What 80s or 90s movies have you shared with your kids (helpful to remind of ages for context) that they enjoyed?
What have been flops?
What were surprisingly more adult than you remembered?

DS is 7.
Movies we have done that have been well received (and we felt they held up): Home Alone Big Honey I Shrunk the Kids
Movies my kid likes but I don’t wanna watch: Little Rascals (spoiler: there is a trump cameo)
Movies that flopped: Mrs Doubtfire (H and I still love it but the kid was unimpressed)

Tiny warning with Back to the Future.TW:
There is that sexual assault scene with Marty’s mom in the car, just as an FYI.

The only moves we could get my oldest to sit through for years were the 80/90s. He’d wander away from a modern blockbuster cartoon but was silent for Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters 1 and 2 Harry and the Hendersons Honey I Shrunk the Kids Short Circuit-didn’t age the best with sexist comments The Goonies ...I know there are tons more I’m blanking one right now

That’s a blast from the past. We tried to get my friends son to watch Goonies when he was maybe 10 or 12 and he told us it was lame.

Drop Dead Fred was more adult than I remembered as a kid. I had it in my mind that it was a kid movie and then we tried to watch it with our kids and there was some pearl clutching.

My kid watched parts of The Goonies with MH recently. He’s 5 as of yesterday so he’s just got QUESTIONS but he seemed to like it. Right now he’s all in on Star Wars. Like needs an intervention and I’m making light sabres out of pool noodles.

That’s a Christmas time one for us but my kid thought it was the greatest thing on earth and watched it every day for a week straight. I kept having to tell him, “this is all fiction kid, if you hit a real person In the head with a brick from 3 stories up it will kill them!”

man my older kid is SO FREAKING SENSITIVE
he would have nightmares about Honey I Shrunk the kids or even Home Alone. He's 4.5 but just really sensitive. so Space Jam is speaking to me, but IDK about the "scary" (not actually scary) aliens.

My boys (10 and 7) love Goodburger and Napoleon Dynamite. Also Ghostbusters. They enjoyed Honey I Shrunk the Kids.
They really liked the new Addams family movie so I bet they'd like the old one

We had to mostly stick with cartoon movies before that and weird things would set him off. Like he hated Cars when he was little because of the loud race noises in the beginning. We do a lot of reminders that it’s make believe, etc. But I think most of it is just age and getting able to “handle” it in perspective. We watched the second Harry Potter movie and he decided it was too scary and he didn’t want to listen to the book (we watched the first one and then listened to the book), so he’s also just more self aware of what he can handle now which helps.

My kids like me don't mind if movies are a little spooky, they're currently almost 7 and 4. But I showed K Ghostbusters when she was 4, and she loved it. It remains a fave.
They loved Home Alone 1 and 2
Next up is my childhood faves Little Giants and Mrs. Doubtfire. Honestly, all the 90s Robin Williams stuff will be shown. 🤷🏿♀️

The combine chasing McQueen in the field in Cars used to send DS1 screaming out of the room. He was also flat out TERRIFIED of Snuffalufagus from Sesame Street until he was almost 5. ...but loved Ghostbusters at 3, kids odd sometimes
