I’m holding back some activities too, for now they seam more than content with their usual stuff & the home school. I got some new books, flower pots to decorate, new paint, baking supplies & a micro veggie garden laying around for when times get desperate. No word from school yet, I guess since it’s kinder they don’t expect much? Our stuff (aside from the books) feels very enrichment-based. Things to supplement the curriculum rather than move them forward. I’m sure it’s different with older grades.

The office was so weird. We doing shifts to man the phone lines, but I’ve only gotten calls from colleagues today... apparently people call others for information and advice🤷🏼♀️.

oh shit cagoldi. The mail service is something no one has mentioned at all, but they are in constant contact with people. That's so scary for everyone.

Just shows how fucking brainless it is to keep asking people if they’ve had contact with anyone who tested positive. How would anyone test positive if they aren’t getting access to tests?

Happy St. Paddy’s day! The girls and I spent time inside this morning. We watched “Luck of The Irish” on Disney plus. The girls weren’t nearly as into it as I was. Right now it’s quiet time and then we will go outside to play and get some fresh air. cagoldi that’s no good. I guess that’s why the cdc says you’re supposed to self quarantine if you think you have it.

Which I get, but if work is saying you can’t get paid without a doctor’s note, and nobody can go in and get a test to obtain a note, people are going to show up at work while they’re sick. Also, the friend that just tested positive was asymptomatic.

Also, the friend that just tested positive was asymptomatic. That's a huge problem with it. Some places still don't have good access to testing. Most people can't not work for 2 weeks because of mild/no symptoms.

Oh, it gets better.
Tim just got off the phone with Kaiser after being on hold and passed around several hours, and they don’t want to test him, either. Never mind the fact that he was driving the guy who was a confirmed positive to and from work.

We will never get control of this without more testing, clear restrictions, and competent guidance from the leaders of our country.

Well painting the doors isn’t as quick of a job I thought it would be. It was nice to zone out while working away though.
M is doing some workbooks right now. MH is helping him and I don’t think M likes his help very much. 😂
Our teacher sent us a video of her addressing the kids and reading a St. Patrick’s day themed book, so I’ll do that with him later. I think I need to make contact with his friends parents to see if he can FaceTime them throughout the week, too. We’ll see.

lahdeedah, The neighbors’ kids and my kids have been sending each other videos since Saturday. This morning, one neighbor’s 4 year old twins said they were statues and stood in the frame for 15 seconds. Kids are funny!

Talked to a friend who has sxs and was exposed to someone who is waiting for results. Couldn't get tested. In Washington state. Miles from the epicenter. Our work hospital said they don't have any kits and to follow up with her private insurance. Kaiser is her insurance and they said they don't have tests and she could go to a town 45 minutes away. So she gave up the scavenger hunt and went home. And notice the pattern of sending a suspected infected person to 3 different towns.

It's such a fucked up catch-22 because I know places like my work won't do anything major until someone tests positive, but no one will test positive if no one is tested. We have a meeting this afternoon and the only reason I will attend is because I want to hear from my boss if he is advocating for WFH for us. I will keep my distance as best I can. But just being here today shows how clueless people are. As I was putting my lunch in the fridge my coworker comes up behind me and is right in my face as she's talking about how scary this is. Another coworker touched someone's food as they removed their lunch from the microwave. This kind of bx will spread it which is why everyone should stay home and marinate in their own germs.

RI has only 23 cases so far but the governor has said it’s because we don’t have enough tests and there are likely many more. We have the ability and workforce to perform them she said but the tests the feds have promised have not come. She’s been pretty awesome about this trying to get ahead of it. She shut down restaurants and bars, the malls, schools and daycares pretty quickly in the hopes of controlling it a bit here. She also asked us all to hunker down and specified that this isn’t time for a drink with friends or play dates. She said we should only be leaving our homes to go grocery shopping, go to work, or for essential appointments or needs. Our town seems to be complying since it looks like a ghost town.
However, I crossed over into Massachusetts today trying to find some ergonomic solutions for my new workspace as my back is dying. They were given similar restrictions but I see people at Pier One, furniture stores, even the nail salons. It’s pretty ridiculous. It needs to be declared and enforced from the top or it’s just going to keep spreading.
Personally I reached my tipping point today. This is going to sound extremely petty and privileged, which it is. Every other Tuesday is my favorite day because my house gets cleaned. I probably would have had her still come but my parents use her too and canceled while still paying her so I look like a jerk if I don’t do the same. It’s the most responsible choice but now it’s just one more thing to add to this very full plate.

I don’t think you sound like a jerk, wedding. Working full-time while trying to educate your child and stay sane during this nightmare is more than anyone should be expected to do.

The governor of KS just closed schools for the rest of the school year. I really hope the teachers send out some kind of work to help keep her occupied.

Hi!!! I’m currently WFH for the next 2 weeks. Work changed their mind and decided only absolute necessary groups were to be on property. Which stinks because we had a ton of things we were hoping to do but they require us to be on property.
As of right now C is still working as usual. I’m hoping to get organized tomorrow to figuring out how to work from home and teach L and give E her attention she needs/wants

I honestly think this will happen across the board. I just wonder how they will evaluate benchmarks for advancing students next year? I know we were told at parent teacher conferences that they had to reach certain goals to be able to move to first grade. How will this happen now? Will they just advance most students and have to amend lesson plans to cover or evaluate whatever was missed this year? From an educator’s standpoint (outside looking in) I am just like ETA: I know I’m thinking way ahead here, but it’s been in my head.

We went to school today and it was emotional. I know that it'd be hard but walking thorough a school that smells like a hospital with empty hallways that is normally full of happy kids was very, very tough. We were the only ones that were there at the time so we got to chat with the teacher, who broke down, B was crying before we even got into the class, which then made me tear up. She said that she wishes she could just have all her kids back and spend the days with them.
Blah. This is tough.

wow, mwhip . Yeesh. lahdeedah I had the same thought about grades and how students will move up. I think since basically everyone is in the same predicament early next fall would just be partly review? eta: FL gov. said for FL, end-of-year testing will be cancelled (which is typically what is required for students to progress) and parents will have the option of having their child repeat a grade next year. Virtual learning will begin after spring break. They're still working out how grades will be calculated, etc. Unrelated...Today is the eleventh anniversary of our first date Normally we go out for pizza (since that it what we did then) so tonight we are ordering in.

I know, I feel the same way. Not selfish at all. I ordered B's yearbook today and I feel like the spring will just be empty pages, ha. Our last day here in VA is June 12, I think? Schools down home get out the last week of May. Our governor there just called for school to be out thru April 15, at the earliest.

This will make me so sad if ours close for the year. N absolutely loves her teacher and school in general. It would be so hard for her to have it end without any goodbyes, especially since she hasn’t seen her teacher since March 4th when none of this was on our radar.

Ours is only closed for two weeks but I have a feeling we won’t be back until Mat since the CDC recommended 8 weeks.
