My kids were HORRIFIED by home alone. They're not big on live action movies, so I've mostly just shown classic Disney. I watched Mighty Ducks with DS1 when he was starting hockey. There's some adult stuff in that, but not bad. It took us about 4 nights to fully watch it though. He was pretty bored.

I just made a huge list of movies. I'm gonna let my kid pour over it and research them and pick one every few nights.

My kid learned the “Tequila” song from Sandlot when he was two, so I might not be the best judge of age appropriate.

Definitely not Back to the Future. I still love it but there are so many inappropriate scenes. They would probably go over a young kid's head, but. Also lots of swearing.
DD is not a movie person really. I showed her Honey I Shrunk the Kids the other day. She was very ambivalent to it. She was only in it for the junk food popcorn. Newsies was a fail. I still want to show her The Mighty Ducks and Home Alone.

I think Heavyweights is prob age appropriate but I'm guessing its not PC anymore. My kids and I watched it recently and we all loved it. Honestly all the movies from back then aren't totally PC but this wasn't worse than that.

Small soldiers was an accidental hit. Youngest Son likes movies he can randomly quote (autism) So we sometimes hear I hope we dont hit an iceburg from that movie.

What streaming service are you finding all of these on? It is a mixture between amazon prime, hulu and netflix for us. I also have showtime, Starz, and HBO.

I yearn for the day DD wants to watch anything but that fucking Barbie Video Hero movie on Netflix.
I keep trying.
Oh man, I put James and the Giant Peach on a while ago and forgot how dark that one is. Whoops.

Not mentioned yet: Flight of the Navigator and Cloak and Dagger. And if you go back to the 1960s/70s, all of the Herbie movies and Haley Mills Disney films.

I want to share sooooo many of these but I can’t get DD (6) to sit that long. She’s a tv show girl. She also knows it about herself, which is good, but makes me sad when I’m trying to convince her to watch Homeward Bound!

The Princess Bride All of the Star Wars DS is really into Monty Python and thinks the Holy Grail is hilarious. Then add Spaceballs to his list.

H and I are both super excited for when our oldest is old enough to see the best/worst of 80/90s action. Movies like Demolition Man, Die Hard, Predator, Running Man... they're all so violent and often times pretty inappropriate so I know we still have to wait a bit but those are the movies I really can't wait to share with them.
One of my best friends and I used to watch action movies together every weekend that we rented and I associate them with so many good memories. Which is kind of weird.😂

I adored the Herbie movies when I was a kid. I have a baby picture somewhere in which I am a dead ringer for Buddy Hacket. Seriously. I need to get up in to my attic and dig it out.

My youngest is 7 oldest is 14.
7 year old mostly likes the cartoonish movies like Aladdin, The Lion King, The Muppets Christmas Carol, Casper.
Gremlins was not great for the 7 year old. It scared him a bit, and I forgot some of the plot, which was a bit mature for him.14 year old loved it and Karate Kid and all the baseball movies (Sandlot, Angels in Outfield, Field of Dreams, Rookie of the Year)
Strangely enough they both like Newhart.
The 14 year old also liked the older super hero movies like Spider-Man and the Batman movies fro the 80s/90s. Now he’s binging all the Arrow and the Flash TV shows. I am hoping he likes Empire Records.

We watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but we definitely skipped the creepy tunnel part. I still hate that part.

Also The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins with Julie Andrews. Whoever mentioned Drop Dead Fred - might be one of my favorite movies ever. When my 4 year old grand daughter stays over night (sniff sniff will that ever happen again??) we watch the first half of The Sound of Music, until the intermission. All the best songs are in the beginning, the second half would be too scary and confusing for her. Here's a couple more: Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella Once Upon a Mattress with Tracey Ullman and Carol Burnett

DD (7) and I watched Princess Bride the other day and I was a little nervous about the ROUS scene because I remember being scared.
And she was dying laughing at it because it's "a weird man in a rat costume."
Kids these days.
