Ugh, cagoldi I'm so sorry. My symptoms have been weird and changing about every 1.5 days. I had a really bad cough Tuesday in which I think I pulled a muscle, but it's thankfully not as persistent today. My clinic changed their standard memo basically saying to stay home if you think you have Covid-19 so I went in today. At first it seemed like they had their shit together and testing plan in place. But I was routed first to Urgent Care and then to Primary Care. I waited over an hour (you'd think they'd want to swab people and get them out of there) and then was told since I don't currently have a fever I don't meet criteria and won't be tested. I said this means I'd be returning to work and quit self-quarantining. The doctor urged me to for a few more days. I don't have an endless stock of sick leave. Since people can have it without any sxs I don't know why they didn't test me. It's hit my city. So I'm frustrated but don't feel I have other options at this point. Man this is nuts. What other symptoms have you had? Are the girls and yh okay?

::knocks on wood::
I am very satisfied with the way my govt, local, provincial and feds are dealing with this. They have news conferences twice a day, listing any and all new cases with facts. Have a plan for assessment centres if the need arises, have placed most testing on the back burner to deal with these tests, the conference said yesterday that they did 1000 tests in 2 days in the province alone. The Feds have a plan to ensure that people are kept safe AND can be paid for it, have waived the 1 week waiting period for EI. My work is being super responsible about it and telling anyone who has traveled to stay home, and if you're sick stay home.
Now it's just up to the people to listen and do as you're told. No one but the experts are experts on this, Do.What.You.Are.Told.

NOW, you really want to get into it less than 24 hours after that incompetent fool stammered through a speech in which he contradicted himself, and nobody here can get tested so we are assured of more community transmission, and even IF we could get tested people wouldn’t because they know the resulting medical bills could bankrupt their family?

It changed to bad cough and just yesterday started having some sniffling and sneezing. Fatigue and lack of appetite have been constant. I just don't want to pass it on to others if it is Covid-19 so it would give me peace of mind to be tested. My boss said as a precaution at work they're requiring doctor's notes saying sxs have resolved. So I'll have to see if my doctor can email me something Monday.

I love it when people try to argue against universal health coverage and claim it's horrible in Canada/Europe, or point put problems with Medicaid. Um, have you ever had private insurance? Because it's fraught with issues. Whenever I really think of how stupid it is to have healthcare tied to jobs I shake my head.

My coworker has an ill friend who was in New Rochelle when their outbreak first happened - they are, or were, the biggest hotspot in the damn country. She's back in CT and Yale/New Haven won't test her because they are saving their 2 - yes, TWO - tests for "seriously ill" people, whatever that means. This is insanity.

Sorry, inthekitty. It’s such an unbelievably mismanaged disaster. When they sent me home from the hospital and were like, it’s a virus, but we don’t know what, here’s some Augmentin, I almost lost my mind. Augmentin, for a virus! And I asked the nurse why would I have diarrhea and nausea for “just some respiratory virus?” Blank stare. Apparently, the county’s public health nurse is expected to call me sometime today to let me know if they want me to go somewhere for testing. I would say I’m not holding my breath, but considering I’m getting winded just walking upstairs...

Because it's fraught with issues. Whenever I really think of how stupid it is to have healthcare tied to jobs I shake my head. Most people who like or love their private health insurance are lucky enough to have not had to use it enough to know exactly what’s not to love. And problems with Medicaid and Medicare =/= problems with universal health coverage, since private companies are awarded contracts to manage those programs. It’s *almost* as if our system creates a perverse incentive to maximize profits and minimize spending on patient care.

Idiots. Now is not the time to natter about 'problems', and not one person will say that our system is perfect. The universal system takes the business out of the right to healthcare, and it's times like this that it shows that it is indeed a positive. ETA: reason 7598712564 I'm not on FB

And for the record, I heard a lot about Covid-19 testing being free in our state and KP sent an email saying testing would be free. I was charged a $25 copay today. I can afford that but what about those who can't? It's complete BS.

They need to produce & distribute more tests ASAP.

Oh, while we’re at it, I just got notified yesterday that the provider I finally found who was willing to provide the Floortime therapy for X can’t get a clear answer as to whether or not services would be covered, so they can’t proceed.
Back to the drawing board. As far as I can tell, I have called every single therapy provider in LA and OC.
And that was the only one who had an opening.
Now I need to raise hell with our “special needs concierge.”
Also, therapies are recommended for 20 hours/week. Which would be five sessions/week for four hours each. $55 copay per visit. So IF I can find a provider who our insurer will agree to pay, I am still looking at $1,100/month until we meet our deductible. Not including any of his other services, of course.
I have a friend with a teen who is on the spectrum and he has very severe delays. He once told me the surest way to go bankrupt is to have a child with SN. Definitely starting to see what he means.

My parents are going to be selling their house very soon. And word of mouth has already gotten out. They have 2 different people looking to buy it already and they still haven't gotten it appraised yet. One of the couples is an 80 year old couple with a CASH offer! So they are hoping that they can come to an agreement on price and it would make the whole process sooo much easier. They are hoping to get the appraisal next week. That's awesome! Fingers crossed it pans out. Are your parents looking to up/downsize and stay in same area, or somewhere new? The house we're looking at, the family has 5 children (and FTR, this house is pristine...I'm convinced the mom is Superwoman) so I'm hopeful they would also like to avoid the showing process. They gave our realtor the price they will list at and it's very fair so we plan to go in with full price offer assuming everything goes ok next week. So they are planning to RV full time for a year or so. They want to do it now while they are in decent shape still and can handle it and have more adventures. Then they will be buying a villa probably. They like the idea of not having to worry about lawn care, ect. So they want someplace that it is included. That way when they want to pick up and go on a month long trip down the road they don't have to make arrangements for that stuff. My mom is feeling guilty a little about this adventure for a few reasons. 1. She helps my sister out so much with her 4 kids that she feels bad that my sister is so stressed trying to find other help. and 2. She feels bad about me not having a place to stay when we are up there for dr appts.. Lol. I assured her I would be fine staying at my aunts or my sisters instead. I told her they need to get out and enjoy their retirement and quit worrying about everything else!

Does CA have some kind of medicare waiver program? MO has one that I have been looking in to. There is apparently a long wait list because they will only issue so many at a time. But if I understand it right...It could make Sierra eligible for to receive medicare even though we don't meet the income requirements (we make too much over their threshold). And if/when she would be approved, our private insurance will be the primary payer and then medicare will pick up a lot of the other costs so it cuts down on your OOP. Plus, like in our case...it would have paid for a communication device for S....whereas our insurance was only going to cover $1200. So if we had had it then....our private ins would have paid the $1200 then medicare would have paid the rest ($2800). So I am currently jumping through the hoops to try to get approved for the waiver...or get on the waiting list so we can eventually get it.

Good for them lfig , that sounds like a great plan. I agree with you...they've worked hard and as we all know, there are no guarantees in life so best to do things while you can. this past fall, there was a retired couple who was featured several times on College Game Day...they made it their goal to follow the Game Day crew around to all the various colleges they stopped at for football weekends. They were big football fans, had an RV and decided it was a 'bucket list' type thing to see all these great college towns and games. Sounded like fun to me!

Well this has been a comical day in the world of my gov't email....
Someone sent out a thing to "all employees" (that would be all employees in my entire agency throughout the US, not just my park) asking if they want any jr ranger books....then everyone is replying ALL!! GAH!! It is maddening but also has gotten entertaining. It started out with "please remove me from this list" from MULTIPLE MULTIPLE people. Then it went on to MANY MANY people saying "QUIT REPLYING ALL", then it moved on to "Corona Virus is surely going to kill us all given the IQ being displayed here", then people giving step by step instructions on how to reply in an email without using reply all .... the list goes on and on. We are up well over 178!! emails now of this nonsense! And the comedians are trying to keep it going with funny memes. But it's really getting ridiculous. And there is no way out of this nonsense.

Haven’t traveled to China or Italy, so no testing needed according to public health nurse.
No consideration for underlying conditions, only likelihood of exposure.
