klong11, everyone at my job who was not laid off or furloughed had to take a 10% cut as well It stinks but I am happy to still be employed wedding, are the zoom meetings mandatory? We have daily google classroom meets and I have noticed a few kids do not attend. It might just not be for C. And honestly, boo to his teacher for addressing it this way. They are 5 & 6 year olds, and this is so tough for them. S has a stellar attentions span, and even he is struggling. I'm sorry his teacher does not get that. Yes they are. We did get the ok to skip specials like PE, library, art etc but he still needs to do the work. So a minimum of two zoom meetings a day plus about 5 assignments. I’ve been weeding out the assignments and completing some of them myself if they are really dumb.

wedding that is an insane amount for any 6yo, most kids would find that very hard! I’m sorry you have to deal with this.

I do all the cutting and I've set up a whole area so everything is at my fingertips and I save time not tracking down supplies. The other kindergarten teacher did all the video lessons since she's younger and more tech savvy. But some of her videos are 30 minutes! I jump through them and pause on the actual lesson part, we talk through it and done. Neither of us have the patience for her for 30 minutes lol.

They go around the room and the teacher asks a question (favorite fruit, etc), and that's about it.

my gosh reading all of what you guys are saying I am so thankful for my school. The lessons are pretty simple and quick and then there's a bunch of extra/optional things you can do. Only if you want.
So like reading - watch a video lesson from the teacher - usually 5-6 minutes. Then maybe read something relating to it (today's lesson was preview a book - so look at a book and tell what you think might happen without reading it first) Then pick a book and read for 10 minutes. Optional lesson is listen to the teacher read a story and answer a question about it.

Yes, some of our videos are 20+min and half of it is review of letter sounds and such. SKIP! M knows his letter sounds, no need to review. On to the new material.

We're going 4 days/week right now (Monday is for optional activities). Teacher posts a morning greeting video. One zoom meeting a week, 20-30 min. Each day we do some reading (we can record via Raz, Seesaw, etc), write a couple sentences, and do a phonemics exercise (those are verbal and take maybe 3 minutes). There are various options for math...the kids can play math games via online program, work on word problems, play games like Sorry, Uno, etc. We have optional weekly activities with the librarian, guidance counselor and other specials. Next week we start 4th quarter. Things are changing a bit in that there will be some short 'lessons' via video, etc. but everything is still going to be at our own pace--doesn't have to be completed 'live' or during school hours.

Cass' video lessons are all optional and stuff like the YouTube videos she would watch in school which she likes because they're mostly just short songs. For her Google Meet is solely for social facetime.
Maddie (2nd grade) has some video math lessons that accompany her assignments. They are about 15 minutes long and she hates them because they are very basic. So I've told her if she can do the assignment without watching the video then she can skip it. She also had videos that read stories to her (she could read herself if the wants) for reading comp and a science video or two but these are usually less than 10 minutes each. Her once weekly Meet is 90% social and 10% check on learning which she loves because it's done in small groups (4-5 kids).
More than 1 online lesson a day is overkill for a kindergartener.

This feels pretty similar to where we are. One mini paragraph writing assignment from a paired scholastic reading, 2-3 seesaw or freckle math activities, 2-3 seesaw or freckle ela activates, and ten minutes reading on Raz. IXL math is optional but we do it bc Josie likes it. Assignments from all specials (but those are shorties and kinda fun) Online meetings are few and far between, and only last 15 minutes. We are able to do everything with a couple of short breaks in about 90 minutes to 2 hours.
