It looks like Tim Kaine's war powers resolution is going to squeak out passage in the Senate tomorrow

I am laughing. Sorry Doug-o. Georgia race devolves into nasty GOP fight amid fears it could cost Senate majority: "The National Republican Senatorial Committee is accusing Collins of running against Sen. Kelly Loeffler, a Republican incumbent appointed by the governor, out of his own 'selfish' interests...the Collins campaign is now accusing the National Republican Senatorial Committee of playing hardball by seeking to blackball its vendors, alleging the organization of 'threatening' its vendors in a bid to choke off assistance to his campaign. The campaign would not specify which vendors had been threatened." "Collins is everything Georgians hate about Washington," said Kevin McLaughlin, the executive director of the NRSC. "He is a swamp creature that claims to be conservative." www.cnn.com/2020/02/12/politics/georgia-senate-gop-race/index.html

Early confession. Last February we moved to a different city in metro ATL and I was pretty sure we moved outside of my last district, which meant I was no longer under Lucy McBath.
And then she sent me a postcard so I finally looked up my district - and yeah, we're definitely still in hers. I am both celebrating and laughing at myself for making an assumption and being sad about not being with Lucy when we totally still are.

45 withdrew a Treasury Nomination of the person who was the US Atty who oversaw the Stone prosecution.
AND congratulated Barr for 'taking charge' of the case.

Well, maybe don't like us and West Germany, but I bet some governments are slapping themselves for not thinking of the same thing, and most other countries are thinking, duh, of course that's a move any intelligence agency would, and should, make. Now, I do support any actions against Huawei. Because of course they're doing the same thing, and I don't blame them for trying.

Do we know how likely it is for this to pass? While I want to stay in my government job either way, I was highly relying on this program since I have a fuck ton of student loans from law school.

Quoting myself because I read the article again and it says it only impacts future borrowers, not those currently paying off loans, so does that mean the program is grandfathered?

If I recall they'd have to violate the terms of your promissory note if they cancelled it for existing loans. So I don't think that is typically expected. However, I graduated in 2009 and I've yet to have any friends from school get their application for forgiveness approved yet.

And yes, I know there are definitely a lot of issues with the program as it stands, so I also know its not 100% guaranteed. I have, however, been diligently re-certifying my loan payments with them twice a year because I have heard some horror stories about it not going through because people didn't keep up on it. Of course, I think it is horseshit to eliminate the program at all, but for my own selfish reason I am relieved that it might not affect my current program.

I'm not in public interest now but even I only do ok because I have IBR. But Of course with 3 kids and a 1 income house that means my payments don't covered interest, so I still need that forgiveness in 15 more years. Iwillhave paid back my loan plus plenty more and will like have 600k "forgiven". That will be a fun tax bill.

Also because student debt is my obsession- this year a study showed that students loans are blooming because of compound interest and new originations have Slowed. That means existing loans getting bigger instead of many more new loans are causing the overall growth in student debt.
