tough for a lot of kids.

Thanks ladies, this session was actually me and MH talking with his therapist. He’s been having regular calls with her but had a bad panic attack after a recent one. He spoke with her earlier today to give her permission on what she could and couldn’t share with us. I think tonight went well and we have some ideas on where to go from here.

After the kids went down I went outside, at about 8:15pm, to mow the lawn and do the outside work. Had everything ready and started, it usually takes about an 1-1.5hrs to do everything.

I started with the front, doing line by line and by the third strip a couple of my neighbours, came with their mowers, blowers and weed whackers to get it all done! It took probably less than 30 min and it was all done and cleaned up.
I took them a cold beer and we had a good chat for a good hour, what a great evening. I ❤️ those ladies.
