Coming to share this. Guys, I'm afraid the whole world is going to turn their back on us. At this point, why wouldn't they? Why shouldn't they? We're stuck with 45 for at least another year since the fucking spineless GOP won't do shit because they're either as fucked up as he is or they're cowards scared of his base. China and Russia have been growing their own powers and spheres of influence. If we've proven to not be trustworthy, which I think we can all agree, 45 has done so, then why not turn away from us to new partners? I don't like it, but I also can't blame anyone for walking away. ETA: That was me agreeing with you, iruntodrink. I just went off and it wasn't directed at you.

I was watching off-the-grid builders making houses in Alaska today thinking that might not be a bad investment.
I need to shut down for the day. Retail therapy or something.

I’m trying to ignore the crazy Cheeto and am losing myself in the beauty of the #IranianCultureSites trend. Brb. Getting weepy.

A moment of levity. Tommy Vietor had some Pompeo confusion.

Our allies are ticked off, but they aren't going to abandon us. Basically I would expect milquetoast "rebuttals" from some western leaders but nobody is going to flat out defy Trump.

I agree they won't outright abandon, but they will be harder pressed to work cooperatively in many scenarios. Also I think this kind of action is going to help encourage the EU to create a standing army. EU countries do keep talking about how they cannot rely on the US for security alone. Trump unilaterally doing something like this enforces that need.

I do think we have to be cognizant of the fact that many Britons are still angry (rightfully so, IMO) that the US dragged the UK into Iraq (Blair's obsequiousness being a separate discussion)

According to Reuters Iran is offering an $80 ion bounty for Trump's head. They also report the head of Iran says death to America for Trump and and not the American nation. I say we give him up and split the 80 mil. Anyone with me?

H was reading an article today that said this whole mess could have been avoided if Pelosi had done something about AUMF. I saw red. Maybe if McConnell would actually do his damn job, we could have avoided this shit.

honeylemon what fortunate timing for him. Do you think you’ll stay where you are currently when he retires? If I remember you have mixed feelings about it. We are definitely moving ASAP. It’s like gun toting, conservative, evangelical, military, MAGA heaven here. Not uncommon near military bases of course. He had two interviews with a company back where we were before here and it’s looking like he’s going to get it. I can’t wait to be back. Yes it’s SC but at least there I have my very large bubble of like minded friends. That would be so great! Everything crossed that works for you all!

How would we react if someone threatened the Washington monument or St Patrick's Cathedral? And threatening cultural sites doesn't just piss off Iranians in Iran. The majority are Muslim sites and that will piss off Muslims EVERYWHERE.

Intentionally targeting civilian, cultural/heritage, and/or religious sites is a whole new level of scum. blurnette989, I agree. It would be devastating to individuals far beyond Iran. I mean, do you remember the global reaction to the fire at Notre Dame? And that was an accident. If someone had intentionally destroyed it...
