If you’re looking for ways to help, most military bases are collecting items for Afghan refugees this weekend. If there’s no base near you, I’m sure other community organizations are collecting as well.
Items needed: Diapers, wipes, formula Travel-sized hygiene products Packaged snacks (protein bars, etc) Toys that have just one piece (balls, dolls) Children’s clothing

S has been to a whopping 3 days of preschool while I teach (thursday, tuesday, thursday). That's all it took for him to be running a 102 degree fever with a croupy cough that had us all in a panic Friday night. Fun times. I've had a bit of a sore throat, but I attributed it to suddenly talking all day and a really last rough last period class on thursday. I took a rapid covid test just in case saturday morning and that was negative, so I think it's just the general crud you get from being around a bunch of random little kids all day.
In other covid related news, the group of moms I was starting to be friends with in town here are getting more and more militantly anti-vax. I had started pulling back on the play dates when the got more and more anti-masky, but one of them has gone off the deep end on the local Facebook group. I guess I'm back to not having friends here. And this is supposed to be a liberal bubble in a sea of red. Turns out the earth mother hippie crowd here believes that walking around barefoot and eating weeds is good enough when it comes to combating a global pandemic. Oh, and lots of vitamin D. At least they're not chugging horse de-wormer but, wow.

Ugh violajack that is so disappointing about the mom friends. Once when I was in your town walking around, a man was practically harassing me telling me that my birth control was going to “poison my eggs”. 🥴

Ugh violajack, I get it. I posted an event in my homeschool group this week, and the only mom who came is very anti-mask. One of her kids attends public school for now so I'm not assuming anti-vax but we all know what assuming does...

Ugh violajack. I grew up in the earth mother hippie world. Literally. The first time my mom came to visit and watched newborn M for the day, she make sure to put her on the ground a lot. It's called "Earthing." M got her first sunburn while Earthing... I've always been very whatevs about that world. Some of it is very nurturing and positive and some of it is benignly stupid lies. But now I'm seeing how non-benign the snake-oil side is. People are literally dying for someone else's power trip (which describes every war ever fought anywhere). I'm seeing a lot of my circle having to make choices between the "natural" community and science and it's just an utterly insane choice to have to make. Most people I know have been happy to dabble in both worlds. Even my mom is starting to see a lot of the people that she used to follow are going anti-vax and she's rethinking so much of what she believes. I'm just utterly grateful that my mother is staying on the science side of things.

I had my first panic attack in some time last night (maybe a year?). Sometimes I’m really worried that I am just not cut out for this farm life. But mh and the kids love it so much. But it is just soooo hard for me and my anxiety and my ocd and my germaphobia. And with a pandemic on top and my anxiety and germ issues already on every edge all day every day? It’s too much. It’s just too much. P is home on covid quarantine for a positive covid contact. Did I mention how they don’t have to wear masks, and also their desks are in groups of 5 in a circle facing each other? So they breathe on each other all day every day? Perfect. Absolutely fucking perfect.

School starts next week and I'm debating not sending N to preschool after all. I can't decide. I know she'd love it and she's so excited and ready for "school", and it takes some pressure off of me for planning crafts and other activities (I'm not crafty but my kids are lol). But covid. And other illnesses.
But then again it is only two mornings per week... MH thinks we should send her. I'm struggling with this decision 😑

tj I'm sorry. The school thing is frustrating, I hope P makes it through quarantine with either no symptoms or a very mild case (has she tested positive before? I can't remember). The farm life thing. As someone who has been there, with anxiety (although undiagnosed and untreated, but I manage) it is difficult. I never quite figured it all out, to be honest, which is a part of the reason we aren't in that anymore. I can't speak to the germ part but I know that is a big hurdle for you. I think it is reasonable to set boundaries for yourself and let your husband and kids handle the things that you can't deal with. And that's ok! You don't have to love every part of it, that is ok.

She did test negative this morning. Thankfully she is one of 2 students in her class that actually wears a mask and socially distances when she can. Or maybe we just got lucky. She never tested positive, but she had a 106 fever with cold symptoms eat back in March of 2020, followed by a full body rash. Right after getting off a cruise. So…. To be fair, mh is working very hard to keep me my version of safe and for him to do all the dirty stuff. But as you know, on a farm, the dirt is everywhere and follows everyone. As are the critters.

Hugs tj, that is a lot. I hope you can find a way to feel at peace with the messiness of farm life. Would it help to get away, or to hire a farm hand, so you could have a break from the mental load and anxiety? Or some other way to take the pressure off? Because that really is a lot and I know I can't handle being in that heightened mindset for too long and I just hope you're okay and can get whatever relief you need however you can.

I have one unvaccinated cousin. Everyone else in my pretty big family is vaccinated. And he, being an idiot, has been going to bars and parties all summer. Well, he and his girlfriend, who live with my aunt and uncle, got covid and now my vaccinated aunt has it. My aunt has been regularly visiting my grandma in a care home despite my dad telling her she shouldn't because she lives with an unvaccinated person. And now my grandma has cold symptoms and we're waiting on covid test results for her.

Ugh mintyblueair. So not cool cousin. My county has an outbreak. We now have more cases per capita than any other county in the state. The last outbreak we had was due to an idiot traveling out of state without quarantining when he got back (which was required at the time). The he played hockey with a bunch of other people and hung out and served them all food at a tailgate party. It turned into 150ish cases and shut down our school for a week. A friend is a local ER doc and she just told me that our latest outbreak is hockey related again. And just shut down our neighboring school district. Yay.

Oh and now we have a case at our middle school. 5th grade. I'm sure that some of those kids have siblings at the elementary school. Oh and my ER doc friend said that they just admitted a 30 year old at her hospital. Great...

I like doing that in my car. I once screamed in frustration at an intersection and didn't realize that my rear windows were down. It scared the shit out of the pedestrians.

When I was going through my divorce I would very often get in my vehicle alone and drive around screaming and yelling. I'm sure I looked like a crazy person but I was during that time.
