I am really enjoying living in a little Democracy laboratory It's amazing! Even my husband, who normally doesn't follow the GA sessions, has been watching for updates. Almost every day he comes home from work saying "did you see what they passed today?". He used to hate discussing politics and basically ignored it. But this session has really energized him. I love it!

When they chose Eileen to be Speaker I knew it was about to get wild. Would have loved to see Saslaw step aside in favor of a younger leader but he's gonna Saslaw. I also have a huge Adam Ebbin shaped spot in my heart.

Guuyyyyssss I'm also putting off answering a message from a friend in a swing state talking about how they don't care about politics because I can't. I can't right now. I need to hibernate. You can definitely hibernate. Just think of this board as your cave and hang here.
I am always surprised at the language and views people share on Facebook. Our town has different groups and it's amazing to see who has no concern for the need to be somewhat considerate of other views.

A number in the coronavirus coverage I'm not seeing advertised... as of yesterday, on top of the 40k cases of confirmed virus patients, there are almost 200k under observation/awaiting testing. That number is yikes. I am also really feeling for the crew of the Diamond Princess docked in Japan. 10 of the crew have been confirmed to have the virus, which included kitchen staff and servers. None of the crew is being kept in isolation like the passengers. That is going to get bad soon.

There was an article on the guardian that a respected public health epidemiologist said that without checks the virus could infect 60-80% of the world. Now also many people are asymptomatic but that's part of the problem. The next couple weeks will likely show how bad this might get. www.theguardian.com/world/2020/feb/11/coronavirus-expert-warns-infection-could-reach-60-of-worlds-population

I'm wondering if this will end up with a noticeable downward bump in CO2 emissions, even if it isn't sustainable long term. ETA found a story in axios from the other day that says it might www.axios.com/coronavirus-china-energy-sector-impact-f89cd7b8-6605-470f-8338-70af44e4aaf1.html

My new favorite podcast is This Podcast Will Kill You, it’s about diseases and their history and epidemiology. Super fascinating. Their latest episode is all about coronaviruses. I really appreciated getting some context about the virus in general, and then they had experts on to answer questions about the current outbreak. Of course this was recorded a couple weeks ago, so the infection and death #s are way lower than today. 😫

I need to download this podcast because epidemiology is my JAM!

And Zelinsky has quit:
(As a special assistant US attorney for DC, has not resigned from his US attorney position in Baltimore)

And Zelinsky has quit: (As a special assistant US attorney for DC, has not resigned from his US attorney position in Baltimore) Is this in protest of the reduced sentencing?

I don't think his resignation is necessarily nefarious. Stone was probably the last thread of the Spec Con investigations and now he can go home and work. or hes just done with the world burning and is cat pushing shit off a desk yelling fuckthis, fuckthat.

Could be either, elle/ jkjacq. Nobody really knows anything, except that he resigned (but not in Baltimore). IMO, it's the "Fuck it" cat situation.

In uplifting news, this is a great article about how Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union are supporting their daughter during her transition both privately and publicly. The interview with Ellen is so good.
