Man, I'm sorry milano. My mom is in denial that Trump lost. I only found out last week bc my brother texted me. She never brings up politics with me. She's one of the most distrusting ppl I know so it baffles me that she trusts 45!

That's so tough milano I don't know what my FIL (who def voted for Trump) thinks of him at this point, either, but I kinda don't want to know. He'd prob have some "yeah, but..." nonsense that he'd spew. Why are people so hard-pressed on Party lines that they can't think like a decent human being and admit that he did something (lots of things) inexcusable??

M's school district has decided to go virtual on Inauguration Day in case there is violence (we're in the state capital and all the schools are within a mile of the capitol building). The idea of violence in Vermont seems absurd. But there was a rally here last Wednesday and plans for more on the 17th and the 20th (along with the nation). Most conservative rallies don't generate a lot of action here, but there are a lot of guns here.

My mom just sent me a couple of horrifying pro-Trump videos and I called her out on it and just feel sick. I didn't even watch the videos, I made my sister check them out and give me a report on them but they were apparently as bad as I imagined. Democrats are evil and the country is going to shut down, blah blah. So they still support 45 even after last week's events. I feel sick and don't know what to do. I told her my thoughts and said if they still supported him after all that has gone on then I have to re-evaluate what our relationship is going to look like moving forward, if we have one at all. I have the shakes and that hot lava feeling in my stomach and could just throw up. WTF. How do I share genes with these people? I completely understand these feelings. My parents definitely voted for him...but we did not discuss it. I don't know their feelings on these recent events because we do not discuss. I've felt really saddened by so many people over that fucking guy.

MH grew up with a lot of animosity in his extended family due to stupid stuff, not even politics, and he missed out on a lot of time with his grandparents because of it (not the same situation though). He has been very forgiving up until now because he doesn't want our kids to miss out on time with their grandparents and other extended family. But even he today is like "this changes things significantly". So i don't know. I just sent my mom some links of my own since she is always sending me shit without me asking for it, written by evangelicals so maybe she will read and consider it. I don't know.

I don’t really know what say. I’m sorry that so many of you are facing hard decisions about relationships with your parents. My dad has openly expressed his support of Trump in the past and things frequently get heated between us. It’s definitely influenced our relationship and how we allow my parents into our life.
A lot of the same ideologies are surfacing throughout Canada and it’s a very real fear that an election will be called this year and we’ll be governed by a far-right extremist.

I feel better knowing I'm not the only one with parents that voted for Trump.
I blame Facebook for most of this mess. They are definately part of the "you really need to check your source of information" group.
The things they repost and share just make me twitch.

Our county announced that school will be remote for the rest of the school year. M is actually at a charter, but they usually stay consistent with what the county does. Ugh. I don’t understand a county making such a long term decision when things can change a lot in a short time. And spring weather can be a game changer if they can get kids outside. That sucks- I’m sorry.

My district is going fully remote for 2 weeks starting today because our town had a big spike (originating in a bar- thanks, adults.) We were hybrid all year until today. We’re required to teach remotely from our classrooms, so they’re letting us bring our own kids with us to do their remote school from our classroom. My high school kids thought it was hilarious that H kept zoom-bombing us.

My body and mind feel so weary. I haven't been drinking alcohol, I started fasting again last week, eating healthier, started exercising yesterday (just 1 day, I know). But I wake up every morning feeling exhausted, my head hurts, and I just feel miserable. I feel like I need a week away at a restorative sleep retreat, where I literally just eat and sleep.

Moving is exhausting. Sometimes I think mental exhaustion takes more of a toll than physical.

I was supposed to be able to go get vaccinated today. Drove 30 mins there and they ran out 5 minutes before I arrived. I’m glad enough people are being vaccinated that they ran out but I wish I had t wasted so much time driving!

I hit the pandemic wall today. My head is spinning with all of the policy changes at work and new stay at home orders. I’m exhausted.

My very high risk parents won’t stop eating in restaurants. I’ve been begging them for months to get takeout instead. “Oh it’s ok- we usually do.” I feel helpless. I’m trying to keep them safe and they just get mad. I would love to see them more (now that school is remote I feel better about us not giving it to them) but now I don’t feel comfortable letting them around the kids.

Today was supposed to be a lovely day home alone without even work (internet out so I took the day off).
Instead our water was also off so I couldn’t shower or clean up the kitchen.
So I met my mom to go for a walk.
10 mins into that I get an emergency alert of power loss and small fire at Ms school and everyone should be picked up immediately. It assured all kids were fine. Which was true.
Sat in traffic and car line for 30 mins to get kid.
Reschedule after school playground meetup for as soon as we could get kids lunch if needed (it was noonish so no idea if they had lunch).
Verizon guy texts and says he can actually come right at playground time. Ok.
So we do that. Go to playground late. I remember I did have one meeting I needed to listen to today so I sit in my car and do that.
Then I get P.
And go home to a messy kitchen anyway.
But really. All I could think about is the panic parents must feel trying to get to their kids in a real emergency at school. I knew they were safe. And even then sitting in not moving traffic knowing there had been a fire but realizing the delay was the school not having the best emergency procedures when there’s no phones or electricity and were checking each kid off a list. And this is only a half full school bc covid. I dunno guys. I also feel like I need to update my emergency contacts cuz they are my parents but sending them to a crowded school yard to find M isn’t quite the right choice these days.
Anyway. Had a drink and some ice Cream. Sorry for the novel.

I often think about trying to pick up kids in an emergency and it makes me shaky. When the kids are older we can have designated meeting places and things like that. But right now the kids are in different places. Which kid would we pick up first? Or DH gets one and I get the other, but if we can't communicate? There is a large dam that looms over our city and would totally wipe out the city if it were to break. C's DC is precisely 5 minutes down river. I don't know if the could empty out and head uphill fast enough if there were a warning. Our elementary school is a little farther away and might be far enough uphill to avoid the worst of it. The dam is a huge earthen dam with lots of safeguards, so the chance of it breaking is practically zero. But it's enough that the town has an evacuation plan (for the lay person the evac plan is "go uphill"). Even if we all managed to get to a safe place, the terror of bringing the whole family back into one place would be staggering.

I had a breakdown yesterday where I was cursing in front of my kids. I'm still pissed this morning at the supposedly innocent text that triggered it. If a SAHM tells you 3 days ago she is jealous of your "freedom" as a single parent, don't send her pics of your romantic kid free weekend getaway DURING A LOCKDOWN. I know I sound like the bitch because my friend didn't choose to be single but c'mon, read the room!

... Is it common for an in-ear thermometer reading to be significantly higher than forehead and oral readings? We have a thermometer that does ear and forehead readings, and the ears are always teetering on, or at, fever temps, even when forehead and oral readings are in the normal range (and everyone feels not sick). What's the deal??

That’s so odd Bc my in-ear temp usually runs 96.8. I figured it read low.
IMO at-home thermometers mean almost nothing.
