The other day when people were talking about Target, it's Costco that I think someday when this is all over with, I'll rush in and dance around like Maria on the hillsides of The Sound of Music. I miss me some Costco. TFFC: Even though you are allowed as many samples as you want, MH and I have a code in Costco. We say "I think you'll like this," to each other if we know it's something one of us would normally pass on but want them to get an extra so the asker can get a double sample. I didn’t realize you could have as many samples as you want. I would never grab multiples for me, but interesting. When M2 was 1, I used to love going around 11-1130 and feed him all the samples. It was his lunch. 😂😂😂 burritos, cheese, ham, chicken. Gobble it up baby boy, free lunch!

Looks like the teachers are giving us wiggle room. I realized yesterday that Friday we don’t have a language or math lesson, just a read aloud and it says to finish the optional science resources. We’ve been pretty good at keeping up. I will say we haven’t been reviewing sight words. They were giving us a couple new ones every week, but whatevs. I think I will just make sure we get around to those this summer after we finish with the required daily stuff.
I got an email last night from a mom saying she inquired with his teacher about another zoom meet for the kids and apparently the teachers aren’t allowed to host a meeting per district rules. They can participate if hosted by someone else, so the mom has a meeting set up for Monday evening for our class.

Madison is so lazy at writing assignments. Exact same at the time she spends pissing and moaning about it she could have written a novel. 😒😒😒

I have a really bad headache and want to just do nothing. But that’s not an option today. I’m struggling to stay somewhat productive.

T complains about the drawing pictures part of kindergarten. He has to list animals and draw a picture of each. It took forever because he didn’t like his drawings. lahdeedah we are banned from using Zoom with students because somewhere in it there is a must be 18 or over statement. We can use Google Meets tied to our Google Classroom but we have to make sure all the kids log out and we deactivate the link when we are done so the kids can’t be on alone. T’s class had a meet and their 2 fifth grade patrols came and ran a guess the riddle game. The kids were so excited.

I just received a message from M's teacher that she is moving up to teach 1st grade next year and the class will stay together. If we'd like to request a different teacher, we can email the principal.

C's teacher had a ZOOM meeting this morning to address his behavior in "class". He is basically a distraction and doesn't listen or participate. He hardly listened in that! I'm not sure what else to do. We have done rewards, punishment, plead to his rational side, made shit sound fun... He just hates online learning.

tgrimes, the first time I checked my cloud it was backing up and saving all of my text messages. I cleared them out and shut that function off on my phone. It cleared up a lot of space.

I was kinda hoping they would let the class stay together going into the next school year. I really want M and his best bud to be together again next year. I like M’s teacher, but even if they have a different teacher, it would be nice and easy for the whole class to be together again.

Yeah I wonder about that, too. Based off the GD thread, schools are starting to come up with contingency plans for Fall. I guess I should have known this because I knew MH’s athletic dept. were putting together plans for different start dates in the fall as far as sports are concerned.

This is not directed at you, but if this actually happens, are we supposed to quit are jobs in order to make this happen? Or do schools just assume we’ll all be laid off by that time anyway so it won’t matter? Insert Kristen bell laugh/crying gif here.

This is one reason why I'm sincerely hoping that governors push for employers to continue to allow people to work from home who are able to. What the hell are we supposed to do with our kids otherwise?

I have removed every item from my cabinets, wiped them out and reorganized. And same for my fridge and freezer. Tonight after the kids are out I'm going to sweep and mop the floors.

I think I'd consider addressing with the teacher that this modality doesn't work for him. Perhaps he could do one Zoom check-in a week but otherwise do some online apps, worksheets, learning exercises and then present about what he learned, etc. What the teacher is expecting of kindergarteners is extreme. I'm an adult and I'd struggle with daily Zoom lessons. Plus I can't imagine most of the kids are getting much from that modality. It's not the same as being in the classroom. Kindergarteners are meant to move around a lot and sit and listen time should only be in short bursts. I'm sorry it's been a struggle.

Oh I really think things will have to be real bad here for them to not start back in the fall. I have every hope that they will be in the classroom by fall. Now do I think they will have football starting in August... I would say it is unlikely.

I get the feeling the Costco sample people have to stay until their product is gone. The cookie people or others with good items are always gone before the people in the weird section. Our Costco has one sample booth I almost always skip. It's usually something weird like odd canned veggies, some gross soup, seaweed, or hemp hearts. I feel for that sample person.

How will parents go to work if they have kids not in school?

I think it’s unreasonable for them to expect ever child to successfully navigate this format. Requesting an alternate delivery method seems fair.

I cannot do anymore home schooling after this. They better open up regularly in the fall. Our peak is supposed to be mid June so that’s plenty of time for things to go back to normal.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I think schools will proceed normally in the fall. If this thing is going to stick around that long (God forbid ), then our society will have to learn to live with it...we literally just cannot keep everyone home forever. There will likely have to be options rolled out for kids who have preexisting conditions or other reasons why they cannot be in school--FL has a pretty robust virtual school program normally so I could see more people taking advantage of things like that, for example.

Growing up, my elementary school mostly kept classes 'intact' each year...granted it was a private school with 3 classes of 20 in each grade, and you didn't have tons of kids moving in and out each year, so easier than a large public school.
I can see why teachers would not want to move up a grade, though...there's such an overhaul in terms of classroom materials, lesson planning, etc. that has to happen.
