It is tangential, but has anyone been following the implosion of the Romance Writers of America? It’s started making mainstream news and is a complete mess. My goodness. What a shitshow. Historical romance is my palate cleanser (lol) between heavier reading. I’m pleased with where my favorite authors appeared in all of that.

Yes! It could have been so good, but it was lacking coherence.
This bums me out! I loved the first one but haven't gotten to the other two. Should I just not bother? Eh, I don't regret reading them. They're pretty easy reads if you don't think about them too much. Otherwise I just end up with a lot of unanswered questions so don't delve too deep past the surface.

Just requested What's a Girl Worth? From the library. Add me to the I can't stand Rachel Hollis club. I read Girl Wash Your Face and thought it was complete fluff. I'm in her target demographic and I know a lot of people who like her but she's so annoying and is very "first world problems." Major eye roll. I loved What is a Girl Worth. I mean obviously not the reason behind it, but I thought it was very well done. Fair warning though- she does talk about her religion but not in a preachy way, just because it's a big part of her life. It feels very honest in the support her beliefs provided her but also in showing the lack of support her church showed her.

I heard about this but this link told me that Chuck Tingle wrote a book about it and I'm trying to decide if I want to spend the 1.99 to buy it.

Historical romance is my palate cleanser (lol) between heavier reading. I’m pleased with where my favorite authors appeared in all of that. It’s such a mess. I tend more to historical mysteries, but there’s a lot of author overlap with historical romance. I’m very relieved that my favs have come out swinging on the right side. I feel awful for everyone who faced racism from the RWA and the new and unpublished authors that are stuck in the middle of the upheaval.

I'm getting to the end of The Golden Hour and was stopped at a very long light. I totally spaced listening to the story and got some angry honks. Oops! I was far, far away.

hello 2020 I have started the year off with The Boat People and I cannot put it down. I started this last year because my boss said it was amazing, but I wasn’t loving the writing initially. I’ll have to go back and try it again, the topic feels very me.

They incorporate a lot of process and legal details, and I think because I am listening instead of reading the physical book, it’s easier and not as “clunky” (for lack of a better term).

I'm trying out Hollow Kingdom. Anyone read it? It's a disutopian/satire novel where humans die and crows take over the world. A little out of my usual repertoire.

My sister is having a hysterectomy on Friday and is not used to sitting still for one day let alone 6 weeks. She loved to read before she had my nephew 7 years ago so I want send her some books. She always read Jodi Picoult books so I am thinking Elin Hilderbrand. Any other recs?

The one where animals take over the world when humans turn into zombies, written from a crow's perspective? Yeah, I read it. I didn't think it was amazing but it was interesting and I enjoyed it. I normally can't stand birds but it even made birds moderately interesting for me. Dogs play a large role as well if you love dogs...and there's an amazing cat, and basically every animal you can think of. The middle drags but the end was quite satisfying and hopeful.

Yes, that's the one. I'm 3 chapters in.

I just finished two books so far for this year. Before She Knew Him - I enjoyed it even though I figured out the big twist very early on. This Is How You Lose the Time War - if this hadn't been only 200 pages I wouldnt have finished it. But since it was short and had such great reviews I powered through. I did not enjoy this one.
Now I'm reading Never Have I Ever and City of Girls which is for book club. I also have The Lost Man and Watching You checked out.

Three of my holds just came available to me in the past two days plus my book club book. I’m going to have to hide from life to read all of these. They are When Breath Becomes Air, The Clockmakers Daughter, Where the Crawdads Sing, and the House on Foster Hill. I’m excited to dig in.
